It’ll be interesting to see how results go today after last weekend - think I’m right there were no draws at all.

Liverpool v Burnley first up in the PL - Burnley started ok but Liverpool are one up (ring any bells) and had a second ruled out by var. Interesting to see how feeble Burnley are, for all their physicality they seem to go down as if they are shot very easily (ring any other bells?!)….

Bet if Burnley lose by 3 or more, you won’t have MOTD etc all relegating them today!

I started watching this game but have switched over to QPR v Barnsley. Barnsley are playing some good one touch stuff, so may devote the majority of my time to  this game, instead of Liverpool.

As much as i despise liverpool fc , their fans and everything they stand for...need them to win this.

If there are going to be 3 sides that we are aiming to finish above, Burnley I think would be one this season

Well, quite. You get the feeling that, for some reason, there’s a number of pundits who want us to fail….maybe because they can’t be arsed to do their homework on us and we’re not in London.

Why is that when watching Liverpool, you soon start cheering on the opposition?

I dislike Liverpool more and more... Under the cosh... player Taken out in the box that I think should have been a pen to Burnley, not looked at by VAR... Then up the other end and score... Firmly In the non fan club...

Didn’t they lose to Brighton or someone last weekend? No shame in any side losing back to back against Liverpool and Man City, as you wouldn’t be able to judge much from that, but the Burnley fans will be concerned losing to Brighton at home I’m sure. Don’t think they’ve been very busy in the transfer market either so there won’t be much for them to feel optimistic about so far. Need Liverpool to put a few past them.

I think you’ve nailed it in one, Branston. Always get the impression Mark Lawrenson and Garth Crooks see us as a PL irritant or something.

We make life easy for Pundits. The last two times they have lazily predicted us to go down, we have gone down.
They are now predicting us to go down again. So all we can hope is that we prove them wrong . But you can’t blame them. If you were a neutral pundit paid to predict the relegation places , what would you say?

They've bought Nathan Collins, CB from Stoke for £12.5 million, he's on the bench. Also another CB from S****horpe on a free transfer. That's it. Definitely think that their purchase last year has left them in a predicament and hope that this year might be the one that sees their limited footballing ability failing to save them.

Oh, and also Hennessy, the thicko GK who didn't know what a N@zi salute was-also a free transfer.

My thoughts exactly! Burnley have a proven record of survival in the premier league in their recent history, we have a proven record of… well, relegation.

So what can we expect? I am not sure why so many posters get offended by it. It’s not going to define our season, if anything it should act as motivation for our players.

The issue with the pundits is that they typically favour the teams they have played for, or against the most.

So Lawrenson likes Preston, Liverpool and Brighton. As he already has a couple of provincial teams, and has spent time on the south coast, he was alsways likely to like Bournemouth. He also played for Barnet so not that far away from Brentford really. You can see the sort of geographical favouritism going on.

Garth Crooks - Stoke, Man Utd(loan), West Brom, Spurs and Charlton. So Manchester and London with a bit of brum.

Lineker I feel is often quite neutral, he obviously is behind Leicester and that's no secret, but I never feel he treats them with any prejudiced and will at least express bias if he has a view. He can be complimentary of many of the provincial sides like Burnley - who can be unpopular with fans of other clubs.

It is what it is though, and so be it to an extent. A lot are very Premier League focused and readily dismiss promoted teams unless they have a personal attachment to them that gives them more detailed information.

I just ignore it. It's why I subscribe to the "ignore the noise" mantra. They're paid to flap their lips and type pieces. If it was unimaginative no one would give a monkeys, so it's always a bit deliberately edgy.

I would say what you have described is as unimaginative as it gets though, I don’t think many of them say much that I’d call ‘deliberately edgy’? Most of it is completely surface level analysis which you can tell has taken little thought. It’s just a shame we keep proving them right…

It is the safest bet, every season without fail, to predict the promoted three to go straight back down. By and large many do. The gulf between the PL and the Championship is forever growing making it harder and harder for clubs to retain and attract the sort of player that would push you into that genuine too good for the championship bracket.

That said, you could just as easily say that relegation candidates is likely to be three from; Watford, Brentford, Norwich, Newcastle, Palace, Burnley, Wolves, Brighton and Southampton. But even then you would have to say Southampton and Brighton play good football, Newcastle have a good 4-5 midtable PL players in Shelvey, Saint-Maximim, Wilson and Almiron, Wolves have performed well in recent years.

It very much is a case of which 3-4 can get some points and some space and which will struggle and be dragged in.

I’m sure no one’s particularly offended, just a bit mystified by it.  Writing a side off completely after one game is just ridiculous..

Yeah in fairness I think anyone ‘writing us off’ is being a bit silly. But I don’t think predicting / tipping us for relegation at the start of the season is particularly outrageous, they have to choose a few teams somehow.

It's not as if their jobs are on the line though is it? I pointed out that Lawrenson came bottom out of all of the BBC pundits in their predictions for every game of EURO 2020- I think it was out of 16 pundits? Yet here he is, "predicting" again this season.

Is it too much to expect them to actually put a bit of thought into their jobs?

At the end of the day though, it isn't going to affect the final table so we might as well ignore their ignorance!
