ncfcstar 342 Posted June 13, 2012 If anyone hasn''t seen this, then it is HUGE news for the future of the league, and staying up is more important than ever next season. Sky and BT will be sharing the games (116 for Sky, 38 for BT), but the big news is the money. The rights raised just over £3bn, and increase of £1.2BN on what was agreed a few years ago! This has wide ranging affects for the league, and definitely eases worries for the big clubs on FFP, but it just means that gap between the Championship and PL will widen even further. Staying up next season is absolutely vital if we want to compete in the future, the amount of money floating around the PL is ridiculous.

"""""""""Ben """"""""""" 0 Posted June 13, 2012 I think the overseas Premier League tv rights are up for negotiation soon as well, which would bring in even more money for clubs.
Fozzie 0 Posted June 13, 2012 Is there a rule that TV income has to be shared equally, or is it possible that they could make the final position rewards much more lucrative for top 4/6 finishes?
Downloads 35 Posted June 14, 2012 We just have to stay up this season, with our financial prudence, that expanded stadium could happen a lot more quickly with this huge increase in revenues. One season of this increased money could set us right for a few years to come!

PurpleCanary 6,378 Posted June 14, 2012 From David Conn in The Guardian today, on how this deal won''t automatically mean big profits for clubs:Yet while BSkyB has made its owners hugely rich, the clubs themselves have mostly struggled just to break even throughout their 20-year bonanza. In 2010-11, eight of the 20 clubs made a profit while 12 – 60% – recorded losses. Principally that is because players – "the product," as their more blunt-speaking agents describe them – have ensured their wages escalate with every swelling of the TV pot. This season we got £45m I believe and it''s guesstimated we''ll get about £63m this coming season. That''s a huge increase for us and hopefully it just means that we clear our debts quicker/build up the stadium quicker/have more money for Hughton and transfers/get Grant another year;) lol

That seems way too high. I imagine our TV money will be very close to the £45m we got this last season.

York Canary 29 Posted June 14, 2012 My apologies - I meant the season AFTER next i.e 2013-14.And that figure is from the news article on pinkun homepage and a few others
Son Ova Gunn 165 Posted June 14, 2012 If we stay up next season the new deal will give us an even greater advantage over clubs in the championship and below, however it will do nothing to make us more financially competitive in our own league, as all the other teams recieve the same boost. we may finally be able to offer the types of wages required to bring in the next calibre of player we want but by then £25-£30k per week will be dwarfed still by other similar sized clubs.doesnt matter if the sky deal is £1million or £10billion, doesnt effect our competitiveness, only by improving our own finances can we secure our long term future at the top league. The ground expansion may come sooner with the extra money, this would help, but as soon as we are out of debt, we will presumable have to borrow immediately to built it, back to square one with a higher turnover if we agree to pay it back in an obsurdly short timeframe again (its not the debt now thats damaging us, every other club has one too, its being force to pay it off in 24 months). City penguin 0 Posted June 14, 2012 exactly, this boost if we stay up will make ground redevelopment even more affordable. Which will in turn allow us to compete with the likes of Villa, Sunderland, Everton over the long term.
blahblahblah 2 Posted June 14, 2012 Considering there''s all this new money sloshing around next year, do you think Grant Holt and his agent would be better off re-negotiating in a years time ?
Son Ova Gunn 165 Posted June 14, 2012 Thinking about it further, you could even argue that this announce increase in TV revenue is going to make the difficult task of survival next season even more diffcult and has somewhat disadvantaged us more. There are what, 10 teams who will go into next season without either the fear of relegation or the need to budget for it. These teams, knowing the extra money is going to start in 12 months time can now start altering the wages they offer to potential players, this season. There are also those clubs which have a saftey net in the form of wealthy owners who can also do the same knowing that should their gamble not pay off their owner will pick up the tab and you can imagine the likes of Reading, Saints and some others budgeting with this money in mind knowing if the gamble fails to pay off, the tab will get picked up by their benefactors.
