nutty nigel 7,963 Posted September 17, 2007 5 games played and 5 goals conceded including 2 clean sheets. Only 5 goals scored though so if we could just get a new centrehalf in to replace The Doc we could win the league. Why is it that only Peter Grant and others at the football club seem to be unable to see this......

And looked far more assured than when he played alongside Shax. I think it really is just a case of someone in there keeping the back line in check, as Dublin does.I really cannot remember Palace threatening us at all Saturday. With both Dion and Doc solid - Even tho Dougie Freedman made Doc look like a clown at one point! [;)]
BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted September 17, 2007 The point, dear readers, is that he is supposed to score a few goals for us from free kicks and corners. Especially, since Worthy brought him in as our Prem Strikeforce Alternative B.That''s why he is sent upfield all the time at set plays.I can assure you, that every Pink''Un match report contains the following phrase at least twice -''And Doherty heads/fires wide.''Just a fact of life.OTBCP.S. And did I hear somebody remarking on what a significant proportion of goals these days arises from set plays. No, I didn''t think so.

From my reckoning he could quite easily be joint top scorer if the ball had gone a few inches the other way.

[;)][/quote]Exactly CFJ - we just need a leader and an organiser with excellent awareness, and becuase shax and doc are neither, one has to go to accommodate said leader. The assumption has always been that is should be the doc but i don''t think it matters really. Dion shows how much we need a leader in there everytime he plays but he''s not the answer long term and he''s prone to errors as well. Why won''t Grant try out Murray? As for the docs scoring ability, i totally agree BBB - to think he used to be a fill in striker and scored on his City debut!!! Sure it''s his job to defend but every good side has a CB who can pop up with crucial goals from set plays.
nutty nigel 7,963 Posted September 17, 2007 This thread is a fine example of how hard it is to let go of a good old witch hunt. Why not turn your attention to Brown now you are willing to concede that defence isn''t the problem anymore.Where as I think Chris Brown has made a huge difference in making us difficult to beat the fact remains he hasn''t scored, so to worry about the goals from a centreback who, as has been pointed out, has been close to bagging two goals, seems to me like a case of being unable to let go.Of course we could just recognise the contribution of all players, those that start and those off the bench. Football is a team game, I believe we have the makings of a team and it''s time for the fans to join in.
lobster catcher 0 Posted September 17, 2007 What a weird world we live in.We keep a clean sheet and doc gets slated for missing a chance, yet chris brown gets complemented on his heading and passing ability even though he has yet to score a goal
mrs doherty 0 Posted September 17, 2007 can you all just leave the doc alone and moan about someone else please
Stevie Wonder 0 Posted September 17, 2007 Doc isn''t anywhere as bad as is made out on this board. He is just one of those players whose every mistake seems to be punished and one of those players who when they have a bad game they really have an absolute stinker - he reminds a bit of Spencer Prior who also suffered from these problems. As for his goals or lack of them anyway, it is almost 2 years since his last goal which is far too long for a player who goes up for all he set pieces and has played a proportion of his career as a centre forward. In Gunns Hands We Trust! 0 Posted September 17, 2007 As all Managers will say " At least he''s getting in the right places to get attempts at goal", He''ll get them on target soon enought. If he bagged 5 this season i''d be delighted.
