  1. Svensson is simply, and rightly in my opinion, frustrated that Roberts gets to start ahead of him. I think you are maybe reading too much into it - he wants to be part of it, on the pitch, and I just wish that others in the squad were equally eager to get in the team. Are you listening, Mulryne/Rivers etc?
  2. I have no problem with your prediction, I admire your optimism!
  3. Svensson for me, with Roberts on the bench.
  4. Relax Morph, they are not always like that - it was just that kind of game. To be honest, I was impressed with our ability to ''mix it'', just as I was against Sheff Utd in January. In games like this, you have to earn the right to play football the way you want to, and it was always going to be difficult against WBA to do this. Watch us again against a team who will let us play a bit, you will see a difference. Mind you, I might suggest Sunday''s little game is not a great place to start!!!
  5. I agree to a point DD, but look at the ratio of fouls committed to free kicks awarded and compare Roberts with Svensson. Sven gets the free kick in his favour more often than not, while Iwan is the one penalised on most occasions! I think Svensson gives us something extra, as we clearly played better when he came on. Mind you, this did sort of coincide with We Love You moving back to the left hand side........ I think Svensson will prove to be a very good signing in the long term, as he already has top flight experience.
  6. It sounded really subdued on Sky, too. As an exile living in Crewe, I was a little disappointed at the apparent lack of atmosphere - maybe they haven''t got the positioning of the microphones right yet!
  7. McVeigh was far better when he moved to the left last night - I was disappointed when Worthy took him off, as he looked our best attacking option with Hucks marked so tightly. And Brennan was immense last night, the only City player who outdid him was Gary Holt - right back to his best. Does anyone know if Drury is gonna miss any games following his injury?
  8. If you''re looking for minimum disruption, I would suggest Keith Webb might do a job for us - after all it wouldn''t be that different to when Walker took over from Stringer, and that turned out ok! In the long term, I would like to see Ian Crook enticed back here from Australia, and Iwan given the chance to get the qualifications and experience. Failing that, Flecky hasn''t done so bad on a local level has he?
  9. I have a feeling that Keith Webb may be that man - failing that, I think we should try and entice Chippy back from Australia to run the academy, then work his way up to the top job.....or possibly big Iwan?
  10. I think we have to be careful about how carried away we get with Shackell. I agree that he is a very good prospect, and witnessed his assured performance against Cardiff. However, he is fast becoming a player with uge expectations on his shoulders - it''s almost as if we expect him to be the answer for many years to come. I hope this is exactly what he is, but we must remember he is only 19 - a place on the bench is the very best he should hope for at this stage of his development. Throw him in too early and it could just ruin his career. And besides, why does everyone seem to want to change a defence that is among the best in the country?
  11. I''m not a great believer in going back to your former club - it very seldom seems to work. Robert Fleck being a good example - although he was okay second time around, he was nowhere near as effective as first time. If we''re in fantasy land, let''s go get Figo, and Maldini too while we''re at it.........
  12. I agree, the whole thing is likely to become completely farcical this weekend! I would suggest putting someone like Edworthy in the ''offside'' position, then allow Huck''s pace to spring through all the confusion....... However, still don''t like the rule one little bit
  13. Isn''t it ironic that further down the list, there are people complaining about our players going on international duty next week, but at the same time can complain because Greeno isn''t getting international recognition? Come on people, we can''t have it both ways........
  14. If everyone remembers correctly, the securitisation loan of £15m which was taken out earlier this season was dependent on the sale of this land - so, my guess is that a large chunk of the 6m will simply go towards paying off some of that loan.
  15. The only thing I think your argument falls down on is the strike rate argument - I think 6 goals from 9 starts this season is pretty good personally, Leon aside it''s as good as anyone else in the squad. I think a one year extension with a new coaching role is the best option - maybe on a pay as you play basis - that way he knows he''s not guaranteed first team football, but is there if we need him.
  16. Aahh, takes me back, this thread, to the old classic headline from the Autumn of 1993....... The Daily Express (I think) ran a two page spread of our glorious victory in Munich, with the headline, "Tweet as a Nut"!
  17. Could hardly call Iwan a defender could you - take another look at Saturday''s defensive display from the big man!!! In answer to your question, in recent times Andy Linighan got a few, but I would guess maybe someone like Malky
  18. Unsworth may have regained form, but has been made a final 1 year contract offer, which he has turned down. Thus he has been given permission to talk to any club he chooses, and has publicly stated that he expects to leave Goodison. Everton hvae said that they will review the situation again in the summer if he hasn''t moved on. The only drawback with Unsy would be his missus - she''s already made him leave West Ham after a season, then Villa after a month because she was homesick for Liverpool.......kind of restricts his options, doesn''t it? Tranmere Rovers, is it?
  19. Maybe Mr Crooks was just upset with us for not beating Everton!!! I am married to an Evertonian, and can assure you that the BBC don''t much like them either, so were probably banking on us causing an upset and giving them another reason to have a pop at Everton.
  20. Yes - I was there, and the taunting was directed at Rooney and was ''you fat b**tard'' - some evertonians misheard the word fat as black, because it was just as Yobo was getting booked for a foul. There was no racist chanting, I can assure you.
  21. Not to mention that he is naturally left-footed and takes a mean corner........
  22. now that it has become clear just how far the board are prepared to go to offer us our dream, and that Huckerby, after everything, is just another greedy player, let''s turn our attention to other potential signings. I''ll start the ball rolling....... David Unsworth - out of contract at Everton in the summer, and has just turned down a new one Nick Barmby - not unlike Huckerby, is currently rotting in a Premiership team''s reserves Chris Marsden - has just been told he won''t be getting a new contract at Southampton any comments?
  23. Not a bad suggestion, but maybe slightly beyond our means - he was being touted around earlier this season with a £1.5m price tag....... On another note, how about Nick Barmby instead? We could see similar things from him as from Hucks, and with the financial poo that Leeds are in, we could get him for a song.....
