Smudger 0 Posted May 22, 2011 With unfortunate events for Birmingham City this afternoon, I am wondering whether Roger Johnson could be on Lambert''s shopping list this summer? With only a year left to run on his contact and Johnson having previously played under Lambert at Wycombe, I am wondering whether Lambert might be interested in tempting Birmingham and Johnson''s resolve with an offer this summer if he is to fancy adding another centre-half to our squad?Johnson signed a 3 year contract for Birmingham in the summer of 2009, when he signed from Cardiff for £5 million.I wonder how much it would cost to make Brum and Johnson get twitchy about him signing a new contract (if he hasn''t done so already)?I''m a big fan of Johnson and I wonder if this could be a possible name on Lambert''s summer shopping list? Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,629 Posted May 22, 2011 I''m one of many who suggested him in the ''Possibly Relegated Players'' thread. So yeah, plenty of admirers on this board. Would cost a fair bit I imagine, by our standards, but as I said when I mentioned him before, the centre back department is the one we need the most work on. SnakepitCanary 0 Posted May 22, 2011 He really is top quality but he has been linked with some big clubs in the past and I''m sure they will want him again. It would be nice to at least try and compete for signings like these though.
jed exodous 0 Posted May 22, 2011 Can see him going to someone like Newcastle or Villa or Everton. Hes a good player and i think he sort of knows it. Cant see that he''d consider us, nor that we could afford his wages. He''ll be expecting a big money move and a big wage.
Smudger 0 Posted May 22, 2011 How much do you think we could get him for, considering that he has only a year to run on a 3 year deal with Birmingham and they signed him for £5 million?I think we should keep tabs on him, as if he hasn''t signed a new deal for Brum or signed for somebody else by January then there could be a high probability that he could be moving on a cut price deal (especially if Brum aren''t looking like they are going to bounce straight back).I think that Brum might have to talk to anybody willing to pay £2.5 million for him? How many think that he is worth that though? Could we get better elsewhere for that kind of money?
Davo 0 Posted May 23, 2011 Smudger,For £2.5 Mill he would be a bargain, however what would he demand in wages? I fear even £20,000 could be too much for us.I agree that as well as Barnett, Ward and Whitbred have done this season we need to tighten up at the back. I just feel that Roger Johnson could be out of the range that Lambert will be willing to pay.Davo

The fee wont be the problem, it''ll be wages...
Yellow Wal 315 Posted May 23, 2011 Would love to see him here but I would imagine he would be the type of candidate to join Bolton after Cahill moves on.
paul moy 235 Posted May 23, 2011 He''ll probably go to a club such as Arsenal, so he''s financially out of our league.
Captain Fantastic 0 Posted May 23, 2011 What about Scott Dann? They''ve gone to pieces at the back since he''s been injured.
CRAZY LEGS 0 Posted May 23, 2011 him and scott dann will go to bigger clubs no chance
Muddy funster 0 Posted May 23, 2011 Sorry - forum police! Jed exodus and CD Mullins will not be happy about this post not being grouped together with the other relegated player threads - quick, hide!

Smudger 0 Posted May 23, 2011 Surely we are going to have to pay more than £20k per week in wages to several players over the next couple of years if we are serious about competing in this league? What was the limit per player that we put on our wage bill a few weeks back now? Was that £20k per week?I think that we should be looking to put a team that can compete together on as little as possible, but think that for one or two individuals you may have to pay slightly more than what you have set out. I am not saying that we should go for Johnson if his wage demands are excessive, but can''t really see him getting too many better offers. I am pretty sure that none of the major clubs will try to sign him and I would have thought that he would have been the type of calibre player that we should now be looking at if we want to improve further?Of course better and cheaper could possibly be picked up elsewhere, but having played under Lambert before and his contract likely to be up for renewal, I would have thought it would be worth the club sounding Johnson, his agent and Brum out??? I am a Banana 0 Posted May 23, 2011 Johnson also has a year of prem exp which is more than the majority of our current squad!!
Smudger 0 Posted May 24, 2011 Johnson actually has TWO YEARS of Premiership experience with Brum Nana and he has been pretty much an ever present for them since he signed for them.
