What y'all listening to?

Recommended Posts

That last one reminds me of a hippy house I used to visit full of unusual folk always, and watching someone singing Band on the Run at half speed with his acoustic at 2am after taking his hock knife, his voice fading away after someone would put on a track like Henchlock...two random dogs just sprawled across legs. I won't paint the scene more. But I'm back to 1981.

Nice selection. I'm not sure what those "drums" are on the last track but they have a great sound.

They look like woks. Seriously I don't know. And a bloke does seem to be playing saucepans. Agree they make for an interesting sound but can't connect the whole to the title of a flight of an owl.

RIP Phil May.

I bought the SF Sorrow vinyl in 1968 and still have it. The first Rock opera, a year before Tommy.

This wussy stuff is all very well but it's time someone posted a hard listen. From a singer I last saw in an field in Lincolnshire in 1971:

Good stuff Purple. I was wondering about protest songs of today but then Elastic Man posted the Sleaford Mods (Jobseeker) above and it's been great to check their catalogue.

I've got the Finzi down as already posted. Apologies if I have.

Anyone know how to re-order stuff? Can't see how to do it.

I only had the Private Sorrow/Balloon Burning single. Loved them since the Don't Bring Me Down days.

I feel good...

When we were in love I pretended you didn't exist
That way I loved you more
You suggested we get married and move into a house
I suggested that we jump overboard
And live underwater in the lost city of Atlantis
Where mermaids sing
And tuxedoed dolphins bring you breakfast

One year later I was transfered to the moon
Worse pay, better hours
I was transfered to the moon
Worse pay, better fellow workers

I built our love out of blood
I went to the dentist and told him "take out my heart"
I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now
I feel better than James Brown

I was attending Mardi Gras with Fidel Castro
Buxom cross dressers threw fake gold coins at our feet
As we discussed the fate of the revolution
Suddenly, CIA men dressed in bikinis
Tried to stab us with fountain pens
Fidel blew mustard gas from his cigar
And immobalized the lot of them
19 tequilas later we had a deal
Havana goes back to the mob
And Fidel and I open a chain of Kentucky Fried Chicken shops

Ain't life sweet? I feel good
I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now
I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now, how do you feel?

I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now
I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now
I feel better than James Brown
I feel better now, how do you feel?

The first time I went to Glastonbury The Cure's A Forest was the only song I can remember. 🤪

Love that Daniel Elms by the way. A big hint of Reich/Glass in there.👍

Me too, it's a great video to accompany the music (in this instance).

Tried to go more mainstream with picks tonight except for Elms.

(I don't routinely listen to Paloma Faith but just like her dry humour in the lyric of that song)

She has a great voice, but sometimes, like in the advert she recently done, she belts it out Bassey style and I find it a bit off putting.

It's Alice, but not as we know him. His first few albums are well worth adding to anyone's collection.

Yes, I found it moved me more than I expected when I first heard it.

@Herman

Huge fan of Lykkie Li- thought her last album was very underrated.

Have you listened to Courtney Barnett? She's right up there on my list of amazing female musicians.

I missed her last album. It seemed to be overlooked by everyone, including 6 music, who normally champion her.

Courtney is great, especially when she first burst onto the scene. Lyrically and musically. Some of her newer stuff is not as powerful but still good.
