Club site behind the times?

Recommended Posts

Just checking out the squad on the NCFC site, and apparently Pierre Lees-Melou and Christopher Zimmermann are both still playing for us. Have the deals not actually been completed yet, or has the site just not been updated?

They're gone but they're not going to be updating that constantly. I would imagine a big update with new headshots will happen after the window closes.

I mentioned the same thing on another topic. We don't have pictures of two players but we do of those who have left. I cannot understand how the club website is so far behind. Surely they have a webmeister in the building? Not exactly media savvy sometimes.

It's not just NCFC. It never ceases to amaze me how many companies/institutions don't update their websites regularly. No excuse for it really, just lazy on whoever's job it is to keep it up to date.

If this is the worst thing happening at the club, then we must be doing alright.

Try getting tickets for the Hull game then!! Notionally on sale yesterday at 09.30 yet ticketing website has been down and phone lines as well (or completely full).

Doesn't make it OK though. How do we know its the worst?

I'm not hammering the club but I try and pay attention to detail and its annoying that the club cannot keep its website up to date.

I think they need to peddle a little bit harder / Faster KGD.

Well Sam can give us an update in his next Insight video. Sounds like the whole thing has been outsourced.

Bit of a shambles really that you can't buy tickets either. Doesn't bode well as they've had all summer to test it.

As I’ve posted on a different thread, the club are very likely to be reliant on external suppliers for things like the website hosting and ticketing. They can test it all they like, but if a cleaner pulls out a plug in an Amazon data center in the US, or someone activates a faulty network configuration in Bangalore, there’s not a lot that they can do about it.

So what is their contingency plan in the event of what is looking like a major failure? Just as well we don't play at home on Saturday I'd say!!

Be absolutely amazed if the first scenario could happen, as most servers are racked in server cabinets which have their own diverse power, the cleaner would have no access to this. Probably C13/14 connection too - rather than a 3 pin plug. Also I would expect the hosting server to be load balanced, and have some fail over resilience.

Second option - unfortunately is very possible, but the old config should be stored and should be able to be replaced quite quickly.

However as with all these things, fixing the cause doesn't take time, identifying the cause does.

You’re right, I do know of a few stories like this (including the Emergency Power Off button being mounted next to the Open Door button) but a properly designed environment should make it difficult if not impossible. I chose an example that would  make the point clearly, rather than something more likely but less familiar unless you’re a sad IT nerd like me.

It’s the config changes, especially those where the issue only appears over time, which can be difficult to diagnose and resolve. For instance, where whether by accident or design, a resource (e.g. memory or a buffer pool) is too low, and it only runs out hours or days after being changed.

But I suspect we are now at the TMI stage. Whatever, when a customer of a huge corporation like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft or Google has an issue with a service that’s not working, they will be just one of many in a queue of hundreds if not thousands of people who need it fixed.

How about club strips? I read that some clubs have not had the amounts they ordered. Have we had a problem?

I shall be wearing my Centenary shirt on Saturday. I think the new shirt looks OK as a strip but not keen on it just as a shirt.

It is indeed behind the times, the fact I can’t use Apple Pay or PayPal to make payments on it these days is beyond silly

The site was much more with it under Chris Hughton

Pretty much all gone now. Got my size L from fan hub this morning. All mediums sold out , a few S and L left and huge sizes. The Ruby is virtually all gone!

But they're good at producing high quality video's outside of the core activity of the club. Bread n butter stuff first Mr Commercial Director. Where is the governance over this shoddy core stuff?

Absolutely agree with this.  It's not good enough and once again shows the lack of Corporate governance. The commercial team needs to focus on core stuff, not lots of nice non-core videos. Sort it!

Like I say, attention to detail.
