[/quote] Ashton is a quality player and would have done well regardless of the manger/team etc. People don''t actually need other people to make improvement, for example at Uni there were a few units I did well in despite having poor lecturers, alot of my improvement and good grades were down to my hard work and I think its the same with Ashton. I personally think he would have been alot better under different management. [/quote] Almost everything that''s gone wrong over the last couple of seasons has, rightly, been blamed on Worthington - his poor signings, bizarre tactics, poor quality of football. He is ultimately responsible for everything that''s gone wrong on the pitch. So, if we''re going to blame him for that, we must also acknowledge when he gets things right, which is what you refuse to do when you say that Ashton improved "despite Worthy rather than because of...". Ashton came here a bright young talent that many weren''t prepared to risk in the Premiership. Worthington took that risk where others weren''t so bold - and it nearly kept us up - then sells him 12 months later for more than twice what we paid for him. He came here a young hopeful (signed by Worthy), and left a player who''d proven his ability at the highest level (having been played by Worthy). Surely that''s an improvement? Whilst he''s done a lot wrong, I think credit should be given where it''s due.

Would one of the players you''re referring to be former England international Michael Ricketts? Blimey, such quality. They''re welcome to him and Steven Hamill. These aren''t players who wouuld bring anything to the club, so why sign them? Stop bashing Worthy for the sake of it - especially when there are plenty of valid points you could make!

Even worse - he''s ruptured his groin and is out of the World Cup. I for one really feel for him.

In fairness, every time I''ve heard anyone from the club talk about Spillane, they say he can play at centre half, centre midfield and right back. So he''s being played in a position that he''s comfortable in. Or do people stop reading Worthington''s quotes two-thirds through?

Help! I''m stuck at work, with no way of listening. I don''t trust Soccer Saturday, as their reporter has just said that "England''s number 3, Rob Green" had made a great save from Deon Burton. However, he isn''t even playing! Please help, what''s going on?

You managed to name names to play wide right, showing that you''ve identified players who could improve our side. But "a creative midfielder" is a bit vague! Otherwise, I agree with everything!

It has to be a balance - the youngsters will learn more by playing with some of the regulars. We need to identify the spine of our team for next season (presumably Green, Shackell, Doc, Drury, Safri, Hucks, Earnie) and then try and fit youngsters in around that spine. Having said that, Drury looks like he''s out for a while so he can temporarily moved from the list I made! I don''t see much point in playing Charlton, or any of the loan players if we''re not serious about trying to sign them permanently. I do think there''s space to give the Jarvis brothers and Henderson some decent playing time between now and the end of the season.

I agree. For the first 20 minutes Burnley looked like a pub team. Quite what was going through McKenzie''s mind when he opted, with time and space, to try an ambitious lob with his wrong foot, is beyond me. But, ignoring that as one single moment of bad decision making, the passing tonight has been dreadful. Too many passes have been easily cut out. Also, once we''d switched to 4-4-2, someone should''ve reminded Huckerby of his defensive duties. We can cover him upfield with a five man midfield, but for the second goal he lost his man then didn''t do enough to cut out the through ball. We played a poor team tonight, and sank to their level.

Herbert, if I ever need talking down from a tall building, I hope you''re not the person they send!! Seriously though, this season has been poor, but why can''t you be pleased with the win? It was nice to do the double over the second-placed team in this division. Whilst you say it was lucky, I thought a number of our players had excellent games - the two starting strikers, and both centre halves were very good. Green was solid and Johansson was unlucky not to have his goal given - I thought he was level. For all Sheff Utd''s second half possession, I don''t think they did enough to get anything from the game and so it proved. I know this doesn''t make up for the rest of the season, but it was a crumb of comfort. Just enjoy the victory for what it was!

I agree - I''m a fence-sitter, reluctantly thinking that it''s time for a change. But it sounds like today Worthington successfully adjusted our tactics to very nearly grab an unexpected victory! Let''s hope today''s performance is carried forward to next weekend. This season has been hugely disappointing, but beating Warnock and co next weekend would help soften the blow!!

No, apart from the 5-1 and 6-1 defeats that followed each other at the mighty Port Vale and (I think) Huddersfield. Walker did a great job first time around and was showing signs of sorting things out second time before he was sacked, but don''t forget some of the humiliation we had to put up with back then as well.
