  1. Snorefolk suggests we are letting Brum have possession as some kind of deliberate tactic - why...why would we do that?
  2. It is so disheartening when the opposition's attempts on target total matches their goal tally. Like the first two league matches, so much good work and effort up front cheaply thrown away in simple goals against.
  3. I was looking at those massive player murals on Saturday and thought they could become a bit embarrassing if those guys end up with the reputation of RVW. Afterall, he would've been up there in 2011, wouldn't he?
  4. I liked McCallum too. He looked positive and confident and not tainted by the misery of relegation. Some decent passes, link up play and pace too. Needs some cover though if Dimi is out.
  5. So many shots taken right footed across the goal from the right hand side of the box, going just wide. Such a waste. Always curling away from the post. Three or four of them now. A tactic? No-one gets near them. Are they passes across to the back post? This match would.look totally different if those efforts were used properly.
  6. As Andy Gray used to say on Sky Sports..."He had NO RIGHT to score from there" Just slung a boot at it and we let it happen.
  7. WTF is this? Quarter of an hour gone. Not promoted yet. Smith out! Mountaineer Out! The other Smith Out!
  8. Still got Sideshow Sargent and, for my money, I think he has a good chance of shining bright next season. He won't score many but he will make things happen up front with his workrate, effort, pace etc. Discussing him reminds me of conversations I used to have with a mate about Heskey playing for England. He just didn't get it, but Heskey was a right royal PITA and created more than he scored. I really liked how Sargent created that second goal against Cambridge by anticipating a pass, sliding in to cut it out and quickly passing to Hugill. Yes, it was Cambridge, yes, they were tiring, yes, the keeper's pass was poor but it gave me enough of a glimmer of hope for him this season. It's the hope that kills you though, isn't it?
  9. What on God's Great Earth are these all about? The best gauge of a player is the conversation around whether he can do it at Stoke on a wet Tuesday evening in January.
  10. Wonderful. The era of 'Ron Manager' is the one I grew up with. Honest football men who managed for years without winning anything or very little but were not worried about getting the sack because The S*n has published the OPTA stats that his team has only scored an average of 0.325 goals in the period between 56 and 63 minutes of the last 6 matches when they have played teams below the 49th parallel. On a Thursday morning. In June. Bill Nick, Alec Stock, Dave Sexton, Ron Greenwood plus so many more. Football wasn't always about winning every week...God, I am starting to sound like Ron...time for an Ovaltine and bed, isn't it? Marvellous. Sad to see the thread about the final publication of a Football 'Pink' too.
  11. I love this forum because it is like the group of mates in the pub. You will get to know those who are savvy about different aspects of the club or game, those who will insist that Antoine Sibierski will 'come good for us', those who understand the finances, those who remember Bunny Larkin's shorts and those who are just happy to listen etc. Twitter and IG are different and, when they work well, are like the days when you saw or heard something funny or incisive on the terraces from a stranger. If you were stood near utter bellends, you moved - or nowadays, block them or just do not read threads. I like the option to pick and choose my Social Media but this forum beats everything hands down for conversation and sensible opinion. Yes, there are some irritants but there are also similar kinds of people in your group in the pub or your family you may chat with. Their opinion is different and they believe in it just as much as we believe in our own. The best thing is - there is a lot of mutual respect on here and usually very little that flares up in terms of offensiveness or true spats. (Yes, I know we have them - but this is nothing in relation to the nastiness and bile from Twitter pile-ons) The posters on here are generally how Nat Lofthouse used to describe his hardest opponents... "There were plenty of fellers who would kick your **** off. The difference was that at the end they'd shake your hand and help you look for them."
  12. Thank fu(k for this. At least the tvvat who sits behind me can't keep trotting out the desperate attempt to make his mate laugh by repeatedly calling him 'Les Mellor' every five f(cking minutes. The sooner terraces come back, the better.
  13. Yes, I expected some kind of gloating thread about 'that' match in '95 - but I guess he didn't make much of an effort that day...
  14. Not interested in balls until they bring back this bad boy...
