whatever happened to chants?

Recommended Posts

Ive noticed a severe decline in originality of chants over the past decade. Why does every ground in the country feel the need to simply rip off songs from the stretford end or the kop??Also what the hell has happened to Carrow Road? We used to have a song for pretty much every player and these days next to nothing. Is it simply that there is so much football on tv that people just feel the need to copy what they hear from the "big 4" ?

Well, I guess the serious answer to this is that the massive turnover of players we''ve had in the last 4-5 years has meant that few have been around long enough to warrant their own song or chant.

Those that have, like Drury or Doc, just don''t seem to have inspired chants so it''s a double whammy.

Fairly dire football at Carrow Road and a general feeling of disconnection while things have been going wrong have meant that players haven''t felt like they are ''ours'' so that''s not going to help either.

Perhaps the youth players and people like Holt and Lappin giving it their all will make us sing their names this season.

Thats right!

To be honest the Barclay and the snake pit still create a good atmosphere but look at what we''ve been watching since promotion to the Premiership - 2 relegations and a gradual but sure dismal decline - Obviously the atmosphere is going to be effected by the mainly dross games we''ve been watching!

Well 6088m canary, there have actually been plenty of suggestions for plenty of our players.

The best one being for Maric, but he doesn''t play!! (Love and Marriage, Frank Sinatra)

If there were perhaps a section on the message boards for people to use simply for this subject, we wouldn''t have people asking about the same scenario of limited original songs.

i no its not a song about a player but i always get annoyed when threads like this appear and we have the most original song in the football world but people want to get rid of it.

the singing at gillingham was strange.

2 guys constantly trying to start ''ye army'' with a really steady pace, followed by a few others joining in and speeding it up so quickly that it petered out before even getting going.

whatever happened to plain old simple, ''come on city, come on city''. easy to sing and really gets behind the team.
