OMG I thought we were finally done with the ridiculous claims that we paid £7m for Yanic Wildschut...

We got around £13m from Burnley for Robbie Brady but I seem to remember we did well out of that deal so maybe he doesn’t make the list.

Klose’s entire fee was repaid with that equaliser against the scum.

I also found this interesting

29  Ozan Kabak  3.5m (loan fee)

35  Ralf Fahrmann  3m (loan fee)

So Kabak is our 29th most expensive signing, just to borrow him, and same deal with Fahrmann who didnt even play!

If the top three cost a combined figure of £33m don’t forget the impact they had.

‘ P*ssing money up the wall ‘ seems a bit of an understatement.

I hope lessons have been learned

These figures are almost certainly the max amount we could have paid for each, there's no way we have forked out the full fees for Tzolis and Wildschut, nor will we have paid anything like that for Sara yet.

Agree. Hardly anyone pays upfront and there’s a lot of ‘ ifs ‘ and ‘ buts ‘ in some cases.

A lot of them seem to be undisclosed as was the fee we paid for Robbie Brady. Presumably the fee quoted in TGMD’s list came to light later ?

Nah, this is from Transfermarkt and their figures will be a guesstimate if the fee wasn’t made public.

It doesn’t look too clever that our three most expensive signings were massive failures but it’s always a gamble.

These are such wild figures.

Sara's fee isn't 10.5m up front, I think it's more like £6m with add ons from reports at the time. I think it could total something like £11m when those add ons occur. Klose was supposedly around the price we sold Grabban for so £8m, not sure if the rate was close to 1.5 euro's to the £ then or not. A good example is that Rashica is rumoured to have cost around £9.4m which works out at todays rate to be just a tad north of 11m Euros.

Could be wrong though. Equally, Hooper was almost certainly £5m and so 5.3m euros seems awfully low.

Basically when we spent big money for us it rarely works. Compare those 15 signings to Krul. Pukki, Mcveigh, Wes, Bowen, Culverhouse, Holt, Russell Martin, Kenny, Trybull, Zimmerman, Godfrey.

All picked up on free transfers or for below a million.

I used transfermarkt, but tried to cross reference with another site. But you are quite right, this is only a lazy Google  🙂

If you look at our best players oveer the years we've rarely acquired them by outmuscling our rivals. The only teams we out-muscle are those who dont really want the player. We do better when we unearth a gem - ie Holt, Hoolahan, Buendia. In that category might be Godfrey and Aarons. Depends if you class them as academy products given they were with other clubs before we signed them

You can make a fairly strong argument looking at that list that our best signings were also our least expensive. We're not a club with a good track record of spending money.

Is the last one Leroy Fer?
