2.
........not that I don''t remember the three magnificent seasons or the quality of player he brought in.
Yeah, and I bet it really irritates him that he wasn''t the manager that brought in Holt............ and Hoolahan for that matter.
 3.
If the rest of the team are up to the job, creating chances etc, we have strikers that can score - but imo there aren''t many strikers like GH who are such all round good players and so clinical in front of goal. £6 million for a proven goal scorer and as fit as a butcher''s dog? I think we would be foolish to let him go. £6 million doesn''t buy you a lot these days.
I have to say that if Everton have offered £6M for Holt we really should snap their arm off. Holt is getting on now, has only two seasons left on his contract and although he hit the jackpot last season with the goals he scored I just can''t see him being allowed to do that again next season. I do think he will find another season in the premiership physically tougher than last season and I also think that defenders will have "wised up" about him and he''ll find it alot tougher scoring goals for that reason too. So, to my mind, £6M seems pretty attractive.

 5.
having read the story on the front page of the Site.. Iwan Roberts is right, there is no way back for Grant Holt now regardless what some fans may think...Grant could do well to learn from Iwan, a player who in 7 years won the fans over and never once turned his back on the club.... he went out a winner and a champion after the the club decided to get rid of him just 4 goals short of 100.... GRant holt will never reach this with us...Iwan Roberts will remain a hero at Carrow Road.... Grant holt will be yesterdays man... forgotten before long.
Excellent point. Still makes me angry when I recall the shoddy and stupid treatment of Iwan and Malky by Worthless and later on Huckerby by Roeder.
 6.
B*****ks to Lambert and Villa!
Ha ha and hear hear !
 7.
If this is true, and the brum local press seem to think so, then it just shows Lambert''s utter contempt he had for our club and fans. Well rid imo.
"In Lambert we trust"
 8.
He wanted to improve on 12th place having spent £15million (more than any manager I can think of at Norwich) in one season. He has then been offered the same amount of money and some to improve the team. The only thing that is different is the board''s expectations - and that was through his words. He said that would be happy with premier league survival again next year. He wanted more than that looking up the table. But to me surely that''s what you want to hear? That the club will be happy if you manage minimal output but are financially backing you to do as well as you possibly can? At the end of the summer we could have a squad worth between £25-40million. That certainly isn''t a lack of ambition by the board. I think it''s a touch of reality in that they understand this league is one of the most difficult in the world. Staying in it is tough. And that they wanted Lambert to feel comfortable enough to push as hard as he wants but not have the ''will I be sacked next week'' in the back of his mind. However the one thing that jumps out at me more than anything else is his Villa contract. This suggests that the one year rolling contract with us was upon his insistance - which in all honesty is what I believed it to be anyway. It means we shouldn''t be that surprised by it all. And in many ways I am not. Perhaps now we can find a manager that will be content and good for Norwich City. Sadly as thing stand I wonder how many managers are truly content and how many would see Norwich as a stepping stone to greater things? As fans perhaps we should just be happy to see Norwich remain in the prem season after season - getting mid table placings and perhaps trying to sniff around 6th spot? I''m just starting to feel that the prem is a dead end, a place football comes to die. What''s the most we could hope for? 6th place? How hard is that when you look at the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea?
What a perceptive, thoughtful post. One of the most intelligent and objective posts I have read on here. A shame that the conclusion is so depressing but sadly one that is compellingly realistic.
 9.
Here we go again! Why would Lambo have that attitude towards Holt? He wanted to sign him at Colchester but Norwich outbid Colchester. Some of the stuff on this board in the last few days has simply been disgusting. Made up allegations against Lambert and Holt with absolutely no proof all. To top all this I see there are moans about McNally creeping in. Unbelievable. Before anyone gives the excuse that this is peculiar to the Norfolk psyche, be assured it would be no different at other clubs unfortunately . Lets just wait until the events fully unfold.
Bury Yellow, you really should try getting down from your high horse.

Ah, it''s confrontational Morty, boastful Beausy''s batman. Good to see you are still patrolling this MB in your usual tolerant and constructive fashion. Well, Gunn was manager at the time Holt joined the club so that''s a fact. As for my opinion that Lambert was always uncomfortable with Holt not being "his man" based upon God knows how many interviews where Lambert seemed reticent to give Holt unqualified praise after another swashbuckling performance leading the line and scoring the goals that made him the second highest English goal scorer in the Premier league. Time and time again I saw or heard the same reticence whenever the interviewer prompted praise for Holt from Lambert. He always seemed too quick to deflect the point and instead rush into praising the team as whole. Hence, I formed the impression and subsequently the opinion that Lambert was less than unstinting in his praise for Holt and to that extent uncomfortable with the fact that Holt was the man that his predecessor brought in i.e. Praise for Holt inevitably meant recognition to the man who had the balls and the vision to spend the bulk of his transfer budget on Holt, a player who is now valued at £4M
 13.
I don''t really think the club should be ''reacting'' to the press in this fashion... I understand they are probably frustrated but that tweet from Joe sounded very ''playground'' I agree with the majority of what he has said however parading Russell Martin out in front of the press to prove a point is not the answer for me
Excellent observation. I found Ferrari''s tweet condescending Nd patronising. More like kindergarten to me.
 14.
Seem to remember there being lots of interest in the vacancy @ NCFC just before they gave Gunn the job.
And of course he was the one responsible for bringing in Grant Holt, a fact that Lambert (in Lambert we trust) was always uncomfortable with.
 15.
I think the key argument may be based upon whether Lambert actually had this clause which allowed him to talk to other clubs. If he did then the club have committed a clear breach of contract by not allowing him to talk to other clubs. By going back on their word the club would also have breached an implied term of every employment contract which is a duty of trust and confidence between an employer and employee. Lambert could potentially all treat this as what is known as repudiatory (or fundamental) breach of contract. The effect of this that Lambert is allowed to bring the contract to an end himself and treat himself as dismissed. Thus he would technically be a free agent. But surely the board are too clued up to have made such an elementary mistake like that?
Norwich chief executive David McNally yesterday revealed the club were in the process of looking for a new manager, describing the former Carrow boss as being on “gardening leave”. He told Sky Sports News: “We are looking for a new manager, that is likely what we concentrate on in the next few weeks. “We were in a situation where we were approached by another club to speak to Paul Lambert, we didn’t grant them permission and we were very clear we wanted to keep our manager who has been incredibly successful. “When it was indicated by our manager that he would like the opportunity to speak to this particular club the dynamics changed, and then it was about talking to them about compensation, agreeing compensation and sorting out a time frame, and we are still in that process." IMO the Club and it''s legal advisers are far too clued up to get caught out like this. I think the above extract from the article in the Pinkun is revealing. It''s a carefully considered statement and one that I am sure would have been drafted or at least vetted by the Club''s solicitors. It states that Villa''s approach was rejected but when Lambert expressed a desire to talk to Villa the club acceded to his request in accordance with his contract.
 16.
I still think the Lambert and Holt situations are un-related, remember that Lambert didnt start Holt for around a third (?) of our games this season, including late in the season at home to Liverpool. If he didnt think that he was undroppable for Norwich, why would he at Villa??
Fully agree with this assessment.
 17.
Today''s Daily Telegraph are quoting Villa as considering a bid of £3m for Holt - perhaps we can push them higher and with this fee plus compensation for Lambert have a basis for signing a good striker!
I don''t think Holt will be going anywhere with Lambert. My impression has always been that Lambert has been very reserved in the way he has managed Holt and less than fulsomel in his praise for him because Holt was the one player he could not claim the credit for in terms of bringing into the club. As a result I do believe that their relTionship isnpretty cold.
 18.
Holt''s really shot himself in the foot with his tweets earlier, he could be hung out to dry if not careful. If Lambert has promised Holt that he''s going to take him to villa and ''look after'' him, then this clearly is McNally yelling ''Check mate''.
I don''t believe that at all. I always felt that Lambert had a bit of a problem praising Holt because he was the main man that the much ostracized Bryan Gunn brought in.
 19. Well, many of you did but it was inevitable that he would cash in his chips when his value was at its optimum and a bigger club with greater potential came along. I guess you can''t blame him but I have to say that the way he has behaved over the last few weeks and today has left a nasty taste in my mouth. Of course he has done a great job but we have been great for him too. At least I can now feel better about admitting that he got on my nerves with his constant harping on about "this time ______ years ago we were bottom of League 1" and "massive club and massive fans", always being restrained in his praise for Holt, never talking about "we" or "us" but always referring to Norwich and/or the Norwich fans. Small consolation I know because I would of course preferred him to stay !
 20. McNally to announce that he is leaving for Aston Villa ?

 22.

Anyone know of a donation site for the memorial gardens?
Couldn''t agree more. It irritates the hell out of me that these days we are so quick to wring our hands with anguish and take offence either directly or indirectly until the facts come out. From that position the anguish escalates and converts into righteous anger until we have silly posters on here demanding that the perpetrators are hunted down and banned from Norwich for life !

You could have the 4 best defenders in the world but if everyone ahead of them is dross then you still won''t keep a clean sheet. Howson will improve the team overall, meaning we are more likely to get a clean sheet. So whose place does he take? Misguided and irrelevant question. Do you not understand the concepts of squad strength and increased options? I do understand which is why we need strength at the back....what happens if we lose Zak and Ayala or one of them, we do not have any depth at least we do in midfield but I think defence should be the priority.....your statement of depth in squad simply does not ring true in defence and it would in fact seem like you do not understand this concept. As a business man I understand we only have so much money to spend and I would rather see this in defence wouldn’t you? If we need a midfielder it should be a defending midfielder not an attacking one As a vegan paraplegic I understand that too much red meat is bad for you. I don’t think this qualifies me as an expert in player acquisitions. From my limited understanding defending is done as a collective but the purest form is ball retention. Look at Swansealona’s conceded column, especially at home. I don’t think they have a defensive midfielder as such (or one over 5 foot 6). Any player who can help us retain possession will become a valuable member of the squad. I would happily go into more depth regarding ball retention but am very tired having just typed this with my nose.
I expect you could also happily go into more depth regarding anal retention Bill.
 24. Yes, apparently the poor man''s Doherty did play well and to all those Nelson bashers thank goodness we have him in the squad. I didn''t go the match, in fact I rarely manage to get to home games living as I do on the South Coast so Ricardo''s reports are invaluable concise and amusing reflections on home games and "Ricardo''s Report" is always the first and often the only thread I read on a Saturday evening. I must admit that it worries me that we are so slow to get going in matches. Perhaps Lambert tells the players to pretend to be "at the races" for the first half so that the other side mounts attack after attack and blows themselves out at which point we move up a few gears and score our ususal 2 or 3 goals. Masterful strategy, but only if the other side doesn''t score first ! Seriously, I am perplexed. Lady Snooty and I went to both Southampton matches and Yeovil and, without exaggeration, the first half of each match was notable for the seeming lack of desire/motivation amongst our players which, like magic, changed after halftime. This was particularly the case at both Southampton matches but also at Yeovil. The same thing happened today as mentioned in Ricardo''s report and, I read, also against Huddersfield. All very strange and no obvious explanation. I suspect that the team are in fact so confident of winning matches and scoring goals when they wish that they have an arrangement with a Chinese bookmaker in Hong Kong. I imagine that the bookmaker has made so much money laying off the bets that he refers to our team''s two betting ring leaders affectionately as Manager Rambo and Captain Gally Hort.
