A Rasmussen poll … but of course. Just ignore.

This is an accurate representation of yourself when listening to news you don't like.

Herman is well known for making assumptions.

Why would you think this Jools?

In my opinion anyone that actively supported brexit is directly linked to helping get Johnson and his corrupt government into power. People can moan all they liked that they wanted a soft brexit but it was that was not going to happen very early on. It's quite simple as it was easy to spot what was going on.

What a shambolic mess western leadership is, starting with Biden and working its way down. If the only way Bidens' qualities can be illustrated is by reference to Trump......... my god what **** show!

I think we all need to grasp VW that Biden was far from the best candidate (too old as per Trump himself) BUT he was the best and most likely candidate to remove Trump which the majority of Americans thought essential and to start to return the USA to some sort of normality and 'values'. Such is the state of US democracy at present.

There are similar thoughts here too with Johnson - Starmer nay not be everybody's cup of tea but at least he is competent and lives in the real world.

I would like to believe that Harris will be the next President of the USA.

I was referring to Western leaders in general as I'm sure you are aware, but when making that generalisation it has to start at the top which whether we like it or not is the US. We have seen millions of peoples lives destroyed in Afghanistan with the inevitable emergence of a new generation of terrorists, we have stood by and watched while Russia has been building massive military strength on the Eastern border of Europe, since last March, and we even now see an environment where the Chinese and Russians are potentially forming closer alliance. In terms of the world stage a disastrous period with hugely unpredictable future consequences for us all.

I accept there was little choice in the US as there was little choice in the UK, maybe democracy has had its day, what is a choice when there is no choice, its a **** show.

In truth we are seeing all the negatives of social media. It has allowed via misinformation 'niche' political views to appear mainstream, gather strength and become polarizing - and most easily exploited in a race to the bottom by populists.

It is a clear exploitable weakness in any democracy that those that 'vote' can be today so easily misinformed and misled. You can see it at play on these very pages.

As to your general point about the West's 'lack of action' as you know I'm socially left of centre (Blairite I suppose) but I believe in standing up to bullies. We should not of left Afghanistan (or not until it was fully stable) and the issues today with Putin stem from not taking sterner actions earlier in his other expansionist adventures. With a bully if you give an inch they take a mile. It's often easier to turn a blind eye but it does you no good in the long run.

That penny may have just dropped

We were too busy enjoying a boom while Putin was planning. The World was spending its way to happiness. Technology had no class distinction. Even outlying areas of Africa and Amazon have mobile phones. All the UK could moan about was immigration. Even the Irish problem had been solved (hadn't it?).

China was taking its people away from woks over an open fire to fine dining in London. Why would they care if the were repressed politically? Full stomachs do not make revolutionaries.

Russia had as many manufactured billionaires as anyone else. The oligarchs still spat on the carpet but what the hell, buy another one.

The US was losing its influence. Oil wasn't the greatest currency anymore. The dependence on it was real but diminishing. The Saudis were having to buy their influence in other quarters. And they were realising that they had internal problems yet to solve.

Recreational drugs meant a major amount people couldn't care less at the weekend. They were out of it and any problems.

But all the time, those with the greatest amount to gain were scheming with a smile but a closed fist. Whether it was militarily or economically, they realised that we would all be asleep one day, content and dreaming, and they would wake us up with bad news.

Nations who believed they were at the Security Council because they were important were so weak they elected liars and crooks and if anything went wrong, their lack of ability shone through. No wonder, the public didn't really give two monkeys. Be fair, we were watching City on a stream from an NZ TV company.

Fcuk me, Saturday night TV is just a form of happy pill. Celebrity Bogie Picking or a quiz that a four year old could get right even though he or she was TikToking their new buddy in Guatemala while waiting for Just Eat to deliver their BigMAc topped pizza because Mum was too busy because or her new nails and botox injection.

Anyway, I'm off to the airport as I want to go into space.

Exactly, a two-horse race between a window-licker and someone who ****s pencil sharpeners is still a two-horse race. It merely reflects the symptoms of the gamed, inefficient, and antiquated model of pseudo-democracy/oligarchy the USA has.

Many excellent points made, KG. Do you think the decline and fall of the west is a natural process to the way events panned out or do you think there have been actions taken to bring about the decline of the west?

As an illustration.

I think I have mentioned I was the National Secretary of the NZ Printing Union. For a long time, before the advent of real technological advances in the mid 70s, we were a powerful union. We represented among others, newspaper workers. At that time, newspapers were the real news media and certainly influenced opinion.

And of course, the majority were daily. If you miss a day, you cannot retrieve it. You could lose a fifth of your income in one teeny dispute.

So owners, who were powerful men, and still are, were loathe to upset their staff. We were very well paid, certainly the highest among the apprenticeship trades. More holidays, better sick pay etc.

And this trickled down to the rest of the Printing industry who enjoyed 95% of what the newspaper boys and girls had negotiated.

But by the late 70s and early 80s, our members had become far too comfortable and the attitude changed to I'm all right Jack, stuff supporting anyone else. I think many believed they had become middle class. And of course, with the advent of technology, many were walking away with massive redundancy payments.

In fact, the Branch Secretary of the South West Printing Union which covered Cornwall was a member of the Conservative Party???

We had gone soft. In 1991 when our company said they were closing our front end department, none of the other departments supported us when we tried to get the "shareholders" to change their minds.

Why would they? They did a thirty five hour week, 6 weeks holiday  year and all overtime at double time with shift premiums counting on the hourly rate as well.

They were comfortable and had gone soft. Why risk it? It wouldn't happen to them.

And this attitude has amplified its way through life in all Western nations. I can't be bothered. Its not my fault. I have too much to lose.

And that attitude prevails today. Oh yes, they will put their hands in their wallets for charities etc but thats easy. Anything else is too much trouble.

I grew up a Socialist because my Father was a Communist. He became one after coming back from WWII to find the "land fit for heroes hadn't changed. The country had elected a Labour Government, which introduced the NHS, and then dumped it after one term. Those in power before the war were now back in control again.

A global war was the ideal time to make real changes when peace arrived. And sweet FA had changed.

Biden is doing a tremendous job.

Petrol prices have gone up 60p in the last 14 months and 10p in the last fortnight. Russia has invaded one of the "US allies". The Taliban have gained several $billion in weapons following the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Strongest President ever, change my mind. 😀

I think after what Trump tried on with Zelensky and Ukraine you Trumpetts should probably wind your necks in for a while. You are not on the right side.

You don't have anything resembling a mind to change. Everything you mention is NOTHING to do with Biden. You're obviously too stupid to notice that fuel and energy price rises are happening here and in the rest of the world too. As for the Taliban, it was Trump who negotiated with them an UNCONDITIONAL withdrawal of US forces from Afghanistan (something he disgracefully did entirely independent of any discussion with the Afghan government or any of the allies). Meanwhile loser Trump spends his time praising Putin. Well done to you for supporting a traitor.

Ohhh I get it, you mean it's not Biden pulling the strings.

I know you're completely detached from reality so it's probably best to point out Trump is not President, Biden is. If we apply your logic to everything it's Robert Chase's fault for City's current predicament.

Like I have said, Biden is President, not Trump. If anyone needs to be blamed for the current state of world affairs it is the incumbent President not the previous. To paraphrase, only an imbecile would think otherwise.

Like I have said, Biden is President, not Trump. If anyone needs to be blamed for the current state of world affairs it is the incumbent President not the previous. To paraphrase, only an imbecile would think otherwise.

Jesus Christ you are so thick. Just how stupid do you have to be not to know the difference between being the cause of of problem and being burdened with having to respond to it. By your utterly dumb "analysis" Zelenskyy , as the "incumbent" Ukrainian president, should be blamed for Putin's invasion.  Yep! you're so thick that you haven't even thought about the simple implications and utter idiocy of your claim. You haven't the slightest clue about the causal processes involved in the current state of world affairs. No doubt that explains why you haven't said a single word in defence of your imbecilic claim that Biden has caused these problems. Pathetic!
