I hope our American investors step up and help mitigate the need to cash in on Sara, Sainz, Sargent and Rowe and ensure Gunn and our POTS remain. This is the core of a team which under the right coach can achieve automatic promotion next season.

This summer will show the level of ambition. If the investors allow our Crown Jewels to be sold then it will make it very tough to achieve promotion and we will know our club’s ambition level is low

Time for the investors to step up - first to protect our assets, second to inspire a good coach to join us.

Don’t worry! We seldom sell our top players whatever the offer.

It’s not about how rich owners you have it’s about managing the FFP rules! We will need to address any debt now accrued over the past & upcoming championship seasons.

Thats the reality of this division and it’s great to have parachute money but you also have a huge wage debt to restructure not only players but other areas too! I’m not sure our owners will gamble on points deduction on the gamble of keeping high wage earners on getting up!

I’m not expecting them to to flout the FFP rules, but if the players I mentioned know that the investors are ambitious and will back the new manager then maybe they’ll stay another season. Obviously, silly wage offers from premier league clubs will scupper this…

Are there any other sort?

We genuinely may not want to sell, but that doesn’t stop players going. Rowes agent made it clear he was off speaking in January, and Rowe never said that’s not true. Some of our players also put up with some bad abuse aimed at them by a section of our fans and some of those may or may not be considering their futures.

The money coming in will be lower and thus any player who gets a decent offer will go.

The only reason they wont is if the money is not that good or they think the club will get more for them the following season.

Any of them could go but lets be honest talented but we have been poor at times these season so really maybe Sara will go for good money, Sargent is worth more to a rich champs team than a prem team atm and as for Rowe I think he may stay unless someone pays the money desired but 15/20 million + ? hmmm.  Sainz I think v good but under the radar for a bit more time I think to be worth big bucks.

The new manager (Hoff) to me looks like a money ball sort of hire.  We will get cheaper young players train them and sell them and hopefully do this whilst playing attractive football (which aids in the valuation).

I do not see it as a lets win the league type hire, I see it as a buy low sell high get promoted on the way if possible hire.

It is logical for the new owners now the parachute payments are sailing.

What utter nonsense. The PL is not a footballing cash converters.

If a City player gets an offer from a PL club what are we supposed to do. Remember when we were in the PL and took players from Leeds. Were they accused by the numpties of 'selling their 'assets' ?

Why did we not meet what Buendia was being offered at Villa. Or Maddison at Leicester. Godfrey at Everton ?

And the idea that Anatole could match PL wages takes this to another level of absurdity. You would have every agent knocking on the door claiming their player is wanted by a PL club, but is willing to stay at City if the club matches the wages he is supposedly being offered.

Are we 'selling' Idah in the summer ? Or is it more likely he wants away, to a bigger club, no doubt better wages and European football. So who would be the instigator in that move ? Wicked Norwich City intent or doing the fans down, or Idah moving up a notch ot two. If it is the latter then what is the club supposed to do ? Block the move and have one very annoyed player being a disruptive force - which I could hardly blame him. Great advert for players thinking of joining the club in the future, when at an early stage in their development.

Rowe is a London lad at heart. If his boyhood club he supports (Arsenal) were to offer to massively increase his wages and stick a six figure signing on fee in front of him, what's his response going to be. Complain that City are selling him ?

How on earth do you think we signed Buendia, Maddison and Godfrey ? At the time we were regarded as a step up - there was also the no small matter that we had a good reputation for developing young players. Some work out, some like McCallum appear not to.

Why did Gibbs join us ? Did the binners sell him. Or did he see a Cat 1 academy with all that entails being better for his development ?  Him being a town supporting Suffolk lad. And you are expecting a Spaniard, a Brazilian and a Yank to show some bizarre 'loyalty'  to us, against their best interests ?

How were we going to replace Holt, or Wes ? Pukki and Buendia, that's who. Eventually off they went, in different professional directions to be replaced by Sargeant and Sara. Aboh is now waiting in the wings. If he fulfils the promise last season suggested then undoubtedly a wealthy club will come calling. That's why Jimmy Greaves and others headed off to Italy in the sixties, just as why Sara and Nunez joined us. Better money, better prospects. That's how it always has been. And I'm sure there has always been those griping about ambition. Every club has ambition. Not every club has the money that Man City has. Though as yesterday showed even all that wealth does not guarantee automatic success.

And look down the road, McKenna could be off, despite some yank coming over and waving money at him. I wonder if the binners are complaining that they always sell their best managers..... Ramsay, Robson and now possibly this one.

So why not enjoy them when they are here, wish then well if they move upwards and understand that's how it is and probably will be for the near future at least. You might then just appreciate what the club has achieved, when set against so many other similar sized club.

Money does not guarantee success

You’re not very ambitious, hope you’re not Antanasio!

True, money doesn’t guarantee success, but it can prevent mediocrity. As stated in my follow up post, silly wage offers we cannot compete with, but that doesn’t mean we should let our crown jewels go without a fight

How can we possibly know what Attanasio's intentions are for the foreseeable, all the money in the world may not be able to overcome the lure of the Premier League .... but then the lure of the Premier League is not the only factor as massive as it is.

Managers and players have often failed by jumping too soon.

I think anyone still expecting Attanasio to come in and pave the road with gold is going to be forever disappointed.

I expect an upgraded version of the buy low/ sell high paradigm we've been working with. This summer, I think that means selling Sara and Rowe & putting weighty price tags on anyone else.

The 'fight' is how much we can demand for them and realising the best possible value we can expect to get, should they want to leave.

You could say the club has been over ambitious hence the need to balance the books now.

I don’t think we can confuse ambition with stupidity

Until attansio is on board as majority shareholder I can’t see us being secure for our players hence why we’ve got a coach in who will play youth players
