Bradwell canary 112 Posted February 1, 2014 Primary Urban Areas in England ordered by population. 2001 censusWe are listed at 48th in the country!! So for a relative small city in national terms I for one think how lucky we are to have a Premiership Club.Leeds are 5th, and look what another fine mess they are in.Its time we got real, and be a bit thankful for what we have
Norfolk Mustard 106 Posted February 1, 2014 Good reality check! Where are Swansea on that list?
djc 0 Posted February 1, 2014 Swansea was 1st.It is outside england, is full of welsh speaking leek eating people, but most of all the motd presenters love Swansea more than everywhere else and so for that reason alone that must be right!* p.s : I made it all up. Swansea was 2nd, Ipswich was actually the top place although it resembles (in both appearance and smell) a numer two *
wcorkcanary 4,781 Posted February 1, 2014 Would be v interesting to see that same table with say liverpool /sheffield/bristol /nottingham/ birmingham etc divided by the number of teams those cities have. We''d still be .as ever , punching above our weight.OTBC
Mr Brownstone 0 Posted February 1, 2014 I didn''t miss ''Little Old Norwich''.
Juggy 0 Posted February 1, 2014 It is flawed, the ''Primary Urban Area'' of Norwich has a population of just 140,000.The built up area is 213,166. If you consider places like Thorpe Marriott, Trowse and New Costessey to be outside of Norwich then your data would be correct, but 48th is based on a near ancient boundary. There are also several major rugby clubs within half an hours drive of Leeds City centre, and you won''t find much countryside between Leeds and Bradford.A better study would divide population of the county and divide by number of professional teams. West Yorkshire would come out worse than Norfolk by the time you have divided 2.16 million between:Bradford CityLeeds UnitedHuddersfieldHalifaxLeaves about half a million per professional club, before considering rugby teams and the major cricket team based in Headingly (Leeds). Norfolk has 850,000 people to split between 1 major football team, 0 major rugby teams, and 0 major cricket teams.
Mr.Carrow 394 Posted February 1, 2014 It`s irrelevant. The area officially classed as "Norwich" does not include most of the suburbs. The fact is the City is the focal point of a population of about 1 million people in Norfolk and N.Suffolk....which is why our support is way bigger than many give us credit for. Number of professional football teams in South Yorkshire is 5. Population of Norfolk is 850,000. Number of professional teams in South Yorkshire is 1. Teams all over the country are probably hugely envious of our massive monopoly on sports in a big county.
Juggy 0 Posted February 1, 2014 "It`s irrelevant. The area officially classed as "Norwich" does not include most of the suburbs"Exactly. There are actually about 350,000 people within a 15 minute drive of Norwich.
Mr.Carrow 394 Posted February 1, 2014 Le Juge, it`s amazing how many people are unaware of these things. Now let`s try Greater Birmingham- population 2.9m, six professional football clubs (includes Coventry), plus cricket, speedway, ice hockey, kabadee :) etc....So roughly 500k each plus a lot more competition from other sports. Mr.Carrow 394 Posted February 1, 2014 It bores me to keep having to repeat it! But unfortunately this kind of misinformation is incredibly widespread and does affect peoples idea of what sort of club we have.A West Brom fan was belittling us at my work the other day saying how well we were doing considering Norfolk has a population of "About 200,000". I told him to google it....let`s just say he`s changed his tune slightly :)

Errrr, number of professional teams in s yorkshire = 1!Wednesday, Utd, Rotherham, Barnsley and Doncaster are ALL s. Yorkshire.
Juggy 0 Posted February 1, 2014 Rather of pedantic of you to point out that mistake City2nd, seeing as I quite clearly state: "Number of professional football teams in South Yorkshire is 5", and was obviously supposed to write Norfolk.
Juggy 0 Posted February 1, 2014 The most ridiculous thing is that the poster lives right on the edge of the county near to Great Yarmouth and should therefore know this himself.
Yorkshire Canary 118 Posted February 1, 2014 Leeds are a city club we are a county one, population 800 000 up 300000 on 30 years ago
JF 694 Posted February 1, 2014 So small populated area affects footballers ability to pass, cross and keep a football?
Reggie Strayshun 0 Posted February 1, 2014 Interesting, but not terribly relevant, tbh.If you are going for underperforming, then Bristol is in the top 8 population centres in England, and it''s quite likely that, next season, it''ll have two Lge 2 clubs only ! BarclayWazza 93 Posted February 1, 2014 All of this means next to zero as what it affects is the attendances in the ground and merchandising. By claiming we should consider ourselves lucky you ignore the fact that we have the 14th highest average attendance in the league which as it directly affects our 2nd biggest revenue stream means your argument is flawed.Secondly F*** OFF with this "we should just be happy to be here" nonsense. Complete lack of ambition from some of our fans. You deserve a relegated club.
Juggy 0 Posted February 1, 2014 He could go and support that county team which thrives on mediocrity in Suffolk, can''t remember what they are called.
