1. I said it on another thread, and i''ll say it again. When Boothroyd first took Watford up they did not play ''hoofball'', they played some excellent football, and used the wings superbly. Ashley Young and Chris Eagles on the wings ripped most teams apart in that first season, and having a fast but not particularly good in the air striker such as Marlon King meant they couldn''t play long balls all the time. In fact, i''d go as far as to say that they played the best football of any side i saw that season when they came to Carrow Road and beat us 3-2. Fair enough, it switched to hoofball when he lost Eagles, Young and King, but it''s hardly his fault that the Watford board didn''t give him the money to replace them. he had to make do with what he had then, and it all went downhill from there. If he came to Norwich he''d inherit a small squad, both in numbers and stature, who have the potential to play some decent stuff with the ball on the floor. There''s no logic whatsoever in suggesting that he''d make us play ''hoofball'', in those circumstances. Thankfully, not all managers are as stuck in their way as our previous one.
2. I''m amazed how ready you lot are to believe something that you''ve read on the Daily Mail''s website. This is newspaper talk, nothing more. Hardly gospel writ now, is it? Calm down, people.
3.
Roeder''s main fault as a manager was in failing to win games.
I''d call that a pretty major fault in a manager, personally. And you can talk about the lack of money all you like. But lack of money is no excuse for the constant tactical mistakes. He could''ve done much better with what he did get given, and hopefully the next manager will prove it. Playing people in their favoured position would be a start.
4. No one is saying the board haven''t made huge mistakes in the past... But, today, they''ve done exactly what was required. Fair play to them. And with no one knocking on the door to buy them out, what good will protesting do right now, other than to stir things up at a time when the fans need to get behind the players and the new manager? Obviously, it''s impossible for Delia et al to grab a time machine, go back and out all their mistakes right, but hopefully this is the first step towards them attoning for their previous poor decisions. With no potential buyer on the horizon, i''m willing to give them one last chance to put things right by appointing the right man.
5. Boothroyd playing ''hoofball'' is such a myth. The Watford side he constructed on a shoe-string budget was capable of playing direct football when the need arose, but on a lot of occasions, especially when he first took over and got them promoted, they played some lovely stuff too. He built a side full of fast, skillful players (the likes of King and Ashley Young, who all went on to much better things and can obviously play decent football) who had a bit of fight about them, because that''s what is required in this division. Anyone remember when they came to Carrow Road and beat us 3-2? They were excellent, probably the best side i saw at CR that season and i remember a lot of people agreeing after the game. And hell, even if you lot believe that everything i''ve written above is a load of nonsense, why judge the guy on his one managerial job to date? Just because he supposedly played ''hoofball'' at Watford doesn''t mean he''ll always do it. The players he''ll have here are different, so why expect him to necessarily play the same style? Not every manager is as arrogant and set in their way as Roeder was, thankfully... ..Or maybe i''ve just been infected by optimism, and he''ll actually be useless. But he can''t do any worse, i reckon, hoofball or not. :op
6. ''24,000 home crowds who still try to cheer the team on despite the current cr*p served up!'' But... and let''s be honest here, are those 24,000 really trying? Because it doesn''t sound, as of late, that many of them really are, in my opinion. That''s the whole point of the original post. I don''t remember reading anywhere on this thread that anyone was implying the lack of noise isn''t particularly justified. But a few years ago simply having the justification to whinge and moan yet hardly sing wasn''t enough. We still had a superb atmosphere at Carrow Road, something we''re currently lacking...
7. How is he talking bollocks? Just because you don''t like what he''s saying doesn''t mean he isn''t making a valid point. Carrow Road is very, very quiet these days. It''s a simple enough fact to accept.
8. Don''t be obtuse, Ricardo, you''re better than that. No one has said it''s ''all the fans fault''. He''s just making the point that too few fans seem bothered about offering their support and getting behind the lads during the match. It''s a valid point, too.
9. Although i understand, and share, a lot of the frustration amongst the fans, you''ve certainly got a point, albeit, not a particularly popular one! The Premier season has definitely changed our attitude as fans. Christ, some of the comments on this board are ridiculous. As you say, people wanting us to lose, people hoping we go down, people planning protests and going to games to have a nice moan and spend most of the match booing rather than getting behind the side, and ''loyal fans'' boycotting matches because we''re not winning. Maybe it''s all the Johnny-come-latelys who jumped up on the bandwagon after the playoff season, but some people do seem to have very short memories. Yes, it''s rubbish at the moment, the worst that i can remember, certainly, but our home support is dire at the moment. When we spent those couple of seasons narrowly escaping relegation from this division after our original relegation from the Premier the fans got behind the boys and the support from the 15,000 or so there was always absolutely fantastic. The 24,000 who turn up now just don''t seem bothered. It''s a real shame, and must have an affect on the players. The worst comment that keeps getting thrown about, in my view, is that we ''deserve'' to be in the Premier because we have high attendances every game. That''s the sort of garbage Leeds fans come out with, and the sort of stuff that made us ridicule Wolves fans a few years back. It''s a travesty that we''ve gone that way too. That said, i do, vehemently, think that Roeder should go. We''re awful at the moment, as anyone with functioning braincells, and eyes, can see. But whilst the boys are on the pitch i will always get behind them. It''s a real shame more people don''t.
10. Of course we would. We''ve seen what the team is capable of doing on it''s day, now we need to find someone who can make them reach that potential a bit more frequently. Roeder is the most tactically inept manager i''ve ever seen.
11. I should probably clarify that the ''moron'' comment was in reply to his ''spitting'' comment, and not the rest of the post.
12.
Delia, MWJ and Doncaster have led us to the brink of disaster. Truly dreadful. Next time I see that smug twat Doncaster outside the Carra before a game I am going to spit in his face.
Moron.
13. Not every manager in the game is as tactically inept as Roeder, CT. It''s not rocket science, right? Get in a manager who actually plays players in their preferred position and who doesn''t switch to 4-5-1 when we''re losing 1-0 and we''ll probably do a damn sight better than we currently are, money or no money. Do some people not get it?
14. I''d love to see Aidy and Malky here.
15. 1. Zema Abbey 2. Chris Brown (Credit to him for turning it around at Preston, but dear God he was awful here, in my opinion) 3. Keith Briggs 4. Derveld 5. Fozzy But there''s so many to choose from!
16. But we do have better players, Barclay Boy. It''s just a shame our inept manager consistently refuses to play them.
17. I know Sanchez and Robson are hopless, but personally i''d rather have Gordon the soddin'' Gopher in charge than Roeder. Can''t see McClaren dropping down to this level, personally. The simple fact that he was once England manager (despite that being a particularly shocking decision from the FA) means his stock is worth far more than that...
18. I know it''s a game of opinions, if you''ll excuse the cliche, but i fail to see how anyone can still think Roeder is a capable manager. His utterly useless man-management, the constant picking of his favourites, the playing people out of position, the failure to pick his best 11 or even have any idea of what his best 11 is, his squandering of the little cash we do have, his arrogance, his ineptitude in dealing with the media, his constantly naming not a single recongised striker in the starting 11, his consistently contradicting himself, and his track record speak for itself. The man is utterly hopeless. He quite clearly hasn''t got a clue what he''s doing. Seriously, those of you saying we should stick with him, what is that based on other than blind faith? Honestly, what is it that you lot have seen in the man that everyone else is missing? I mean that as a serious question, i want to know, maybe i''m missing something here!
19. As i said on the other Hukcerby thread recently, why is it that some people think we''re limited to one song per game? We can applaud Hucks before the game and THEN support the current team once the game has started. The two aren''t mutually exclusive for gods sake. Any excuse to moan, eh?
20. Well, i for one am glad he''s finally getting a sending off, and will give him the applause he deserves for his excellent service to the club. A superb player, and a thoroughly nice bloke too, which is a rarity itself these days. I wouldn''t worry about it unduly Fuglestad, some people will whinge and moan about anything and everything.
21.
I was on Look East in September, I was refereeing behind Sir Trevor Brooking at our school. Was a very fun experience [:D]
What school was that? Trevor was at the school i work at to award us an FA Charter in September..
22. And what, exactly, is stopping you from singing ''Leroy, Leroy'' for the 90 minutes? I wasn''t aware that we were limited to one song per match. Though judging from some sections of the crowd, maybe i''m wrong. Christ, applaud and thank Huckerby for his remarkable service to the club, then, when the game actually starts, get behind the lads. Hardly rocket sience now, is it?
23. As if any denial from the club would be taken seriously by any of you. It''d just be more ''proof'' of how they''re all just evil, lying, fraudulent swine who''re only out for themselves and want to run the club into the ground at our expense, wouldn''t it? As for the positives, well, how about the potential signing of one of the best centre-backs outside the Premier in return for an overrated winger who fails to beat the first man with the majority of his crosses? I''d call that progress, personally.
24. You''d drop Croft on current form, then, Steve o? I doubt it, somehow. Unless you''re an idiot, of course.
