Branston Pickle 3,659 Posted October 4, 2019 There was no mention of Vrancic, so do we assume he’s ok? His injury did seem to be a bit vague and was only meant to be a week or so when he did it over 3 weeks ago.
Jim Smith 2,319 Posted October 4, 2019 I must confess I missed this article last week but some interesting quotes from Chriss Domogella in Conor Southwell;s article about our injury crisis including the following: "Interestingly, City's head of performance, Chris Domogalla, stated that City have altered their approach on the training pitches following their top-flight return. Speaking to Training Ground Guru, he said: "What we had already worked out from the stats was that the number of high-intensity sprints was more in the Premier League than we had been used to during our two seasons in the Championship. "You have to concentrate all of the time, or else you can be punished. Building concentration and mental fitness has been something we've worked on in our training scenarios." I am finding it increasingly hard to believe that there is not some connection between this spate of injuries and the workload put on the players in pre-season and training. Now obviously if there are more intensive sprints required in the premier league then you need to prepare for that and I wouldn't criticise them for doing so on a managed basis but if our players are not used to it then there could perhaps be a link between this and some of the injuries our players seem to be picking up, even if the injuries themselves are then sometimes triggered by a heavy tackle.
Capt. Pants 4,234 Posted October 4, 2019 So presumably Byram and Cantwell another training injury.

It's Character Forming 1,161 Posted October 4, 2019 It's a dreadful position to be in. The starting 11 is fine, the problem is we are really struggling if we need sub(s) to bring on and get goals. Last season there were plenty of options who could come on and score goals (Vrancic, Rhodes) and equally we could switch around the midfield to control the game when we were ahead. That's just not possible this season, until Drmic/Roberts start to find their feet. Also any injuries during games to any defensive/midfield players would really leave us on the rack. The problem is as well that whilst the starting 11 is fine, they are all having to play pretty much all of every game as we don't have the resource to change things, that in turn means their workload is higher and makes it more likely that they pick up fatigue related injuries. Really feels like if we get an injury to Pukki or Emi then we are scr*wed.
CANARYKING 638 Posted October 4, 2019 Half the first team squad is either injured, playing injured or doubtful, if we survive this season it will be a miracle
Branston Pickle 3,659 Posted October 4, 2019 (edited) Tbh, like it or not, some of the issues in defence are a little of our own making - we needed strengthening* for the PL season and didn’t...for me, one of the few errors SW/DF have made. Hanley wasn’t the answer in the Champs so isn’t now, even when fit, Zimm and Klose were injured pre-season and missed the start. IMO a new cb was a must but didn’t arrive, so Amadou is being played out of position (and being criticised unfairly by some when he makes errors). All that said, no doubt any cb we’d have brought in would have been immediately crocked! *edit: I meant strengthening in defence Edited October 4, 2019 by Branston Pickle
Rivvo 257 Posted October 4, 2019 I think we did strengthen in the summer where we felt we could get better players than those we had for what we could afford and those who had the right attitude, maybe we couldn’t find a CB that fit the bill, however this is absolutely the worst season in my memory for injuries, especially as they seem to have been concentrated in the defence. I still think we’ll have enough, especially once the injured start to return.
GJL Mid-Norfolk Canary 1,759 Posted October 4, 2019 Whether we should have bought more defenders is another argument....but we started this season with 4 centre halves and 6 central mids (including Amadou). Those numbers are fine and I would doubt other clubs would carry higher numbers than that. Whats happened to us in terms of injuries is unprecedented and unforseen. I do however find it odd that we have 10 or so players out on loan but we're seemingly unable/ not allowed to recall any of them ,even in a crisis such as this when we can barely fill our bench? Boris 56 Posted October 4, 2019 Godfrey after Villa hernia operation mean if Hanley is not fit we have Amadou + no centre back for Bornemouth away at least ! We are so fragile with injured or not fully fit defenders at the moment.Think must concentrate next 2-3 games to take any pts and keep team much more compact over all... I want to like your post but the second half won’t allow me to. Surely you can see that no club being loaned to would be in favour of the loanee being ripped away from them without warning at any point in the season? If that’s the condition attached, they would just go elsewhere for the sake of stability.

Well surely thats the risk you take when loaning a player....as I'm fairly sure it was how it used to be? ...Ownership should overule everything and players should be able to be recalled at anytime
