Duncan Edwards 2,271 Posted December 26, 2023 Given that it looks like he’ll soon be back on the market; would you take Wayne Rooney as a replacement for Wagner? Young ambitious, elite level player…what’s not to like?
Graham Paddons Beard 2,458 Posted December 26, 2023 Stupid question. So a stupid answer. Yes.
Capt. Pants 4,297 Posted December 26, 2023 No, but I would have taken Steven Schumacher, who's been snapped up by Stoke.
Ian 1,136 Posted December 26, 2023 On a serious note, Wagner has had a lot of exceptional circumstances to deal with which has led to me giving him the benefit of the doubt so far, particularly when it is clear he still has the dressing room. That said, when Sarge is back (and Hanley fully match fit) there really are no excuses left for Wagner. If we haven't progressed significantly by the end of the season I can certainly see Knapper pulling the trigger.
cambridgeshire canary 6,833 Posted December 26, 2023 Think is rather obvious Wagner won't be going anywhere until the end of the season so even a stupid question like this one is rather pointless

Yes. But as far as you’re concerned he’s not going anywhere. Completely pointless.

Young ambitious, elite level player…what’s not to like? A manager was always going to have an impossible job there when they sacked a manager who was popular with players and them in good form and in play off contention. Sacking the manager was always going to be demoralising and confusing to the players, and having a new manager come in with a different style of play was always going to be a huge slap in the face. Rooney was stupid for taking the job in those conditions, but probably not to blame for the decline. No though. The answer is no, no, no. No thanks.

Wagner will probably get us tantalisingly close but not close enough and will be removed in the summer. Knapper will then get a bit of stick for not acting sooner but that's the way it goes.
