Arsenal fans waving 'Wenger out' banners.

Recommended Posts

Can you believe this? This is the most pathetic thing I have seen in the history of British football.

Arsenal are in the race to win the league FFS!! He has achieved remarkable things over 18 years. What do they expect of the man?

I would love to see Wenger leave and see Arsenal go on the slide like Man Utd.

Arrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!! FFS!!!!!!!!!!

Ungrateful twots.

Every club has them we even have some of them at our club asking for

1) Delia and her tremendous board to sell up

2) sack our fabulous young manager

3) sell our magnificent captain Russell Martin

We all need to stick together and be positive we have so so much to be thankful for at our great club

It might be influenced by their recent form. Arsenal have only 13 points from the last 10 games which puts them 13th in the form table over the same period. Perhaps some fans think they are choking again right at the crucial point of the season?

Nothing wrong with Arsenal fans protesting to get Wenger sacked. Fans own the club - it''s their club - so why criticise them for trying to make a difference & bring a change? They haven''t won the league for a long time - probably won''t win the league with Wenger in charge.

I hope some Norwich fans put a banner up saying, "we want Alex Neill out," because the board have to take notice of the fans. We own the club - this club will never progress in the premier league while Alex Neill is manager. If we stay quiet in the stands and don''t protest nothing will change. I hope people start protesting and singing "we want Neill out," while we are losing against Man City.

The fans had to protest to get Hughton sacked. Same has to happen this season - or we will drop into the championship. I don''t believe in allowing managers to keep their jobs for failing to achieve the club''s expectations.

The complaint against Wenger is an odd one. Most fans demand clubs spend money they don''t have. With Arsenal it is that Wenger refuses to spend money that seems to be available (Arsenal make good profits) despite an apparent lack of squad depth. For example, Cech was the only first-team player signed in the summer. Not one outfielder. And the fans, quite possibly correctly, link this lack of spending to the club''s lack of success in the PL and the Champions League.

If they do, let''s hope they spell his name correctly.
Perhaps if Arsenal do part ways with Wenger we could consider him to replace Neil? [I]

Of course any profit is good compared to running at a loss like many clubs. The figures I''ve

seen for the three years 2013-15 put their profit before tax at £7M, £5M

and £24M respectively. So if the entire pre-tax profits from the last

three years were assigned to team strengthening, the money would have

been enough to buy Sanchez (£30M) with a bit to spare but not enough to

buy Ozil (£42.5M). Arsenal are like us, they spend only what they earn; they are a financially responsible club which plays within FFP rules; and like us they have fans who seem to think there is far far more money

than there really is. What''s more, there is a like determination not to let the club fall into the wrong hands, which comes with its own costs. In Arsenal''s case that is particularly evident, but completely ignored by the club''s critics (in the media especially).

Arsenal also have £159m in cash reserves - supposedly a current world football record. This is not a club that needs, for example,  to save up to pay for a new ground. They did that already. And the argument that Wenger  is almost mullishly refusing to spend money that plainly is available to strengthen his squad is coming not just from fans but from journalists who cover the club.It is true he will pay good money for someone (such as Sanchez) he rates as being a nailed-on first-team starter but is known for not wanting to buy squad fillers. So when injuries and suspension come his squad is to thin to cope. And the facts bear out the argument. When did Arsenal last win the Premier League? 2003-04? When did they last even get to a Champions League final? 2004-05. The last six season they haven''t got past the last 16. That is an awful record for such a club.

Mourinho had it right, he''s a specialist in failure; with Arsenal''s resources they should have won the league in the last 10 yrs. He''s stubborn and arrogant as he''s one the league before, moved away from the philosophy that won him the league and refuses to go back to it.

He''s got top 4 and won a couple of FA cups in 10 yrs; as long as he''s in charge, arsenal have no chance of winning the league again; I can see their frustrations to be honest

I once read that while Arsenal were paying off the new stadium Wenger''s job wasn''t to win trophies but the board had tasked him with qualifying for the champions league and making a certain amount of profit on player sales each season to ensure the club had a certain amount of money coming in. If this is true then he''s done exactly the job asked of him. Arsenal fans in general don''t deserve a manager like Wenger let alone one that might have won the league.

They are in a very healthy position despite the cost of The Emirates. But that doesn''t really explain such a massive cash pile, which keeps on growing, and such a notable lack of serious trophies. This is a season, with other top clubs in chaos, when Arsenal ought to be running away with the title. I am the last poster to advocate spending money a club doesn''t have, but that is no the dilemma Arsenal have.

I''m not sure what the situation at Arsenal is and given the length of time Wenger has been there it could well be different to most other clubs but at most clubs the decision to spend money or not would not be solely the managers

@PurpleCanaryIf you look at Arsenal''s cash balance historically since 2006, you will see that it has been built up systematically year on year to the point where it reached £150M. Since reaching that figure, Wenger has shown himself ready to go out and spend relatively big sums for top players (Ozil £42.5M, Sanchez £30M). At the same time Gazidis stated publicly that the club was at long last in a position to start competing again at the high end of the transfer market. There''s a lot of jumping to conclusions that this cash balance must be available to buy players, and that the only reason it''s not used for that purpose is Wenger''s pig-headedness, I would have expected any decent journalist, and especially those who make it their special business to cover Arsenal, to look into the exact reasons why, over the last ten years, the Arsenal board have thought it essential to build up and, since 2013, maintain, a cash balance of £150M, so essential indeed that they have prioritised it over making more funds available to Wenger and despite increasingly strident grumbling from supporters. It seems far more probable to me that, noting how soundly in general the club is managed (as you yourself have pointed out), there is a more rational explanation than the glib ones offered by the club''s and Wenger''s critics.
