NeymarSmith 136 Posted March 10, 2023 Not wanted at forest, deadline day move to Blackburn fell through, good age and I doubt would cost a fortune. I think we were linked/rumours with him last summer. Personally I'd take him, and it's clear Hayden hasnt worked out. Thoughts?
cambridgeshire canary 7,779 Posted March 10, 2023 Do we really need another centeal midfielder? Although with out injury rates..
Capt. Pants 4,973 Posted March 10, 2023 If we don't get promoted then we'll need a replacement for Hayden? Can't remember if O'Brien played for Wagner at Huddersfield. He's a decent player but is he too similar to Gibbs?
Peregrine Shorts 523 Posted March 10, 2023 didn't his deadline day loan fall through because Forest were demanding a ridiculous guaranteed transfer fee at the end of it?

He's 5ft 8, more of a small athletic box to box midfielder. He's not a defensive midfielder or a big strong bullyboy is the point I'm making. But yeah, actually, does seem like a similar mould of a Gibbs in mf, hassling and hurrying and snapping at opposition heels.

Do you know who else is reportedly about that height? Oliver Skipp, the last good defensive midfielder we had. You don't have to be tall to be a defensive midfielder. Christoph Stiepermann 1,257 Posted March 10, 2023 I was hoping we'd sign him after our last promotion season, he's a bit like Ollie Skipp, not as good obviously but plays a similar role for the team and could be a good fit for us. He's currently in that really good in the Championship not ready for the PL gap that a lot of our players find themselves in but at 24 he could still develop into a good player. Sara and McLean are near first names on the teamsheet and rightly so on current form. I guess the point still stands though as to whether we need a Gibbs type, or more (perceived) physicality like Hayden in a Alex Tettey role.

You need several tall / physical players a team of umpa lumpas would struggle.

N'Golo Kante is 5'7" and again, far from being a huge hulking Bradley Johnson type player but is yet again, an exceptional defensive midfielder. There are actually a lot more examples of this than you'd think. The most important thing as a DM is being able to read the game and movement. Tettey showed us that, we had better players in his time with us, who could play that role - like Bradley Johnson, but he was just so good at it.

That would be hilarious, cancelled for commenting that a team made up of a fictional characters would not be very effective in the Premier league.
cornish sam 1,037 Posted March 11, 2023 Tbf I was disappointed we didn't go for him a season or two ago, he looked like he could be a very good player.
