  1. For what it is worth, I think this must take the Graham Paddon''s Beard "How Far Can We Take A Thread Off Topic" Award for February. It starts with a comment about 5 up front, passes through how many baked beans you can get on a plate, a tear jerkingly wonderful patching up of differences between two old stagers. We are then treated to a carefully put together argument about how any football prior 2003 was rubbish. Great Stuff, one and all. And with some Shakespeare thrown in!
  2. Following on from the Superstition thread...keep it up !
  3. My mate Bury Yellow and I have what we call "One Cheek" syndrome. Put simply whatever you are doing when you are at home and City score, you must continue to do this for the rest of the game. If , as has been suggested by BY you are sitting awkwardly (you have for some reason shifted onto "one cheek" you must remain in this uncomfortable position. I am happy to report it still works. Padding nervously about the house yesterday I briefly sat on my sons bed watching Sky when Holt equalised. I didn''t move a muscle, and Hey Presto we scored again. Same thing happened the other night with the Walsall game. It doesn''t work at Carrow Road, only when you are not at the game. Pathetic really isn''t it!!!!
  4. I''m waiting for Tony...This week he will be sharing his expertise on the 2 3 5 formation of the 1950''s. I, for one , can''t wait.
  5. It''s a good point Purple...I think Tommy was from (dare I say it) Suffolk! so you may well be right about him not reffing competitive matches....I wonder if anyone can find out about the referees? I was my Dad that said it was Motherwell.
  6. Many thanks BY. The plot thickens somewhat with a glance at the trusted Canary Citizens. It tells of a Texaco Cup semi final against Motherwell in March 1973, and a 2nd round Texaco match in October 1973 (the following season). It doesn''t however mention a friendly although some seem to remember there being one around this time. Beard senior recalls me going (it was around this time I was cast out from the Beard family home due to my turning to the light and away from the Dark Side.
  7. I''m trying to pinpoint a game played either in the Texaco Cup or a friendly. The Key is that Tommy Dawes was the ref...a friend of my fathers who took me to the game, and it could well have been my first at Carrow Road. Can any one help please?
  8. Canary Citizens . Massively factual book came out in 1986 but I think it might have been updated. Good for anoraks (like me!). By John Eastwood and Mike Davage.
  9. Hoff said "and he went on his way to Hull for a medical but Hull decided not to sign Hoolahan" So... we agreed a fee, Hula''s agent agreed presonal terms (in principle), and Wes went to Hull, BUT half way up the motorway Hull pulled out. OR perhaps Wes just went up the for a random medical. I think you might be mistaken either way Hoff.
  10. Might be worth checking out our March fixtures. Tough month.
  11. Yes SC. Hard to imagine that there were no offers for Hula Hoop or Holt. As you say, Doomy would have made case to accept the bids and then trotted out some dross about how you can''t keep a player that wants to go. Well, as we have seen, first you create an environment where players are happy to stay. Then you rebuke the bids (or make it known that no bids will be welcome). We are a different club under McNasty that''s for sure.
  12. Thanks Angel. I''ve just been described as a "window licker" on another psot (not that I have any idea what that means) so any form of agreement is welcome.
  13. Well I stand corrected Nexus Canary. I must be a "Window Licker". Perhaps when you have some spare time you could let me  know what that means. I obviously don''t move in your social circles.
  14. Tony is related to someone at Radio Norfolk. Its the only explanation. Why dont we put a levy on "Foreign" players wasn''t it? He was on for 5 minutes. We were hoping to drive off the road at Thetford to stop us having to listen to him.
  15. I think someone on here a while back showed some stats to say that 90 pts has always been enough. So in fact we need 9 wins from our last matches.
  16. I can confirm that Dan Hawkins of the Darkness is a City Fan, although he now lives in Brighton....
  17. I was there at Gresty Road, and also attended the last game at Readings old stadium that was mentioned earlier. There were quite a few "invasions" that day and I remember the Readings fans being unexpectedly nasty; I was too chicken to get on the pitch after. Protest is sometimes a good thing. Throughout our history I think the "voice of the fans" has lead to changes; and I have to say that those two guys getting on the pitch must have contirbuted to McNasty''s decision after the horrific Colchester game. Sadly I''m not brave enough myself so I would happily buy them a beer. If they get banned I''m sure someone would have a spare ticket from time to time.
  18. And Leeds have found new and improved ways to snatch defeat from certain promotion over the last few years so it is worth a good chuckle for the Beeb. Frankly who gives a monkies?
  19. I did notice he did walk off the pitch very quickly after the game today...hopefully he was after some racing results! (Please ignore this as I do not have 13,000 posts.)
  20. In a word of the modern parlance....Deffo.
