TIL 1010 5,246 Posted August 4, 2021 (edited) This is a good option for those thinking of chucking in their season tickets surely @nutty nigel? 😜 Edited August 4, 2021 by TIL 1010
Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man 4,615 Posted August 4, 2021 Yes, please do. I've recently moved back to the area after a decade away and apparently the waiting list for season tickets is full and they're not even accepting people on the waiting list until the end of this season, so any help would be appreciated. Feedthewolf 5,885 Posted August 4, 2021 I've not utilised the buyback scheme before, but they're offering £20 per match for an adult ticket... isn't that higher than it was before? I know that the general consensus was that what the club offered was negligible so hardly anybody bothered with it. Could at least increase the chances of casual fans getting tickets if there's more of an incentive for people to give them back to the club. Would have been even better if they'd have tiered the system as they've done with the casual ticket prices, though... even £15 for bronze, £20 for silver and £25 for gold would probably have resulted in more people taking advantage of it. The reality is that if you've got a spare ticket for a gold match, most people will more than likely sell it to a mate for £30 (or more, depending on their scruples!). hogesar 10,762 Posted August 4, 2021 Its a nice gesture from the club and it gives fans an option which is important right now. I really miss football and assuming the rule of everyone being double jabbed is going to come into force I think it'll be relatively safe- safer than visiting the shops, for example. It used to be tiered in just that way, but instead they have gone for tiering by differentiating between age groups, which I think is new. Or perhaps they had both, and wanted something simpler. Can you (or anyone else) remember what the previous incentives were (ie. how much they'd pay you for your ticket in the tiered system prior to Covid-19)? I should know the answer because I have used the buy-back scheme a fair bit. They did improve the amounts a few years back, I think roughly to what they are offering now. I understand why the club haven't done this, but in an ideal world there would have been an option for fans to assess the situation about halfway through the season, since a week has proved to be a long time in covid politics. It could still happen, couldn't it? If I was in the club's commercial department, I'd be using the season tickets that people sell back to the club as casual tickets to maximise income. Nothing stopping them offering half-season tickets in December/January to those who deferred as a gesture of goodwill.

I absolutely agree on the tier point bearing in mind that the average casual ticket has been upped from £30 to £44. Also whilst £20 rebate is reasonable for a standard £500 season ticket, it isn't for an £840 lounge ticket. As was discussed at the Supporters Panel the end point of decision is also relevant, 2 days notice is radically different to 2 hours. If the former, people may hold onto the tickets in the hope of getting a higher price from their mates thereby creating a risk of empty seats if they then fail. This is the kind of detail the Club should share with their Consultative Groups before announcing it in order to get the feedback and fine tune the policy before announcing it.
