  1. Yes, probably - but my main point is that the player values don't actually value the players at the club as free transfers, re-signed players and academy products don't have any value in the accounts as far as I recall (which always seems strange to me - a proper accountant, like Sheff may be able to elucidate further and more accurately?). I wonder if we have academy products in our squad than most - although we are likely to lose a couple shortly!
  2. It's mainly to do with amortisation and the fact that we have several youth players in the squad who are valued at nothing - see below.
  3. Yes, I think that this is correct and was going to post something similar. Amortisation does funny things with player valuations and profit and loss in accounts. e.g. We paid say £8 million for Rashica on a 4 year contract, but if we sell him for 5 we will have made a profit of £1million as he is only valued at 4 million after amortisation. The other thing that s important that is does not value people who have re-signed after their initial period has expired (e.g. Hanley; Hernandez); came on a free (Krul, Lacey) or came through the academy (Aarons atm, Omobamidele, Rowe, Idah etc). This explains the discrepancies between the player valuations and the wages.
  4. Hardly, as the poster below says, the back of his calf was volleyed! (See video)
  5. Agree completely! If the top 6 - 8 joined the European league as they want to, ban them from domestic football and we could have a really interesting and competitive league.
  6. ...then you start finding stories about Prince Harry interesting, blame migrants for everything and think that Brexit was a good idea "but they haven't done it in the right way." Be careful it's a slippery slope - force yourself to watch the EPL and listen to radio one!
  7. I still think that it is a strange move for Max - despite PL status, Bournemouth are the smallest of the 4 options open to him. As you suggest, I guess he is "backing himself" to prove to other PL clubs that he worthy of another transfer even if Bournemouth go down, which is pretty likely I'd have thought.
  8. I can't recall anyone saying he is "a cr*p defender" which certainly isn't true, but it is reasonable to conjecture why it appears that no premier league club seems to want to buy him. As I have ventured above, I wonder whether his stature is an issue, an alternative view is that suggested by ZLF below. Without doubt we have failed to maximise Max's strengths since Farke left, especially under Smith when he seemed to be under instruction to play very conservatively. However, I'm not sure that this is the reason for his declining value, which would seem to me to much more to do with his contract length and the apparent lack of premier league interest.
  9. Because if he is such a bargain, someone else will come in for him - at present it seems that only Leeds and Southampton are interested. The absence of established premier league interest puts a de facto ceiling on his price.
  10. Unless someone comes in quickly, it seems that no Premiership club really wanted him. I'm sure that I'll get corrected if wrong, but I suspect his stature is an issue for many clubs, particularly for someone in "the back 4."
  11. (Slightly nervously...) As you say we already have his replacement in the squad - who on early evidence seems to be an upgrade for Wagner's style of football. What word would you use instead of "reserve?"
  12. I agree - I suspect that some of the earlier rumour came from us! (But have absolutely no evidence as to whether this is the case.)
  13. Yes - noticeable that the rumours seemed to harden around championship teams, with PL teams dropping out. It will be interesting to see if there is a large minute "rush in" for him: if there isn't, I suggest that it shows us a lot. Like you, I'm not sure it "strengthens an opponent." Even if our reserve right back makes Leeds a stronger team, they will be £12 "lighter." I imagine the big attraction to Farke is that he already knows Farke's way and will help the team as it adapts to his style.
  14. 1. If we look at it objectively a deal for £12 million (probably less with add ons) is a good deal for someone who is our reserve full back in the last year of his contract. 2. As with Todd, it is reasonable to suggest that we might have done better financially to sell him earlier. 3. The add ons almost certainly include a promotion bonus, which means that financially we would benefit from Leeds gaining promotion! (Still not worth it imo, although I have a soft spot for Farke.)
  15. Pot, Kettle, black! But one hour before, you did exactly the same and whilst I don't normally like to debate at a level as low as yours, I'm afraid to say you started it. It is obviously a pathetically low level of debate, but at least has the merit that you might understand it - perhaps? 🤔 Quite happy for you to block me - I can't imagine that you would ever have anything say that would ever be even slightly stimulating - I leave you to your VHS copies of the "Good Old Days." 🤣
  16. "Oh why can't things be like they always use to be" he whined? I've heard it all before - "eeee all we had to eat all day was a cup of cold sick ,,, but we were happy." Sorry, the world has changed and it's not going back to how it was when you were a lad I'm afraid. If you've been going for as long as you claim you will remember the half full grounds, the fights and threat of violence, but no doubt to you it was better then. You can moan as much as you like but if you acquired wisdom to go with your years you will realise that the world changes and you can't stop it.
  17. An interesting suggestion but 1. I think that it would be too expensive 2. The importance of corners is exaggerated by fans Presumably you don't like the other new-fangled ideas like PA announcers and music as the players walk on the pitch, Or would you like to ban singing, raising your voice or any other signs of excitement? I think that you'll find an armchair more comfortable!
  18. I love the drum and miss the flags - the more we have to create a sense of occasion the better as far as I am concerned! Obviously if we play well the atmosphere will usually respond - but what's wrong with a bit of help?
  19. Yes, but I think that he is trying to move us away from the "lightweight" model and wants more physicality from us. time will tell but I could only ever see him fitting in as an inverted winger and I have no ideas whether he is physically up to the job.
  20. Thanks for report as ever Ricardo! Re your Granddaughter's husband, the score when he was actually watching was 0-1, so he might still be a bit of a Jonah - better keep an eye on this 😁
  21. We used to go to Calais, there were a couple of restaurants that we went to quite regularly. Never went to a disco either - you must be younger than me! Do people still do this post-Brexit?
  22. Aaah, I remember the days when I lived in Kent, when we used to pop over to Calais for a night out! Go there on a really cheap ferry, have a good meal and back in the ferry bar! Does/ can that still happen post-Brexit?
  23. Don't want to worry you but Newcastle took over 10 years!
  24. I don't see any reason why Emi's position was any weaker than the other players I put forward most of whom had multi-year contracts. The thing they all have in common is the player threatened to "kick up a stink" (mixed metaphor, I suspect) and in each case, the club decided that the cost of keeping the player was greater than keeping him. We are no different.
