Pukki on the goal trail again

Recommended Posts

Something that has got lost in the defeat against Watford is a very big positive - that Teemu is back on the goal trail, with a very well taken goal. The start of hopefully many goals for him this season as we gradually find our feet and get some momentum going.  Yes, we had a disappointing game on Saturday, but to see Pukki scoring again is a real pleasure - and he took it really well.

Pretty sure that’s the first clear cut chance he’s had (other than the header but that’s never been his forte) and he’s banged it in beautifully.

Hopefully it’s the start of something but he needs the final balls to be better, it was a superb assist and we’ve been lacking those balls for him to run on to he thrives on.

It was a simple ball over the top but great to see Normann seeing the opportunity. Could be the beginnings of a wonderful partnership.

Pukki has had sod all service this season so far.

The other positive was the ease of which it was scored.  Makes you wonder if we over complicate things when there's players who can deliver a pass like that from half-way line that yields a goal.

He actually had a very good chance (set up by Cantwell) against Liverpool, but nothing clear cut apart from that. Gilmour also set him up with a great chance with a fantastic pass on Saturday, but unfortunately Teemu fluffed that one.

Yes, and I thought that Normann's chipped pass that put him through was encouraging too. I may prove to be wrong, but I think that he offers more going forwards then Skipp does.

Been looking a lot more like Teemu Pukki in the last couple of games. It's almost as if fitness is important for a professional footballer. Hopefully a few that were calling for him to be replaced have willingly taken a seat on the naughty step.

The Liverpool one was much tougher, like I think we've agreed a good chance but not clear cut.

Trying to remember the Gilmour pass, its not coming. He should have done much better with Sargent's cutback though, again not an easy one but should have hit the target.

If you watch Pukki during the games (rather than following the ball) he is making great runs and just looking for the Buendia pass to run on to.

We need to be a bit more visionary in midfield like Norman’s pass for the goal.

If Pukki had a better quality service he’d have scored a few more this season.

Takes time to get teamwork going with so many new players.  Sargent looks a bright player and capable of through passes, as are the other new players, Normann, Rashica, Gilmour, Tzolis, Lees Melou. Cantwell and last season's players should know what to do too, so really the requirement is to up our game all over the pitch and with the players signed, that ought to happen as we get going a bit more.

The Gilmour pass ended up into very small angle to shoot, with keeper being well positioned. Some day he could've scored, but no way easy spot to score. Would expect most top strikers score maybe 1/10 of similar chances.

Was nice to read that Normann spoke with Pukki before hand to understand his style. Saying if he gets on the right to just "lob one over" knowing Pukki will react quickly. More of that please 🙂
