So let’s turn the discussion. We know we are going to ship at least 2 against Man City, how many can we score? Do we just setup to attack and if it is 5 - 3 would we be OK with that?

No, Hanley can’t turn and has poor balance, and is the worst fit for Man City attackers. Agree with TVB, he’s a much better match up for Burnley.

I hear what you are saying, difference is we have Fahrmann available and w/o Godfrey we have no CB except Amadou (needed as DM) and Hanley (once he’s fit again), after that you are looking at moving people into CB from their existing recognized positions. (Lewis etc) Besides we need a Captain and that should either be Krul or Godfrey - ideally Godfrey as he’s a CB to boss and organize the rest of the team.

Counter-point. We thought we could get at least a point and maybe three at West Ham, I don’t believe we will get anything from Man City, so why risk not getting anything from Burnley etc too?

LDC it’s not defeatist to suggest we will lose. It’s one game and we have plenty more to come. No war is won by winning every skirmish, but wars are always lost once moral collapses. Re-read what I said in that light... I want Godfrey to be fit for the next 5 games, and not risk him tomorrow unless he is 100% O.K. Puuki, Buendia, Cantwell, Steipermann all to play and we will attack Man City as we attack every team. But we are playing probably the best team in Europe, without Leitner or Vrancic, Aaron’s, Zimmermann, Klose, Hanley and quite likeley Godfrey. Back to military analogy I’ll take a tactical defeat and withdrawal to a better position thank you.

We are going to lose. Now the important thing is the team and crowd stay on-side with each other. Although sone may take the cheap shot of “I told you so”, nobody could have planned for this combination of injuries. So tomorrow we will be fine, the crowd know we are going to get tonked, but the team need us for the next batch of “winnable” game even more now.
