Assist for Sargent?

Recommended Posts

He deserves an assist. He was brilliant. Not a striker, but on the right wing, he's a pain to any team and he supports Aarons pretty well.

It's a weird one. Fact that Keane put it in doesn't stop it being a good cross.

I still think our equaliser against Rotherham away was one of our best goals of last season. Lovely move, brilliant cross by Max, so good that the defender had to put it in.

Anyway, justice for Josh!

Can you assist an own goal?

No assists are awarded when an own goal is scored by the opposing team, as this was specifically identified as an exception to an assist by Opta. However, an assist may be awarded in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) if an own goal is scored.

The definition of an assist by Opta clearly states that no one will be credited with an assist in the event of an own goal:

Own goals, directly taken free kicks, direct corner goals and penalties do not get an assist awarded.

Opta

For example, if you cross the ball into the penalty area, but a defender puts the ball into the net, you will not be awarded an assist!

Shows what a funny ol' game it is.

As the cross went in, I thought it was a poor one, albeit hard and low, but it didnt beat the first man - again. However their defender slices it in and it becomes a good cross!

Ill take that!

Nice to see the dust blown off the GOAL graphics on the score boards too! TWICE!

I have to disagree, I was right in one with it and it was a good ball in, low and hard into the "area of uncertainty", the defender had to go for it as there was a Norwich player behind him, we should have been and should continue to play in more ball like this......

I think Opta should change their 'insular model', it's an embarrassment to the world of football stats, they are insulting the Premier League, there should be serious consideration to reducing the number of stats teams in the marketplace.

Obviously I'll amend my opinion if they decide to play Billy Gilmour and stop blaming him for all their problems.

Assist? I'm counting it as a goal!

If you look in slo-mo it has a curve to it, just at a slightly odd sharp angle, missing Keane's desperate foot.

Exactly this, it wasn't a great cross if you're judging it on picking a man out - but the area he delivered it into with pace forces defender to either put out for corner, or as seen.

Must admit, I thought Sargent looked puzzled as to where he should be standing when Max had possession, he looked like a spare arm just dangling static,  was shouting for him to move.

Watching the highlights on MoTD you can see him jostling to stay onside and wanting that ball back, maybe not the smartest of players at this moment, but he's improving a great deal and needs to take absolute credit for that ball in.

Is that a fantasy league assist?

As stated in my OP - However, an assist may be awarded in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) if an own goal is scored

Also great to see Sargent, Aarons and Pukki take cards for stopping their attacks. Rather less pleased that no one closed down Pickford so that he couldn't release the ball early.....

To be fair is anyone ever bothered about assists apart from Fantasy Football Managers anyway?

Fair point, same as XG stats and the like.

It's goals that count, simple as.
