We could have been Leeds

Funny you should mention Charlton - they are a good example of what happens when a club becomes "ambitious" (spends money they can't afford).

After regular EPL football they were pretty well established in the Premier League, but as you may remember the fans weren't happy - they wanted more "ambition."

Curbishley was moved on - they spent "big money by the Addicks standards" and of course, it didn't work. They were relegated, spent more big money trying to get back, ended up in big  debt then went on the search for finance - we know the rest!

So much for "ambition" / profligacy - we could have been Charlton!

If you think our record over that past 15 or 20 years is similar to Charlton's I would suspect that you have not looked into it at all deeply.

In the last 20 years, we have had the same amount of premier league years as Charlton.

They have had none since 2007 just after they lost their financial discipline. All of our Premier League exposure bar one year was AFTER 2007 and we have had only one year in League One and only one owner.

Again, If you think our record over that past 15 or 20 years is similar to Charlton's I would suspect that you have not looked into it at all deeply.

Can we have a definitive list of all the teams we:

A) could have been

B) question why we aren’t them currently

A- Any team in the Prem that wins a match

That seems to be the gist of it

My Christmas wish is we can go just one month on here without mentioning Leeds.

You chose the wrong weekend for that. With the top 3 all dropping points & Leeds managing consecutive clean sheets, plus reducing their gd to a mere minus 2, the news is that all bets are now off for the title to finish up at Elland Rd this season. The Leeds-Luvvie MSM have even gone as far as demanding that the EPL hand over the trophy straight away as an early Christmas prezzie. However, in response, Mr. Bielsa, ever the Southern Gentleman, has insisted that before that can happen, each visiting team from now on are to be awarded a "one free goal start" (à la Villa 2019) just to make sure that everyone acknowledge they´ll really, really, finally deserve to win something at last.

No, mate, you haven´t heard the last of this...

...Lowfields 1919 hasn´t even started on you lot yet.

Cheers everyone.

The references to Charlton are because they were once the model we aspired to:

The media appear to have stopped loving "proper club" Leeds quite so much as normal. Instead, they've upped the "Jack Grealish is the greatest player ever to have lived" campaign, to the point where the England manager had no choice but to play him, despite not actually rating him. Poor James Maddison.

It's been done to death. We didn't do that, because our owners aren't wealthy enough to take those financial risks. In the current climate, taking steps to keep the club afloat is the most important thing. What if we had gambled £50m on new players and gone down anyway? Where would that leave us now?

The boy Webber stated at the recent AGM that it is not down to the money issue that Norwich were not able to compete. In that case what have Norwich been doing wrong that all the others clubs who have stayed up been doing right? Palace, Brighton, Burnley, Southampton, Newcastle, Leicester, etc? And now Villa and Leeds, two of City's most recent Championship rivals.

Yes - the irony is that Charlton stopped following "the Charlton model" - they became "ambitious" and wanted to "move to the next level." Both phrases mean that they wanted to spend more than they could afford and were going on a "sh1t or bust" gamble that they would get a slightly higher place in the league.

As usual, it failed - gravity always get you in the end - unless you have a multi, multi billionaire, who can afford to lose a billion without noticing it.
