ca 1 Posted June 30, 2007 Taken fron BBC website[quote] Norwich City are poised to complete the signing of David Marshall, according to the Celtic goalkeeper''s agent. The Championship club have negotiated a fee, thought to be close to £1m, with Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell."If Celtic manager Gordon Strachan gives the go-ahead, David will have a medical on Monday or Tuesday," Willie McKay told BBC Sport. "He just wants to play regularly and, with Peter Grant, Jim Duffy and Bryan Gunn there, he won''t be homesick." The Scottish coaching contingent at Carrow Road have been keen to sign Marshall since he impressed on loan last season. Celtic rejected an initial offer from the English club, who went on to secure Rochdale''s Matthew Gilks. But manager Grant insisted that he was still pursuing the 22-year-old Marshall, who is keen for regular first-team football to rekindle his international career. renegade tootsie 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Nice to see you distancing yourself from the smudger/cluck(same person?) venom. If Grant brings in Marshall, plus a tall striker with a bit of balls, and hopefully a defensive midfielder/centre back with the money we evidently have to spend then we are going to be well placed for next season. We evidently have several million to spend, some of which I would expect Grant to keep back for January, and it is great that we have that option.Reasons to be hopeful. CJ 1 Posted July 1, 2007 At long last Grant is building a team that has a real chance of promotion. To be fair last season we were very unlikely with injuries with kw=ey players like Earnshaw and Chadwick out for long periods. I for one have no problems with Earnshaw leaving although would have liked a bit more money. He is great at slotting goals in but is really not a team player and you are really struggling due to his height when he plays up front by himself.Grant has got Cureton who will give his heart and sole for the cause and knows where the net is and looks very likely Marshall who will prove a great asset to our defence. If we can get eitther Eastwood or Strihavka we are getting a good side. However I really would like to see another solid defender as the competition for places at the back is very weak and although Dublin is a great emergency back its not really the way to build for the future, and of course he is a great attacker. Dublin is such a class act I would always start or bring him on he just calms the whole team down by looking so assured on the ball and his great positional sense. I know I will get stick for this but Drury really worries me still, as a left back you are bound to get trouble in the form of a nippy right winger. I have seen too many games where the threat comes from the weakness here.
gazzathegreat 0 Posted July 1, 2007 Good post Chris, I agree with your points re the defence. We do need someone reliable and strong at CH, though getting someone as good as Dion, but ten or more years his junior would be a major feat! As for Drury, I think he''s slowed up and have noticed too that more than a few opposition attacks go down his side reflecting that weakness. Is the captaincy affecting him adversely that he cannot fully concentrate on his area of the pitch, or is it just he''s having a bad run of form?
Buncey 1 Posted July 1, 2007 Don''t know whats better:We are getting a top young goalie for what appears quite cheaporWe don''t have to put up with rubbish gallagher anymoreIt''s win win.
Ivana_rubyatitz 6 Posted July 1, 2007 According to the quote in the report it says Strachan still has to give the go ahead. Lets not count our chickens just yet, but what a good signing if it is true because he looked class during his brief spell here.
