  1. Cripes, if we''re talking about next season''s team in the Championship, we''d probably better start talking about who we will buy when we next get promoted. No, seriously, can we get on with the business of getting relegated first please, there are a lot of games to lose before we can talk about next season. Don''t count your chickens and all that....
  2. DD, sure those things were said. But have you looked how many teams had a 15+ goal scorer in the Prem last season? Not many (about 6 wasn''t it?). And us, second highest scorers in the 1st Div with only one player over 10 goals. If others in the team keep scoring too, does it matter? I think its overly simplistic to say you need two prolific scorers and not much else. We showed last season that it aint necessarily so.
  3. "basic but for a massive £8m" Can you enlighten us on what you think such a stand should cost then please? Or do you think we should have spent £12m on one that had fancy brickwork and comfy lounges for the away fans? Are you saying the construction isn''t quality? Do you think there are problems with it then, or are you talking about cosmetic quality? And how come Ipswich spent £25m on two (was it?) stands then? Are they top quality? Cos a fat lot of good it did them in the Prem, and now they sit mostly empty. What''s your point?
  4. The thing is, Worthy clearly feels that Helveg is the better bet over Edworthy. Its all very well for us to diss Helveg cos Man U managed to put two (good goals, not errors from us - see Palace v Everton!!) past us. Who can know whether Edworthy would have kept Giggs in his pocket. I''m willing to bet he wouldn''t have done any better... nor would/will half the RBs in the Prem this season. That''s why Giggs is such a great player. If he was English he''d be an automatic starter on the left for England. The real time to judge the players is not on how they fare against the Prem''s best, but against the Prem''s average, surely? Conversely, the way Hux played against Neville and Keane makes me wonder whether he couldn''t do a job for England on the left...?
  5. I was in the pub and it felt like we had Won in the end. if Some of our players looked second best to theirs , that''s because they are ! Superb Performance against a top 3 club. i felt really proud today, this is what it''s all about . And were still not in the bottom 3!!
  6. I like your logic ;-) If I recall from an interview with him, Harewood was pretty disenchanted last season because Pardraw stuck him out wide right mostly, when he really wants to be up front. I doubt we will spend 2m on one player though, but if we could get him for under 1m it sounds plausible. And of course, Harewood and Huckerby have played together before at Forest for 3 months... and to good effect I recall. Ama
  7. HertYid, that''s just the point. What you call ''sh**e'' is what we aspire to at the moment - i.e. playing at a level that secures our Prem status. So the player we''re getting from you might not be world-class, and he might not help a team win the title. But if he can do a job for us, and improves and strengthens our squad then great. How many of the Norwich squad would you want in your team anyway? I bet you''d say none. As for those like Rich saying we should be going after this and that player. Yeah fine, that''s great, but it assumes we can afford the player and crucially that he wants to come here. For all we know, Worthy has tried to get those players, tried to get dozens of players who have turned us down or demanded unreasonable wages. So its all very well ''we should buy Petit''... but we can''t.... so what next? Buy the best players we can afford. After the Primus episode... nothing against the guy, but he clearly didn''t want to come and play for Norwich. Which is fine, but also I''d rather have players who do, it counts for a lot when we''re going to be struggling....
  8. No, can''t tell you, but I''ll bet they''ll nearly all be full internationals and top quality players. Does facing Giggs and Smith up front make things any easier than v Nistelrooy and Saha? Its a bit academic really isn''t it, all this talk of being a good time to play them. Let''s face it, this always was and still is one of the hardest fixtures of the season. There''s no pressure on us because we''re not expected to get anything from it. The fans and the players need to just go out there and enjoy it, and see what happens. This is what we worked all last season for! Ama
  9. We had a worrying lack of pace at the back last season, but it didn''t stop us having the best defence in the league. We may have had a worrying lack of height against Palace, but how many goals did we actually concede from set pieces... none! People should stop worrying!
  10. From today''s evening news... does this answer your concerns? "I see him as a centre-half with the capability in the short term of playing up front," said Worthington. "If the question is ''Does he fill both roles as a defender and a striker?'' then the answer is no. "I find him first and foremost as a centre-half but he can do a job for us up front for a couple of games if needs be, for example through loss of form or injuries. "He''s got Premiership experience, he''s an international, he''s at the lovely age of 24 and he wants to come to Norwich City, which is a big thing for me." Meanwhile, Worthington''s search for a big target man continues apace with the transfer deadline looming on August 31.
  11. Rich: "Why should we take their cast offs?". Well we are happy with Man City''s cast off (Hux), AC Milan''s cast-off (Helveg), Bolton''s cast-off (Charlton) and so on! And Pride of London: "Doherty can defend. He will put his head where it hurts. He won''t shirk a challenge. He will also pop up with the odd goal- I have not seen many better headers of the ball around." Erm, sounds a bit like Malky then, who is a current full Scotland international is he not!!! Ama
  12. Its funny, because people in Norwich have been slagging off Svensson, Henderson, Malky etc over the past few months. There are few players that are universally acclaimed by their clubs'' fans, it seems par for the course. Remember some Manc fans didn''t rate Huckerby at all, but under a different manager, with perhaps a different system or style of play.... Maybe Spurs fans'' expectations are different, somehoe higher. For us, finishing in the league where Spurs did last season, in part thanks to Doherty, would be a major achievement. I think they''re thinking more of world-class players and anything less is a donkey. Well, that''s my most optimistic outlook on it anyway. Fact is, we need to see how he is before we judge.
  13. Look at it this way, imagine what the current team could do in the Championship, given what last year''s did. And that''s the key. We take the money and go down stronger. We come up again, strengthen again and then have a better chance of staying up. All us committed fans know that you have to be in it for the long term, the board know that, the manager knows that. Let the bandwagoners moan and jump off again, that''s fine.
  14. Look at it this way: he made 22 appearances for Spurs last season, in a team that managed to stay up despite being very poorly managed. If he makes 22 appearances in a team this season that manages to stay up, I''ll drink to that. He''s a full international in a decent international side. He''s young enough to give us a good few years of service and sounds like a good long-term investment. If Spurs fans are laughing, they''d better be careful the last laugh isn''t on them. Nigel has a track record for taking misfit players and turning them into stars. Ama
