Cody McDonald .. Who!?

Their have been links within the last few days that we have been interested in signing cody mcdonald from Dartford, however, they dismiss any offer for the Ryman premier top goalscorer. http://forums.cpfc.org/showthread.php?t=180071 I know that he has been almost having a trial period with us, a gunn believes that we will hear confirmation on his posistion within the next 24 hours. Likely he''ll be joining us you think then?

Yes there was speculation that clubs looking at him were Charlton, Huddersfield, Millwall and Peterborough, but I don''t think I have seen him linked directly with NCFC on any of the rumour and gossip websites I visit daily.

no worries, I have a good feeling that we could be signing him on a perminant deal. And due to the size of the club, such as dartford. The fee wouldn''t be large, a possible bargin?

Hmmmmm I''m not convinced, he''s got no Championship experience has he? Or maybe he has and I can''t find anything on google lol.  It''s ok playing for a team like Dartford, but it''s a whole lot different to playing Championship football.

Still I guess if this is true the NC scouts must have been watching him play for a while and must see something in him that impressed.

Either that or they are desperate and can''t get any proven players to come to NCFC. [:)]

Certainly not much to lose anyway.

Who was the last non-league player we signed that became a first team regular? Lee Marshall maybe? We made a fair old profit in him in the end from memory.

Dartford top-scorer Cody McDonald trained with Norwich City in what could lead to a dream move to the Coca-Cola Championship.

The 22-year-old striker joined in with the club''s first team squad on Sunday and Monday with a view to a move to Carrow Road.

Darts manager Tony Burman accompanied McDonald to Norwich on Sunday but stressed that no deal had been struck.

"Before Bryan Gunn was appointed manager, I was talking to him in his capacity as head of recruitment," said Burman.

"So talks have been ongoing for some time. Throughout, Norwich have handled themselves professionally.

"There has been no out-and-out offer so we can only wait and see what develops."

Norwich are one of a number of League clubs who have expressed interest in McDonald who joined Darts from Maldon Town in October last year.

He sounds like exactly the sort of striker we need right now.  He''s obviously a natural goal scorer and must be highly rated by the number of football league clubs interested in him.  The fee to a club of Dartfords size would be minimal, as would be his wages.  For the chance to play in the Championship and a proper proffesional contract you would think this lad would be chomping at the bit.  It is probably his boyhood dream to play for a club the size of ours so "eager to do well" would be something of an understatement.  Should it all go pear shaped and it turns out that he cannot make the step up then he will probably be easily moved on to a league 1 or 2 side, at a profit. On the optimistic side we could well have uncovered a future star and Canary legend!  Either way I see it as a win win situation.

[/quote]neil doncasters slogan?but aside from that i totally agree, its the same down the spectrum, if you have a proven scorer at lower level, then sign them, if they struggle a team in that level he was at would most likely take a chance on him due to his track record.there are bargains to be had...

All im trying to say is, that even if we do sign him, it will be for a small fee. with a low wage, not causing us an financial troubles, therefore surely we will only make a profit from him as a player? or he will rot away in reserves like peter thorne .. only time will tell.

hi im new on this site because i was lookin for news on cody mcdonald because i no him from my local area and have seen him play plenty of times for witham town and then maldon town until he moved on to dartford where hes been banging the goals in. hes a great player at non league level but im not sure what he would be like at championship level which might be to high for him. but if hes been having a trail and done okay in the training with much better quality players than he usually plays with then he would be a great signing for norwich. hes lighting fast and a clinical goal scorer. hes not very tall but very strong and wins headers for his size. hes only problem has been his displine hasn''t been the greatest..but by moving to a higher league i think he can sort that out. if he can make the grade then i think he will take his chance.

Whilst it''s great that people mention players such as Kevin Phillips, Les Ferdinand, Ian Wright and Michael Kightly, there are also a huge amount of players who cannot make the step up to our level, in fact those that do are in the minority.A great example of this is Stuart Fleetwood, was banging goals in for fun at Forest Green, got a transfer to Charlton and never played, went to Cheltenham and was decent (goal every 3 games), but then went to Brighton on loan and hasn''t scored in 11 games...Let''s also not forget Peter Thompson, the guy we were interested in from NI side Linfield but couldn''t agree a deal, he went to Stockport for £100k and has so far managed just 3 goals in 18 appearances for them...If we do go in for Mcdonald, we should be paying very little, and expecting less. If he proves this wrong - great, we''ve got a promising player for very little cash, but chances are he wouldn''t be able to step up.
