1. Well, though I wasn''t at the game, I have to say my opinions are that Duncan isn''t at all being sanctimonious, any more than we are when we condemn racist abuse.  I know it''s almost part of football to call people gay, just as it''s a usual part of our banter whilst growing up.  But personally I''ve just about got rid of that insult from my personal vocabulary, after reflecting on how I''d feel if I were queer, and a hundred people or even just one person were to use it as a term of abuse in front of me.  This doesn''t mean I seriously think that social conditions are such that offensive homophobia can rapidly be eradicated from the game (e.g. before 2013...) but it would be nice if footballers could ''come out'' and not, as they currently do, have to pretend to be something different for fear of being treated badly.  Again, the main difference between, for example, ''fat''ism and homophobia is that being overweight can affect a player''s performance and therefore could justifiably be seen as a negative (a la Mullers), while like race, the other is irrelevant to their playing ability, and like race does attract violence (sometimes deadly) and day to day victimisation in this country. Having said all that I still find the ''Does your boyfriend know you''re here'' song to the Seagulls fans hilarious, but then I think most people would find it humorous, rather than abusive, when heard in context...
2. Yes, good job on the midfield there from Worthie (at last).  Safri and Jonson are excellent subs to have available as well, plus Helveg of course.  But I''d like to know from anyone who was at the game: how were the back four this weekend?  You couldn''t really tell from MoTD. Was the contrast with the Valley down to Southampton''s inferior attacking, or were our defensive boys simply playing much better and actually being organised this time?  Or was it down to the better defensive work by the middle of the park, e.g. Bentley, which I''ve read about?  I thought the Beattie goal was just weird - from what I saw on the telly, I have no real gripes about it.  But could Greeno have been more alert for it, or was it just a freak?  Still, not so strange when compared to that Arsenal goal vs West Brom. Cheers!
3. Yah, yah Whiz, obviously I knew that and was just testing...  Actually, if she were a member of this board, ''Mother of GenerationA47'' would be ashamed of me since she taught it at A-Level.  Vixing on a votum
4.
Thank You Jenny !!!!!!!!!! someone has common sense too .. read her words .. they are the truth .... and like that other guy said .. if we start Helveg we have a Better chance of NOT LOSING !!! which ...
With all due respect Creasy, I disagree: I think the main thing tomorrow is very definitely to win, rather than not to lose.  That''s why I think, as ''that guy'' perhaps was hinting, for things to be set up promisingly we''ll need more than just Helveg starting! To everyone seeing it tomorrow - make loadsa noise, don''t boo, and most of all enjoy it.  (I hope!)
5.
it does jim, roughly translated mean that. A reference to a brilliant poem by the Brilliant William Blake. No personal offence taken, we all have opinions and its only fair we all express them. No...
Nolite te bastardes carborundorum = ''Don''t let the stewards of the bar get you down''???   Could be referring to Worthingtons
6. With Waller it''s ''what you see is what you get'' - you don''t really expect him to be different to how he is: homely and cosy in the BBC local radio style.  Controversy isn''t in his vocabulary, and that''s fine for a match commentator, and often fits the bill.  His is a comforting voice, an institution in his lifetime, our favourite annoying uncle. It would be nice however if, in addition, there were some alternative on the airwaves, say if a local station like Broadland were to cover some of the matches and take a different approach, or if there were a second personality at Radio Norfolk who would assume the "critical friend" role.  This John Humphries-like Norfolk terrier of a journo would be expected share to a large extent the interviewing responsibilities with ''good cop'' Sir Roy.   In my view the Pink ''Un does a good version of this approach, with a more supportive view from the various news interviewers and report writers, and a slightly more offbeat version from the comment writers, especially the independent views of the Man in the Stands.  Let''s hear a few candidate nominations from the message boards!  I would suggest YC (but the accent might grate ), or how about Beelsie (as the elder statesman figure who''s seen it all before and knows what''s what )!
7. I reckon you''re right, Tom.  I was expecting and hoping at the time that there would be more changes than there turned out to be at half time: Mulryne for Holt, possibly Ward for Greeno, literally anyone for any or all four of our defence (with the possible exception of Eddie, who blew hot and cold),  Johansson for Svensson... oh, sorry about that last one... In fact I''d really like to know why there weren''t more substitutions after the first sorry 45 than just Bentley, who did start causing problems around their area (but still lacks accuracy).  Mulryne was a similar revelation.  There absolutely MUST be a shake-up in midfield (and defence, but...) to start our subsequent games. A quick self-congratulatory pat on the back to the fans once again, we put our own team to shame with our commitment and consistency.  As far as I saw only Mackenzie came and clapped us at the end; the others were probably too ashamed.  Though I thought Hucks was also a star - when he was actually supplied. Then bring on the Saints...
8. OK but apparently these other clubs of which you speak aren''t desperate enough to set up a petition.  Good luck to Wrexham for their campaign - though I have no connection to the club whatsoever, I their chase - I mean their case - sounds terrible, and I''ve already signed the petition.
9. Glad to see there''s someone with an even bigger screw loose than me on the board now.
10. Tufnell, would O''Neill have any particular reason to do us a favour (he didn''t have a brilliant relationship with the club even as our manager! and left under a cloud, even though it was Chase back then), and does he actually want to let Sutton go (isn''t he still scoring for them)?  I''d love to see it happen mind you
11. Well don''t eat too many contests, then, I''ve heard they can give you really bad indigestion On the ball, City!
12. Don''t you furriners know it takes several centuries to become accepted in Norfolk?  Seriously, we''ve all (including me!) got to bear in mind that not all newbie posts are the same, neither in the opinions they advocate, nor, as a matter of fact, in the reactions they get from us low-lifers.  In any case, I doubt there''s a deliberate tendency to ignore new posters, it''s just that like in any situation it''s easier to relate to people you ''know'' better than to people you''re not so sure about - it''s nothing personal whatsoever.  For example, I''m absolutely sure there are so many newbies (and readers) who are far, far more knowledgeable than me, but the other posters are kind and tolerate me here, because they know I won''t bite, and usually don''t soil the carpet if you pet me enough. By the way, it may be boring for some people to read the same posters & opinions all the time, but until you start paying us we won''t change our material. So there!  No-one forces you to read this board, remember: anyway it''s an interactive thing first and foremost, so get posting...  And again, a big yellow and green welcome to all those who''ve recently joined.
13.
More importantly than any of that for me right now is that I asked my girlfriend to marry me on Sunday and she said..........................YES
Hope this doesn''t mean you''ll be spending less time on here as a result, Stevenage.  England expects, after all, and we need all the low-lifers we can get at this point... Congratulations! (PS With all due seriousness, no-one informed me via the telephone network - am I out of your family''s phone tree loop, or something, for some ridiculous and unforgivable reason?)
14. There is a board on the world wide web They call the Pink ''Un And it''s been the ruin of many a poor fan - I know, ''cause I am one.
15. This one deserves another airing before we all get so p''ed off with the situation that we all jump into the nearest river and there''s no-one left to support the team...
16. Thanks.    Actually we were all newbies once (for me, the end of last season) and the more the merrier.  Welcome to the board and all that.  I''m sure 1stW didn''t mean offence anyway, in fact he sounded like he was being a bit sarky or even getting into the old self-parody, so no worries there. However, the main way you get to be a prolific poster is by being here a while, rather than not having a life as you suggest.  Also, again no offence but it must be said that the current intake of new posters sometimes sounds like the same person in multiple aliases, all backing himself up in excessively anguished screams of pain and frustration, which in my view would be highly appropriate if we were 19th in the Championship rather than the Prem.  (That doesn''t mean I''m exactly happy at the moment either, by the way!)
17. Beds: Fresh air, breath thereof.  Thanks!  I just don''t get this dodgy mood-swing mentality that seems to be prevailing this season, with one minute people saying we''ll easily stay up, then now everyone''s saying we''re all doomed and let''s assemble the firing squads.  I too have a difficulty with the way that we''ve been playing so rubbish at times recently, but mostly since the season''s start we''ve contended really well, and could have won many of the games we''ve drawn, and anyway who knows what January holds in store in terms of a quality striker and defender... it can be done.  (Though given our club''s financial size we''ll always have to have considered ourselves lucky if we stay up, rather than expectant of doing so.) Livin'' on a prayer for a year, so let''s keep the faith
18. Susie B, I have noticed, at least this season, that Sky never use the extra bits of clubs'' names, except obviously when necessary distinguish league clubs sharing the same town name e.g. Manc, Sheffield, Aston (?!), etc.  Perhaps this is a policy on their part to appear terse, manly and ''in the know''.  Well, as the Bard said, what''s in a name...?
19. I always get confused when they mention Old Trafford when United have a home, because I thought they play at Plantation Park.
20. I like your points, man.  Absolutely agree.
21. Aha! Thanks Mr T - interesting phrase.  Yes, I can see how that could happen in some people, especially perhaps in the more ''IT-minded'' sort of person (to put it nicely). I''d say, like most of you, I''m rather more (vocally) aggressive at the football than on here! On the ball City
22. Yes, and I''m still kicking myself for not getting his autograph when I walked right past him hanging out with Roger Munby after the West Brom game.  Away shirt with HOLT on the back, dedicated look in the eye, East(Angli)ern appearance - unmistakable.  XXL16, you appear less bulky in the flesh (if you''ll excuse the expression) than in the photos.  Also: after your TV presenting experience at Colney, when do you get your chat show?
23. He keeps putting them away, doesn''t he?  Have you already discussed his suitability or otherwise for the first team? Apologies if yes; if not then tell me more.
