CANARYKING 638 Posted February 6, 2018 Red card rescinded so no suspension which seems ridiculous as it should have been a yellow, and having been booked already he would have been set off anyway with a one game out !
ron obvious 1,502 Posted February 6, 2018 Bonkers. if that wasn''t a red card I don''t know what is. Late for the ball, studs up ... potentially a leg breaker.Absolutely bonkers.
ricardo 7,395 Posted February 6, 2018 Unnecessary tackle, late and aggressive. Rightly carded, ludicrous decision.

SwindonCanary 455 Posted February 6, 2018 The powers that be, decided that it was not studs up, which seems very strange
DDD In The Fine City 1 Posted February 6, 2018 Steve Gibson is about as chummy with the FA as it gets, no surprise
lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted February 6, 2018 To be fair, it did look worse than it was. But it was defo a yellow card which makes the whole appeal process farcical. He should have a least a one game ban. Decisions should only be overturned if there is a glaringly obvious injustice or mistake. That certainly isn’t the case here. Poor from the FA. Guest Posted February 6, 2018 Agree Lincoln. Absolutely bizarre decision - wonder if we can appeal it ;)
First Wazzock 902 Posted February 6, 2018 Having said all of the above, his first yellow was undeserved.
hogesar 9,674 Posted February 6, 2018 The FA making a mistake? Potentially favouring friendly faces? No. Impossible. I dont believe it. Not for a second.

Poor from the FA.[/quote]Not sure what you mean by it looking worse than it was. As I understand it dangerous play is defined as play that threatens to cause injury to a player. So it doesn''t matter if there is no injury, or even if there is no contact, which there definitely was in this case. And it is no defence that the player gets the ball as well.It is the potential for injury that matters. Seemingly the FA has decided that Gestede''s studs were not raised, but he certainly went in with both feet, out of control, which I would have thought still made it a tackle that threatened to cause injury. ron obvious 1,502 Posted February 6, 2018 If you watch the video in slow motion you can clearly see Gestede''s studs from some distance out. You can also see that Hanley''s boot is on the floor, & that he got there first. It stinks.
lake district canary 4,531 Posted February 6, 2018 Well you can watch it here and he went sliding in with one foot, studs up. Gets the ball but then contacts one of Hanley''s ankles and then his foot then deflects sharply upwards into Hanley''s unmentionables, which is why he went down so badly. Dangerous tackle in every sense. Red card all day long. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4XBYUe75Bc
AJ 1,221 Posted February 6, 2018 Madness, red card all day long. Agree with the above comments, very farcical given two yellows would have been a one match ban which cannot be appealed
Guest Posted February 6, 2018 Compare this to the appeal we lost last season for Brady at Brentford. It’s ridiculous but as mentioned above you almost come to expect nothing less from those who run our game.
CANARYKING 638 Posted February 7, 2018 Instead of getting off scot free the red should be down graded to a yellow. Two yellows equals one game suspension.
Woodman 92 Posted February 7, 2018 Maybe Hanley should have been booked for simulation then!!Crazy decision - I don''t believe it''s possible to down grade to a yellow post-match, but that would be the most sensible decision, if it was deemed to not be a straight red (which most people think it was). Branston Pickle 3,659 Posted February 7, 2018 It is ridiculous - the challenge was worthy of a (second) yellow any day of the week, for the panel to say otherwise is just rubbish. The system is simply not fit for purpose as it is wholly inconsistent.
lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted February 7, 2018 You can always over analyse these things, and 9 times out of 10 the challenge always looks worse when in slow mo.It wasn’t a malicious challenge, nor was it out right reckless. But it did carry an element of danger with it, as sliding in head on always does. Win the ball it’s a good challenge, miss time it and it looks bad and can result in injury to the player. Studds will always be ‘up’ when slide tackling. I don’t know how people expect studs to stay down. It’s impossible. The safest way to slide tackle is side on, and if it becomes mid timed there is generally less risk of injury. My comment about it looking worse than it was, was really to do with Hanleys (over) reaction and the fact the contact was minimal with very little force as it was at the end of tackles momentum. Still, it isn’t clear cut. And the ref more than understandably sent him off and should not have had his judgement questioned by the FA.
Woodman 92 Posted February 7, 2018 Can''t disagree with much of that Lincoln, but these days players know (or should know) that if they go into a challenge the way he did, there is a definite risk of a booking/red card. The days of sliding tackles are over, they just carry too much risk - both to the opponent in terms of possible injury, and to the tackler in terms of a yellow/red card.Being on a yellow already, it was a stupid challenge to attempt - regardless of what Pulis said afterwards. SwindonCanary 455 Posted February 7, 2018 It''s probably one of those daft rules, the red that the Ref gave straight off was rescinded so he can''t have it downgraded to a second yellow, so gets away with no ban.
lake district canary 4,531 Posted February 7, 2018 Hanley was not overreacting. If you look at it in slow motion his foot is caught and in real time you can see Gestede''s foot come up after the initial impact and catch him in the coxic area. Painful by anyone''s standards. Graham Paddons Beard 2,431 Posted February 7, 2018 From the FA website. SERIOUS FOUL PLAY A tackle or challenge that endangers the safety of an opponent or uses excessive force or brutality must be sanctioned as serious foul play. Any player who lunges at an opponent in challenging for the ball from the front, from the side or from behind using one or both legs, with excessive force or endangers the safety of an opponent is guilty of serious foul play.
