Syteanric 1 Posted December 14, 2011 With Lambert saying he hasnt ruled out looking abroad and with his contacts in Germany who could we be looking at? who would you want?German engineering and German efficiency... both could push us into a force to be reckoned with for the rest of the season.... lake district canary 0 Posted December 14, 2011 Do you not think we are a force to be reckoned with now? Any new players will strengthen the squad, but there are no guarentees German, or any other player for that matter, will settle to the pace of the premiership straight away - and we will need players who can come straight in and do a job, German or not. BarclayCanary (Former HDDH) 0 Posted December 14, 2011 LDC stop moaning he simply asked a question and Lambert has mentioned he may go into foreign lands.I have no idea who we could sign as i dont pay attention to foreign leagues if i am honest.

Lets be aving you! 0 Posted December 14, 2011 "With Lambert saying he hasn''t ruled out looking abroad and with his contacts in Germany who could we be looking at?" That French playmaker Sarko (diminutive, all Gallic flicks and savoir faire) could pair up pretty well with a certain German big-hitter I''ve see by the name of Merkel (dour, combative-type enforcer). Best not get into too much debt, though, you know how these Continental types can land you in enough of that to last a lifetime. No chance of anyone from the Portuguese, Italian, Greek or Spanish ("PIGS") leagues, though. Would only encourage Holty to up the pie intake again. Crofts and Benno might need to worry because if all else fails I could see up really El Supremo getting someone in on the far right.

Norfolk Mustard 106 Posted December 14, 2011 Per Mertesacker took a few games to get going at Arsenal - I doubt we can''t afford anyone the same luxury?

There''s nothing like a bit of mindless euroscepticism, is there? Makes you proud to be British (What-what!)You are a wit. Back to the post: A number of names have been thrown around recently. That Norwegian striker for Hannover (Mohammed ... something) looks interesting, as well as the guy at Moscow. The Norwegian strikes me as the most interesting. From what I can tell, he combines physicality (ie height and some power) with pace and finishing. I''m trying to utilise some of the contacts I''ve made in Germany to find out about him. Will tell all if I hear anything interesting. Regardless of what any of us think, if Lambert and Culverhouse are to keep to type, then it will probably be somebody none of us have ever heard of before who ends up as the next Zidane- but with more hair. Bethnal Yellow and Green 2,424 Posted December 14, 2011
Per Mertesacker took a few games to get going at Arsenal - I doubt we can''t afford anyone the same luxury?
Are you suggesting we don''t add any new players at all? It usually takes any new players a few games to settle into a new team - especially if they play in a style such as Arsenal''s.
lake district canary 0 Posted December 14, 2011 At the risk of being told I''m moaning again, I think that if PL gets anyone in it will be more of a squad player who can come in perhaps later in the season once he has had a chance to settle. I don''t think he will get anyone in who will go straight in to the team because - as Bethnal says, it usually takes afew games for a new player to settle in - and we can''t afford to have people in the team at this stage of the season who are settling in to, perhaps - a new country, a new team, the premiership, the ethos of the manager etc. etc.Thats not to say he won''t get anyone in from Germany or anywhere, but I don''t think we should expect to get a ''name'' player who will come in and walk straight into the team. Lets be aving you! 0 Posted December 14, 2011 I know he''s out of contract at the moment, but that guy Burlusconi could be worth a look. Past his prime, maybe, but knows where the box is and can certainly stick them away.

Rudolph Hucker 0 Posted December 14, 2011 I''d definately go for Frau Merkel as a replacement for Ruddy, she gives nothing away and if we pick up a couple of French centre-halves they will do exactly what she tells them to do.
smooth 114 Posted December 14, 2011 LDC I am sure Lambert mentions to all new potential signings that they are part of the squad and that a first team place is not guaranteed. But I would like to think we are looking at players that will be in contention of a starting place for most games rather than on the bench. It can take players a long time to settle wherever they come from, S. Jackson is a fine example, I don''t think championship players are anymore proven than European players in entering the premiership. We need some fresh blood, those that do not allow to put their heads down if things turn tough and believe that personal development and team development is key to success. Lambert can give you (as a player) that re-assurance if you follow the ethos. But I don''t think there is anybody who would say we don''t need anybody to come in. The last few weeks I think every position has been touted as an area where a new addition can be handy this and the following seasons. I do think we will look at an attacking player/ striker with J.V. out till February, midfield can be a place for that general and centre half well that has been regularly touted even from the beginning of the season. I am all for looking to Europe, there is no guarantee with any signing or player, hate to say it but they can be injured in their first training session and not put on a shirt for this season. But the more quality and quantity that believe in your ethos the better. I know we will look at positions and options that we feel we can fill this Jan. to make our task this season possibly easier. If Norwich add any players in January (which I''m sure they will) I would personally like to see people coming into the first team rather than more squad members. The squad is actually getting rather large, especially in defence where we have 5 CBs (6 if you include R. Martin) - this is fine at the moment with Ward out long term, but in the long run isn''t a sustainable situation. A striker is a possibility, but considering we have played with only one up front for a large part of the season I''m not sure if this will be a priority. Lambert seems to have a magic touch with transfers (S. Smith excluded) and he doesn''t spend the club''s money needlessly, going into the European market (or maybe even further afield) can provide a lot of value in the January scramble for players. I don''t pay much hedance to this ''Lambert''s contacts in Germany'' stuff, when you are a Premier League manager every agent is pretty much desperate to be your contact. star_manic 0 Posted December 14, 2011 given lamberts tendancy to get business done in the first few days of a transfer window does anyone believe that he has already got a couple of deals done, just waiting for 2nd jan for the anouncement? i would not be in the least suprised if this was so. No chance of Obama either, whom Signor Berlusconi described as "suntanned". Might not cope against Suarez or Terry.
pete 371 Posted December 14, 2011 What about a player from Wales I would really like to see Peter Whittingham, versatile player across the midfield but under contract until 2014.
Lambo 0 Posted December 15, 2011 I''d like to see Mario Mandzukic from Wolfsburg if Lambert is going to look at the Bundesliga, great all rould little striker who''s Croatian, would be great playing alongside one of Holt or Morison. Marco Reus would be my perfect choice but he''s starting to catch the eye of Bayern, the lad''s so quick. If we''re going to keep playing R.Martin at Centre Half then Andreas Beck to come in as Right Back would be a good addition, Hoffenhiem captain and Mr Consistant. In all honesty though for us to sign players that will improve our 1st 11 we''re going to be spending sums of money I don''t think we can afford.
drurys testamonials mark 6 0 Posted December 16, 2011 Don''t take it personaaly LDC. You know what some of this lot are like.I reckon Lambert will get in who he wants and not take any notice of our suggestions
