  1. Because we can't. If players are not paid in full, they can walk away from the club and their contract and join another club for free. That is how players contracts are drawn up in the football world. The club is protecting its investment in the players. There may well be some big sales made in the summer.
  2. The only way this PL season will finish is if next season doesn't happen at all. That would be more costly that abandoning this season.
  3. Bear in mind clubs have no money coming it at all at the moment other than season tickets DDs and a few sales the the club shops. They could easily be losing £9 million per week at this moment in time.
  4. Let the adverts load fully and generally the problem doesn't occur. Would suggest its a deliberate way of making the adverts be read.
  5. Cannot really compare the spread to 100 years ago as travel between countries was slow in those days. You can be the other side of the world in 24 hours now.
  6. According to the majority of the Press this morning, the Govt plan to get the Country moving again says sports will not be allowed to start until July or August at the earliest. I can't see how you can finish this season then without having a massive negative impact on next season whch would be unlikely to start til Sept or Oct in that case. 'Integrity of football ' which i keep hearing bandied about by those with a financial interest in playing again, is irrelevant in these times.
  7. It is if you do not have any money in the bank or the money in your bank is already put aside for other expenditure and there will be no more money coming into the bank for the foreseeable future.
  8. Simple fact is that the club is protecting the jobs of those lower paid workers by furloughing them, the other option is to make them redundant. No sensible company pays staff for doing nothing and with no idea when these employees might have work again. Its been mentioned many times that only us and Burnley are the only other self funded in the PL, all other clubs have very wealthy owners. And Burnley are the only club initmating that they will have some serious financial problems as a result of this.
  9. @sgncfchas it right as best you can surmise from the information available. 148 non-playing staff x £2500 per month =£370,000 per month assuming all those staff earn at least £2500 per month (which i doubt they do). If you have zero coming in, which is where all football clubs are currently, then its a substantial amount of money to find. The only other option is to make them all redundant which also has cost implications, probably bigger cost implications than that. I don't really have an issue with the club furloughing them as because as i said above the only other option is to make them redundant which will also cost the club and the Govt money in the short term. What i do have an issue with, and its a football-wide issue, is that the huge sums of money come in one end and are immediatley spent, mainly on player wages and transfer fees. Football clubs as a whole do not carry any sort of reserves, despite the huge sums coming in. How many on here were moaning a few weeks ago that we had not spent enough on new players?? How stupid that would have looked now!
  10. There is a fair to middling chance that there maybe no crowds at football matches til next year (2021) according to a few reports i have read.
  11. As it stands the furlough system is not even up and running yet so no one has been able to put in a claim for anything.
  12. Schools will go back at the beginning of June is my estimate and then there will be a phased return to work but I cant see football being allowed to be played until August.
  13. I doubt football will be played again until August at the earliest. That makes finishing the season nonsensical unless they null and void the whole of next season. That would incur far bigger losses for everyone.
  14. The reality is that it's quite possible that if the club does lose £15 million then it would technically be insolvent based on last years accounts (from memory). That means running out of cash. It's all too easy to criticise those in charge when its not you making the difficult decisions.
  15. I would think that next season not happening at all would be catastrophic for the whole of football including the likes of us, Liverpool, Man City etc, A whole season with no money makes no sense just to finish this season and get a third of a season's money.
  16. Government are using football and the top players to deflect from the f*ck up they have created. How about we point the finger at tax dodging companies and individuals who are the ones really responsible for the fact the NHS has been starved of cash and equipment and staff for the last ten years.
  17. Just to add to this, i live in the Midlands and i know a number of the Wolves players (most Portuguese) are back in Portugal and have been since before the lockdown. At what point will they be able to travel again? I beleive that Farke is or was back in Germany too. They all have family to consider. Its a certainty that any travel across borders once lockdwon is relaxed, will require some sort of health certificate, possibly for a year or two. I cannot see football being allowed to bypass any new travel restrictions in place.
  18. There will come a point when finishing this season actually costs the game more money than cancelling it, as it will impact on next season. Its impossible to finish one season and go straight into the next as drawing up new contracts for many things, organising dates for all next season matches ( which must be a huge job in itself as there are others outside football to consider in that) all have to be done. How long are they prepared to consider going past 30 June in finishing the season? I would suggest that is the common sense cut off point in every respect.
  19. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8159281/Premier-League-clubs-want-season-CANCELLED.html ALL clubs have to plan for next season one way or another. None can finish playing one and then start another.
  20. Realistically i cannot see football being important enough to be played again until September/October time.
  21. I see Leeds have agreed a deferral on players wages. Sounds like financially they are balanced right on the edge of the precipice.
  22. The furloughed salaries to be repaid by the Government is up to a maximum of £2,500 per month per person. It would be political suicide for any Govt to promise to cover footballers high wages whilst many others are limited to the basic wage pacakage offered to all other companies. Playing just half the matches next season whilst completing this season means they would lose half of next season's money but still receiving the 25% of outstanding monies for completing this season. That makes no financial sense at all. A football club is like any other business, if the cannot pay their players wages, they will either have to make them redundant or come to some agreement about only paying percentage of their salary. Its football's moment to put its finances back in order and back in the real world.
  23. There will be a significant wealth tax have to be applied the world over to pay for the damage this pandemic has done if it goes on for many months. As much as we all love our football, in the scheme of things right now, it's not very important.
  24. I wonder if Sky (and all the other TV companies around the world) and thus the PL will say to teams you have only played 29 of 38 games so you will only get 29/38 of the money for this season? That will make our transfer policy look like genius and i bet there are a number of PL clubs currently concerned that may happen (which is why we hear this insistence of finishing the season) and financial fall out as a result.
  25. I believe PL rules state that if there are no matches for 60 days then the season is null and void. I suspect that might well happen now. I can't see how they can delay the end of season til the summer, as the new season would start as soon as this one ends. It would be impossible to plan for that.
