Major rebuild needed

Recommended Posts

Too many damaged goods, a bit of deadwood, a few who will never be good enough, and a few past their best.

Lets face it, we need to just focus on blooding a few youngsters now, give Rowe and Gibbs a few starts, AO needs to start every game.

And lets finally accept that "one more year" for Pukki might not be a good idea. Unfortunately he's a spent force.

We need a good 12+ players out, for Webber to rediscover his 2017-2018 era head for a bargain, and for us to finally sign a permanent f*cking defensive midfielder with a clean injury record.

Krul, Pukki, Hayden, Byram, Gibson, Hanley, Giannoulis, Placheta, McGovern, Marquinhos, McCallum. Rashica, Sorenson, can all get off the wage bill.

Dowell depends whether his wages fit a 20 starts a season profile really.

Idah, season long loan to League One please.

Oh, and, 3 year deal for Onel immediately If the heirarchy can't see he's our best winger then he's too good for us, about 20 of the other 23 teams in this league would take him on a free.

Totally agree.
Many fans, through their loyalty and hope, have convinced themselves that some of these wasters are better than they are.

A clear out is indeed needed. But who’d trust Webber to do the rebuild!?

It's time to run with the kids with a young coach at the helm too. Our most experienced players let the side down week in week out. Let's find a coach too who hasn't failed in their previous jobs so at least we have some hope of upside there too.

Sargent, Sara, Omobamidele, Nunez, Gibbs, McCallum, Idah, Tomkinson, Tzolis, Mumba, Rowe all 23 and under.

I'm sure there's other lads in the academy to come through yet too.

As I understand it, the next two year's parachute payments have already been accounted for.

So where will the money for a rebuild come from?

Well a sh*t load will come off next seasons wage bill here (subject to finding clubs willing to take the ones under contract):

Krul, Pukki, Hayden, Byram, Gibson, Hanley, Giannoulis, Placheta, McGovern, Marquinhos, McCallum. Rashica, Sorenson, can all get off the wage bill.

Totally agree.

We really did look awful today, not one player impressed.

I’m now used to the likes of Hanley, Dimi, McLean and Idah not being good enough but sadly we also now need to add Aarons and Pukki to the list. Max in particular is awful and worse just doesn’t see, to really care.

As stated on another thread huge clear out needed and even if we have spent all our money need to foster on the young players where there is at least a hope they can improve and become decent players.

Wagner really has a lot of work to do.

People expecting a 30m cash injection to rebuild this squad, which is what I think is needed to even get the play offs, are in for a big shock.

I would hope that we'd have scouts compiling lists of Germans out of contract in the summer to be honest.

We could do worse than to take a punt on a load of Germans again to compliment our kids, the grit and determination of the likes of Trybull, Stiepermann, Zimmermann, would rather watch that then this sh*t any day of the week, whether we're 15th or 5th.

It isn't even that we're sh*t, we've not got enough real men in the team, no warriors. Look at young AO coming on and throwing himself in front of anything and everything like he's Terry Butcher in a cup final. See a bit of that in Gibbs now and again too, so lets get him bedded in, start him every week.

Lets start with AO and Gibbs. Oh and give McCallum the rest of this season to try and impress, I don't really rate McCallum but the Greek is a write off and must be costing us a f*cking fortune, and at least McCallum can win balls in the air.

AO, Gibbs, McCallum, start them all, for the rest of the season, blood them for next year. Get Rowe involved too.

I don't expect to see a £30m cash injection.

Its time for Webber to show he can use the bargain basement again. The free agent list, Bundesliga 2. He's going to have to find a way to assemble a team here, this current one is a mess.

Lets not forget he sacked Farke for not being able to win games in the Prem with this bunch, f*ck me.

Could probably get close to 20m with sales of Aarons, Sara and Rashica.

Would these Germans get work permits though?

It's clear that brexit did really mess up how we did our transfer business, we have been much more all over the place since then. Maybe now with the South American pipeline up and running there's hope.

Aarons and Sara are two of the only ones we should keep! If you sell them then you need 50m.

We'll need a good £20m for a striker alone.

No we don't, don't be silly.

We need to do what Norwich have always done, and find good players on the cheap, and if Webber can't do that he needs to f*ck off.

Middlesbrough paid £2.5m for Akpom, Coventry paid £1.2m for Gyokeres, Tella is on loan at Burnley, Carlton Morris cost Luton £2m, Millwall paid £1m for Bradshaw.

Meanwhile Pukki cost us £0.

So why do we need to spend £20m on a striker? Silly talk.

What we need is a recruitment team and Sporting Director who can find some gems somewhere, whether that's Webber or somebody else.

Very impressive to score 23 goals and only get one assist

We've got no option but to sell Aarons in the summer, as he is entering the last year of his deal.

Sell Sara though and we need Chase era style protests. We should already be having them for the failure to extend Onel's contract, I hope that the yanks know that unveiling that as their first act would be good optics and that its already on the table.

I'd also add that I think the bargain basement as you describe it doesn't exist anymore. When we signed Buendia cheap 5 years ago it was because we were one of maybe 10 teams in English football who really invested in data when making signings. That meant that some players went undervalued, it was also true for nearly all of those signings from back then.

Fast forward to now and there's pretty much not a club in world football who doesn't have a better idea of how to value their players. The fact most people on this forum now know what xG is tells you how the game has changed in the last 5 years!

This change + brexit is why we found ourselves signing players from Poland, Greece and Russia, in the hope that those leagues were being undervalued by the competition.

It's also why I think we should shift our attention to being the best in other areas which are much more within our means, mainly our academy and bringing those players into the first team, as well as ensuring we have the best coach possible. Maximising our efforts in areas like set pieces would be good too, but we've seemingly forced out the one specialist we had in this area.

It might only be a rumour but if we receive an offer of £25m for Sara I can't see us turning it down.

You lot crack me up. Idah needs to be cut? He was the only bright spot from todays game. Set up our goal, was a nuisance and we looked toothless up front after he went off (not that we were world beaters before that).

Pukki was appalling, Sargent had the first touch of a brick wall and Marquinhos was non existent apart from when he got sent off. Everyone else was laboured in their passing and build up.

Much work needs to be done, but Idah is not the scapegoat. The whole team are lacking energy and enthusiasm. If a team sits back, we have no ideas. Sunderland did it Sunday, Warnock tonight. I expect Alex Neil will on Saturday and we will again look clueless.

Under McNally we managed to find undervalued players domestically.

And clubs still manage to do this now.

Pilkington and Bennett were signed from League One when we were in the Premier League. For some reason Webber has always been averse to shopping in the lower leagues.

McNally then left us with the gift of Godfrey from League Two and Maddison from League One.

One of the biggest 4-6 sides in this league will have Connor Chaplin off of Ipswich if they fail to win promotion this season.

Eh?

I literally had Pukki and Marquinhos in my f*ck off list, and Idah was in my needs a loan list.

We really missed Onel tonight. Marquinhos may have a better career ahead of him, but tonight he was a very poor replacement - miles behind what Onel has been offering us since Wagner arrived. I am also coming round to the idea that it's best to let Pukki leave, but anyone who thinks Sargent is going to replace him is in cloud-cuckoo-land - he has the worst first touch I have ever seen in a professional footballer. And I doubt Idah is the answer either. Then there's our generous defence who nearly always manage to gift at least one goal to the opposition. We really are in a bad place.

For me, the only players who came out of this game with any credit at all were Sara, McLean and Gibson, and even they only looked good in comparison with the rest. Meanwhile, Wagner still has credit in the bank for what he has managed to achieve so far in terms of some performances, but many more like this one and he'll start to be under pressure.
