1.
This is for the benefit of that fool called Nigel Worthington, learn from Sir Fergie. ''But we thought the wiz was giving NW 10 games'' and ''leap of faith'' and all that you say. But after his non sup...
A very silly post.
2.
During the game his analysis is often very good but like you say... his inability to criticise players and the manager when it is obvious is surely detracting from the service that is being provided t...
Were you at the game today? I thought Fleming was actually pretty solid/ Secondly, I find Neil Adams'' comments are spot on 90% of the time -- he''s an experienced footballer who probably knows exactly what it''s like to find himself in this situation. Maybe I''m subject to the media, but I tend to take not of his comments more than the majority of "Canary-Call" fans who ring in with pretty much the same comments week in, week out. That said, I''d be so very upset if I found out he was employed by the club in some capacity...
3. I mostly agree. If Ashton had taken his golden chances we would probably have come out on top. The midfield looked much stronger with Brennan on the left. He and Safri seemed to be the only players who wanted to actually put the ball on the floor and play passing football. Secondly, I felt quite sorry for Gary Doherty when he got booed and ridiucled today. When the incident occured that involved him having to put the ball out for a throw... well, he had no shout from Green at all -- where was the "Man On" call? I find myself feeling a bit ashamed of some of the fans who are looking for their "whipping boys" to take out the season''s frustrations on. An improvment, but we seem to have forgotten how to score.
4.
Sorely missed, and would be in the current starting 11 on merit. thorne has been unlucky, with his 5 minute run outs and his injury V. mk. but why not offer 30 year old Svensson a 2 year deal and lose...
I found myself watching the majority of last season''s match highlights, and found that the major providers of quality crosses into the box, resulting in quite a large proportion of our goals, were in fact Helveg and Bentley. A lot of top quality headed finishes were provided by Matty Svennson (Bolton game anyone?!). Is it perhaps a coincidence that we''ve struggled with both of the above this season?
5.
After yet another dire display can there be any one out there who still thinks W is the answer? 5 games, 4 at home, 3 goals scored, 5 conceeded, 3 points - and all of this after last season''s debacle...
He still has to be in. For me, Worthy can still provide the goods, and who ever said football was about pic''n''mix managers? If by mid-season we are performing under our expectations... well that''s when serious thought has to be put into the managerial and coaching situations.
6.
I largely agree with Saint Canary and Mook. Both these fans regularly contribute reasoned and well constructed posts with very valid points of view. If I had my way they would both be heading the list...
The whole point of Ashton signing a new contract was to indicate to the media, fans, and any other clubs that may be interested, that he is not for sale at this current time. Of course, this may change over the coming seasons, and nobody is saying he will definitely be with us for four years, but it was a brilliant move IMO as it puts an end to the endless speculation, and more importantly, allows Deano to get on with his job without the constant stress of "Ashton linked to West Ham, Ashton linked to Man City" etc. etc.
7.
I am one of the 13 odd who should slag off this post - but i can''t be bothered as it is a waste of my time wasting time at work.
My sentiments exactly. Find me a manager who hasn''t made mistakes and I''ll give you the moon on a stick.
8.
A good point, well made, who could possibly argue? One of the most well-constructed arguments I''ve ever read in my life. Are you Richard Balls?
Now, now...!
9.
ashton only signed a new contract today cos we cudn''t get morrison, cos it was clear that if we got morrison then ashton would have been sold to maybe the likes of west brom, wigan, west ham ..... for...
What is it with some supporters and always having to make the worst out of something good?
10. I know it''s just one guy''s opinion, but when he come out with things like: Behind the scenes, Ashton will have spoken to those courting his signature. It is illegal, but it happens. I don''t think there''s any evidence of Ashton being tapped up, and that quote makes it sound like a dead cert he''s off! Really narks me off to be honest.
11.
Slightly closer to home... Has anyone got their Pink ''Un Out in front of Delia?
I''m sure a few people must have...!
12. Well it wasn''t Shakespeare that''s for sure, but we won and it is results that count. At least we''ve still got the guts to keep going right until the end. I''m quite chuffed Brennan''s found a bit of form again too, I feel a few 25 yard stonkers coming from him this season!
13. To be honest, I think a lot of fans are now convinced we won''t win a game this season, and perhaps their frustration is understandable going on current form. However, people seem to forget that even the great teams and players have poor runs of form. We ARE capable of beating the majority of teams in this league, we just have to get our self-belief back, and what better way to do this than by stuffing Leeds on Sat?! Here''s hoping! The worst thing would be for a few games to go by with us still not getting 3 points -- can you imagine another scenario like last season when we went 13 games without a loss?!
14. Was listening to Radio Norfolk, and it sounded like McKenzie should have had a least a hat-trick, and Peter Thorne had one cleared off the line. We HAVE got the required quality in our team to do well this season, but for one reason or another, it isn''t happening yet. Compare the squad we have now to the squad we had 03/04, and it''s pretty clear to me we have one that is superior, but is hugely lacking in confidence due to the pressure of not getting the results, and the difficulties we had last season. Fans getting on the manager''s and the players'' backs and BOOING players off the pitch is not helping matters. The lack of creative play last night was worrying, but Safri and Brennan sounded very good, and lets not forget our two biggest attacking players were out, to be replaced with someone who hasn''t yet played more than 15 minutes a game, and someone else who seems to be lacking in confidence. It''s hardly surprising that we didn''t score any in normal time, even though we had about 8 good chances to score. Some people seem to think that because we''ve had a season in the Premiership, we are now going to be vastly superior to every team we play in our current division. This was never going to be the case. Perhaps a reality check is in order?
15. Bearing in mind the pasting he''s taken on this board from some people, didn''t anyone see our goal against Palace? Great strength and a great cross giving Deano a great chance to finish! If he starts doing that regularly, then I think he''ll be well worth the £500k we paid for him. Shame he''s injured now really, I would like to see if his ball retention, which hasn''t been great, improves once he''s settled in fully. Comments?
16. The real reason for the criticism is that expectations are higher than they''ve ever been this season. If these expectations aren''t being met, then understandably, people will try and analyse why it''s not happening. The whole thing then snowballs, and before you know it, 4 games into the season people are calling for Worthy''s head. Of course, unrest within the fans definitely affects the players and the managerial staff, making things even worse, but the lack of realism shown by some people on here is pretty astounding. Just because we''ve had a season of Premiership experience does not suddenly mean we''ll be beating every Championship team 3-0. It is a long, tough league, and our players need time to adapt and gel, and more importantly, to retrieve their self-belief and confidence. I predict that when our first win comes, many more will follow! Let''s just hope it''s tonight!
17. Wow, I never thought I''d hear myself say this, but I agree within the Wiz 100%!
18. I agree, Worthington is completely useless. Any old fool could get a mid/lower table team up into the Premiership, mastermind victories against Man Utd and Newcastle with a squad worth about as much as Rooney''s left leg, whilst signing some incredible players over the two seasons (Huckerby, Safri, Ashton of course). We''ve had a poor start, no doubt, but anyone who thought we were going to walk the Championship clearly hasn''t got a clue. Frankly, I''d like the "sack Worthy" threads to end because they''re monotonous, boring, dull, samey, and generally aggrivating. To see the amount of "armchair managers", who clearly have far better credentials than Worthy, but just choose to post their rubbish on message boards instead of taking up offers in the football league, is simply laughable. If we still haven''t won after the next few games, then of course, we need to have a serious look at what is going wrong -- but until then can''t we stop repeating the same things over and over again?! This is further compounded by the fact that as a team we''ve generated a lot of chances, we just haven''t got the finishing touch yet. Patience is a virtue, so they say. Each to their own however, of course.
19. Oops, sorry Bob Bob, that reply was targetted at the thread author, not you! :$
20. Bob Bob, I completely agree with you. Jarrett has looked awful, and you can clearly judge a player by his first 3 games. In fact, I wish Worthy would have gotten rid of that Ashton character after he scored that terrible own goal on his debut. Not to mention Robert Green who didn''t seem able to catch a ball when I first saw him play! Sheesh, what is it with our "fans" and constant moaning? I have to say I''m finding it quite tedious. I actually thought Jarrett looked good and very lively against Inter Milan in pre-season, but it is so difficult to comprehend that players take time to fit in? Yes, we have to start getting the results soon, but we''ve not looked awful, we''re generating chances, and the goals will come. @Mr Rosario -- Spot on there, sir!
21. Listening to Radio Norfolk yesterday was very depressing -- yet again we came "so close" to equalising against Southampton, but we couldn''t quite find that finishing touch. I know it sounds silly, but a fundamental part of getting the right results is believing that you can get them. I think the major area we are lacking right now is mentally -- a lot of people though we would walk the Chumps league, but it just isn''t happening for us at the moment. We haven''t won a game yet, and it''s clear that the fans are getting agitated. I''m of the personal opinion that once that first win comes in, a landslide will follow. I just hope it comes along soon! Does anyone think that the team have forgotten how to win?! Discuss.
22. Perhaps you''d say sack Jose Mourinho -- he clearly doesn''t know how to manage, as Chelsea were very lucky to win today!? Come on guys, 3 games into the season and we''re looking like a good side, even though we have 6 new players. If we haven''t got a win within the next couple of games then perhaps it''s time to look at what is going wrong, but the fact remains that the last two performances have been good, and we''ve been unlucky not to win at least one of them. Some times things don''t go right for your team, and it''s up to the supporters to get behind them, especially when we obviously have the quality neccessary to win promotion. In fact, I think negative supporters could clearly damage our chances of promotion.
23. Yeah, that''s fair enough -- it''s certainly not the best of starts. But we''ve got new players and the team will take a while to gel fully. I thought the performance was far better in the second half, and was a big improvment. We were all over Crewe for most of that half, and Safri looks class! Let''s see what happens on Saturday...
