We don''t need this distraction. Survival is everything

The year is 1992 and Norwich under the stewardship of Mike Walker have made a decent start to the inaugural Premier League campaign. They travel to Stamford Bridge and quickly find themselves 2-0 down. This was partly down to them getting stuck in traffic which meant they had to get changed on the bus and run straight onto the pitch - but I digress. Norwich battle back to 2-2 and it appears that is how the result will stay. That is until David Phillips scuffs a speculative shot from the edge of the area towards Dave Beasant in the Chelsea goal. Despite having enough time to light a cigarette, go to the toilet and then laugh at how weak the shot is, Beasant allows the ball squirm through his arms and into the net. A moment of shocking ineptitud, which allows Norwich to return to the top of the table. A random and totally pointless story but let''s face it, this was a random and totally pointless threat by a random totally pointless poster.
Beasant was badly at fault for one of the other goals and arguably for both. When the third trundled in, as I recall, he just lay on the ground with his head in his hands.
One of the great away games. Always sticks in the memory. Don''t think Beasant ever played for Chelsea again, did he? What made it even better,if memory serves. They had only just signed Flecky from us. We were a bit cheesed off about that. When the teams ran out in the corner near to us. Flecky looked towards the Norwich fans and gave his new badge a cheeky kiss. That stirred us up a bit,and made the win even sweeter.

And C''on the Saints later on. And the Lilywhites tomorrow.

Its not the end of the world!
Mind the gap replied to Dave's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Dave, agreed not quite the end of world. But I do think your post, well intended, does water the problems down a tad. It sounds like these "poor" games happen a couple of times a season. In reality we''ve been p..s poor in three games already. 1/Southampton.the worst of all IMO,were you there?. 2/Leicester,despite cries of dodgy ref''s and cheating players,we were easily second best. 3/Newcastle,we made them look good. So,agree with your sentiments. But please don''t make it sound like an occasional thing. -
Tettey scoring for Norway
Mind the gap replied to grefstad's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
He scored. But they didn''t get thru. Might be Wes vs Alex in November. -
I remember a couple of long distance abandoned games back in the day. We had a decent sunny day up in Blackpool (470mls round trip) ready for an early season league cup match. Then a monsoon hit the ground just before KO. That was that. Home we go. Then a Newcastle league game (580 miles RT from W.London) was called off when we got there, due to ice,I think it was. Quite a few games were called off in those days. Fog/Snow etc. But those two were the furthest.
-
We really should stop Whinging about the refs. And Uncle Tom Cobley and all. Feeling hard done by. It was a pen....just. We would be screaming for it. The team have to start moving the ball around at premiership speed. Not division two speed. On the subject of time wasting. The worst offender is in our own ranks. JR takes an age over every GK. Even when we''re behind.

Yes I was looking forward to that little duel. But I read somewhere this morning that Barton not yet match fit. But,as you mentioned,a few ex canaries playing. -
Be good to see Bradders playing tonight. Hope he has a good game.

Anfield or Carrow Road?

Upton Park will be different next week. Old fashioned ground. Fans on top of the players. Team doing well. It won''t be quiet. I''d take a point right now. -
Predictions for Sunday

Noticed the OP. Usually quick off the mark. Not yet answered Wes Hooly Fan question, put 14mins after he started the thread. -
Ray,I think most of us realise that stats can prove whatever you want them to prove. At my place of work I had stats coming out of every orifice. You believe in your stats, and that''s important for you For me,he''s a very limited player. Yes,as you say he gives 100 per cent. No doubt about that. But so have many others, without the adulation he gets. In fact he''s talked up so much that I can imagine,a few years down the line. He''ll be talked about in the same breath as some of our great defenders of the past. Steve Bruce for example. And Dave Watson. Going back further there''s Duncan Forbes,Barry Butler and Ron Ashman. Surely even you. His most devoted fan Can''t think that''s right.
-
Ray, are you Martins love slave ?. With your daft stats turning him Into Franz Beckenbauer after every game. Never known such an ordinary player to get such adulation around the villages of Norfolk. Really smacks of little old Norwich. Let''s just address the three points always brought up in his defence. 1/Picked by various managers 2/Scotland 3/Picked for the league eleven last year. I reckon just about every player over the age of 25 has been picked by several managers. Otherwise they wouldn''t still be in the game. Are they all made into icons, and beyond criticism ?. Maybe not. Then there''s Scotland. Crumbs, they''re even worse than England. A championship team at best. Hardly a feather in your cap. Finally that league team of the year. Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder could see that was a political choice. Just spread over the league as a whole. Not forgetting he''s such a nice guy. Give me Vinny Jones any day.

Mind the gap replied to im spartacus canary 's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Just got back from the stadium. Southend and Wycombe fans in good voice before the match. But no shorts in sight. Plenty of Coates and Brollies though. There''s a very loud tannoy under the subway, when leaving the Tube. Blaring out "who are ya,who are ya"''. That got em going. -

I''m in the same boat as you Tilly. Over 2000 points. This and many other seasons. Did you have trouble getting tickets for Munich,Milan,,Arnhem etc? And I think we do make a bit of noise at these games. In my experience I''ts often these so called "passionate, vociferous supporters" who are the first to drop off the radar when we''re not doing so well.
Went to all 3 European games Gap old mate and not a problem with tickets even for the small dump of a ground that was Arnhem.
Exactly my point,Till. And loads of other big games down the years. No probs. Until yesterday''s circus. Still can''t believe it.
