Jumpers for goalposts 0 Posted May 5, 2004 .......Sky news claims Iverson will be leaving Wolves this summer and credits his agent with the following quote "The club we''re talking to are in the premiership NEXT season". So are we to assume this mystery club are not CURRENTLY in the premiership ???? Us or West Brom then?Or has the feverish transfer speculation got me reading something into a quote that isn''t there?Personally I''m not sure about him - but what''s the concensus?By the way - hello to the message board for the first time, and what a GREAT time to be a city fan!! NMTD 0 Posted May 5, 2004 I sincerely hope its absolutely nothing to do with us.
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Jumpers for goalposts,My friend, can you read my thoughts??? About 30 seconds before seeing this thread I saw exactly the same thing in SkySports news and was about to come on here and say EXACTLY the same thing!! Not sure if Iverson''s agent isn''t that great with English and just got his words muddled up? Personally I wouldn''t really want him. Never made it in the Prem with Spurs or Wolves. Still can''t believe what a coincidence! Great minds obviously think alike
ZLF 335 Posted May 5, 2004 Noo - of all the names mentioned as possible targets Iversons name rightly never appeared and his is definitely in the not good enough camp - Jarvis over him EVERY time.He doesn''t fit Megsons mould as a striker, not tall enough or prepared to get stuck in illegally, so I can only assume it is NCFC though.Dont do it Nige!OTBC
Jonzey 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Iverson would be a mistake, I hope this is nothing to do with us!!!! Remember when we almost signed Iain Dowie? This would be worse!! (nothing against Dowie of course, he seems to be a good manager)
FatboySlimfast 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Looks like im about an hour late!! saw this as well on sky and straight away assumed it was either city or west brom. He had a good season an couple of years back for spurs but since then has been poor. He couldn''t do a job at wolves so why would we want him. I hope this isn''t the sort of player worthington is going to be going for this summer, theres better players to be had than people like Iverson.
no1canary 0 Posted May 5, 2004 http://skysports.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=201660&cpid=10apparently we are linked with a rangers striker aswell.have a look........
Jonzey 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Just checked out that link james. Like I said before, Iverson should be WIDELY avoided, but I''ve seen Avelardze play several times and he really stood out as a good striker. Not sure how he would fit in to Worthy''s plans or whether he is the type of striker we need. But a good player when I saw him last, which was a year ago at least.I''d like to begin a count of the players Norwich are linked with over the summer in the press. My bet is 73.Any others? Flick Fleck 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Man, I just read Jonzey''s message and nearly choked on my coffee with laughter at the memory of the Iain Dowie fiasco! I''d totally forgotten about that! Cheers Jonzey for the memory... Just imagine where we could be today if we had ever bought him? Errrm...Iverson seems to me like he would fit snugly into the long line of NCFC striking "legends" - Dean Coney, Darren Beckford, Robert Rosario, Keith Bertschin, Lee Power, Ade Akinbiyi, Henrik "The Viking" Mortensson, Efan Ekoku, Jamie Cureton. I reckon if you took their combined highest total of goals in a single season, then it would still be short of Henry''s tally this year!Sven, Hux and Super Mac for Premier Glory!! Plastic Scouser 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Hey Flick Fleck, don''t you go maligning the great keith Bertschin by lumping him in the same heap as Coney, Rosario, Mortenson etc. The man was a legend in his own shoelaces - he taught the continentals all there is to know about diving - except in Keith''s case, he was never diving, he just fell over a lot!
Flick Fleck 0 Posted May 5, 2004 No offence meant Plastic Scouser! And thanks for remembering how much he fell over. When I were a young lad growing up at Carrer Road we used to call him Keith Dirtbin becuase he always got his shirt muddy.
FatMan Fat 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Eeek!! Not Iverson, pleeeeease!!!
Jumpers for goalposts 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Fairly catergoric then! Lets hope it''s nothing more than a misquote from his Norwegian agent - But I''ve a feeling he is the sort of player we''ll be looking at, even if it doesn''t turn out to be us or we don''t actually sign him.Oh, and Dumbledelia - I''m thinking of a number between one and ten........ Steve White 24 Posted May 5, 2004 Glad we got it straight that Keith Bertschin is not to be included in the same gang as the others. On the subject of Iversen, he is actually a good player - unfortunately, he is always injured, and whilst on the subject of injuries, it is important that anyone who does sign has a good record in that department
Jumpers for goalposts 0 Posted May 5, 2004 Nope - it was 9. Iverson''s squad number next season!! (Just kidding, before everyone slaughters me......)
edward scissorhands 0 Posted May 6, 2004 you could put emile heskey upfront with a blindfold on, with his shorts around his ankles, listening to gareth gates greatest hits on an mp3 player and he''d still score more premiership goals than steffen iversen ever will!
Tacklebury 0 Posted May 6, 2004 In fact, Heskey might score more goals if he did that! Let''s face it, he can''t any other way.Maybe Steffen Iversen''s agent has heard good things about us from Carl Cort...
Karl Pilkington 0 Posted May 6, 2004 I think you just have to take these rumours with a pinch of salt.Because we are CHAMPIONS (OLE OLE OLE) we are going to be linked with every available carlos kicka ball going. Eventually they will be correct but I dont think worthy will sign anyone straight away. Wait at least a month for the first signing. As for this one, I really hope this is just speculation. Temp the Revelator 0 Posted May 6, 2004 My God, look again at the agents quote.......''in the premiership next season''Could this not mean as opposed to staying at Wolves, who won''t be in the premiership next season, rather than meaning us or West Brom?
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Without sounding harsh, maybe his English isn''t that hot? Whereas we would say something like "A Premiership club", he said "In the Premiership next year"? Us and West Brom aren''t the only clubs who will be in the Prem next year! Maybe he just meant that Iverson will be playing Prem football next year rather than 1st Division football with Wolves? Do I sound desperate for him not to come here!!!???
Dirty Lyle 0 Posted May 6, 2004 I really hope this rumour is more Carl Cort than Darren Huckerby. I dont think he would add anything to the squad. Between us and the Baggies he is more likely to go to them as he won''t have to relocate - or am I being too logical?BTW, I have been struggling since the mighty Clint was released (is terminated more appropriate?). Never again will the phrase "Even Clint could have done better than that!" be uttered. NW needs to give serious consideration to replacing the gaping hole in our squad.Fair play to Clint though, he was there when we needed him and had a decent season in the playoff year. Temp the Revelator 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Afternoon DL, don''t worry, I''m certain someone will step up to take his place, after all, there was Llewellyn before him......Shall we start our ''Sign McKenna'' campaign now, or leave it a few weeks?
Dirty Lyle 0 Posted May 6, 2004 Afternoon Temp, hope the trip back to Crewe was OK. I think I have inadvertantly started the Sign McKenna campaign in another thread. Having just got back to work from Sunderland though I have to say that their left winger (Sean Thornton I think) looked useful too and would perhaps be a better bet if Sunderland dont go up.
