  1. I just can''t believe this great reverence towards Henderson throughout this board. Yes he''s scored goals that can''t be denied. Unfortunately the lad has a long way to go. He just does not appear to be aware of his players. Hucks so called ''lack of form'' coincides with Hendos appearance in the first team. I have noticed comments elsewhere on this board criticising Hucks, incredibly, of being unable to read Hendos play. This is absolute nonsense. Hucks has experience throughout the league and if anything is going to put him off wanting to stay at Norwich is seeing the likes of Henderson being picked despite his obvious lack of ability at this time in a side that is second in the league. The boy just can''t hack it at this level for more that a game or two in a row. He may well become a good player but he needs nurturing. Against Watford he scored two good goals thanks to Hucks ( Yes Hucks the player who a few cap doffers have decided is not all that he''s cracked up to be - the same people presumably who think we should think ourselves lucky we are where we are in the league as we are only a small club!!) Despite Hucks being professional enough to admit he''s struggling with top form, in the Coventry game, particularly in the first half, he was holding the ball wanting Henderson to run into space and the boy just did''nt know what to do. The problem in that game was not Hucks but the service to him. The biggest danger in him leaving the club is his realisation that tactically the coaching staff just can''t hack it! To those who think it''s clever to suddenly decide Hucks aint the man I ask, Why do you think ''Weluvyou'' has suddenly got all this room on the pitch? Why do you think that good players should play to the zenith of their potential week in and week out? Believe me Hucks and Crouch (or an equivalent to Crouch) have got to be retained otherwise our season will drop like a stone. Those who are praising Henderson are presumably the same people who thought Sutch was a great club player and Llewelyn a hard man who should have been given more chances. I say to these people who contemplate their umbilicus- GET REAL!! Hendo might well become a good player and his attitude is first class but Worthy is still showing this worrying lack of awareness of when to play players (including his interesting substitutions!). For a coach with all these qualifications reminds me of the typical university graduate full of wonderful grades but no commensense. Come on Worthy convince me you are learning by your mistakes and that there is a decent manager in there somewhere. I''ve supported the Yellas for nearly 50 years and once again we are close to becoming a decent side but the board, supporters and all city staff have got to think big. With a potential home support of 27,000 plus (if the ground is ever big enough) everybody has to decide, do we aim for the stars? like the scummers always try and do to their credit - or do we stay as an average first/second division side - one of the biggest underachievers in the league. I suppose what I''m saying is - lets go for it - there is absolutely no substitute for quality on the pitch - it''s not all about running about like a headless chicken like some seem to want the likes of Rivers and Hucks to do. I say to those supporters, just watch the forward players at Real Madrid. Come on City, make this miserable old man feel young again!!
  2. Just wanted to add my name to the Uni salute. Like kennyfoggo and others I too have been supporting the yellas for well over forty years and can identify with everything said. What a message board this is turning out to be. I read the bit that Smudge said the other day about the new stand and how small it is and his fears of another City Stand debacle. It all really relates to this ''small minded'' attitude the club has had for years now. On a positive note, however, I really think we could be surprised at the outcome of all this. I''ve just got this feeling that the board and club is beginning to turn the corner. I can see Hucks being signed (qualified rumours) and Crouch on extended loan to end of season. If we did that and didn''t go up, I think most of us would say ''well at least we gave it a damn good try'' The bonus would be that an impetus would be in motion and I''m sure supporters would return next season in their numbers. Anyhow......All Hail the one known as Uni !!!!
  3. Sorry Kennyf. but these are exciting days and we must enjoy them while we can. It''s been a long time a comin''. If, however, you want another subject and I always like a good moan...........Can anyone tell me how Sutch (there I''ve mentioned him) could hold on to a first team place for all those years when me and my mates always said he wasn''t fit to play for Oulton Broad never mind a Premier team! Bearing in mind this footballer(?) should still be in the prime of his football life but could not hold down a place in a rank Southend team and has now climbed to the dizzy heights of substitute for Boston Utd reserves. It''s not that he is and was a very poor player it was the way he use to con his managers. Chickening out of tackles but making it look as if he had really tried. Pointing his finger at corners whilst defending making it look as if he was organising the defence. Big joke - we use to watch his mouth to see if he was actually saying anything - not a thing passed his lips. OK it''s not his fault various managers were taken in but he still was responsible for many disasters during his reign - and I don''t need to mention his last curtain call. At all our major dissappointments there was Sutch in the middle of it. Whether it was Sunderland FA Cup semi final, San Siro stadium or continual slides down the leagues particularly away from home. If that wasn''t enough his prodigy Llewellyn joined him in the ranks for an almost unbroken period of two years. Yep! we played, in effect, with nine men in those dark days. Even Sutch had a couple of good games over his tortuous decade with the super greens. I can remember his spell in goal, his goal he scored against Bradford and finally his pinacle, the goal that put us top of the league when playing Aston Villa. So, Kenny, you do your own thing. Me? I''m loving every moment of watching a team that at times is very exciting, to a man they give 100% and once again after many years I can say I''m really proud of our club including fans players and board (Well not sure about Doomcaster!) Hey! I''m right in the middle of the binners here and even they are giving us grudging respect now. Right rant over. Now going to bed!
  4. Tumbleweed I think you''ve raised a really valid point. I can also understand Celia''s reply. The fact is though that if you are running a true response message board, the posts must be up reasonably quickly. What happens frequently is that although we may be responding to a subject, the particular point a contributor is making that you wish to respond to, is lost because of the delay. Perhaps the ''subject'' divide should be dropped and return to the old pinkun site style list. Hopefully this will be looked into seriously because the contributors on this board are by far the most interesting of any City board I have read. Combining intelligent thoughts (mainly!) and provoking good debate. I have noticed there are several who have not posted lately and I think it is because of the problems highlighted. I hope this can be rectified as I fear more will stop contributing.
  5. Woe Pincer! I agree with Foxy. There are a lot of supporters who have, over the last months been a little worried about Worthy''s tactic etc. but generally a straw poll I think would reveal that in the main we are behind the manager. As far as I''m concerned he has always had a big question mark over tactics (especially away from home) but his handling of the board has been superb. I have always worried about the boards lack of positive mental attitude. I really think that at last this board has ''come of age''. No doubt helped by Worthy''s professional attitude. I heard Roger Munby in the Gunn Club last week and his quotes were tremendous. Irrespective of whether his aims turn into reality, the message was one of a positive nature and trying their best to get Huckers on board and the great appreciation of our wonderfall support, home and away. Why oh why Doomcaster takes most of the media quotes is a complete mystery. All we ask is that the board are on the same wave length as the supporters and that they really are trying their best. As far as the land purchase is concerned, this is yet another example of the board coming into the 21st century and holding out for the best value for this little fortune they are sitting on. Ignore the misleading headlines in the Pink ''un. Dare I say we are, at last, becoming no easy pushover for the big boys from the south. Bury St Edmunds is only 40 miles south of the great City but is on the A14 corridor with a thriving positive business attitude and. mentally, a million miles away from geographically isolated Norwich and this is how the media views it. Well done the board for dragging City into the big time!! Keep it low!!
  6. I have always thought that our supporters are the most underated in the land. I suppose it goes with the territory of having a team that rarely gets full recognition from local and national media. The last 6 or so games are a great example. Whether it''s Radio 5, Sunday papers, Sky, BBC and Anglia TV all give us begrudging mentions. One could argue before the loan players arrived there was some justification but not since. Anyhow, I am drifting away from my point. The support this season has been absolutely magnificent both in numbers and noise. Culminating in a one minute period during the second half. Poor old Harper had one of those games where just nothing went right. Typical of the man, he didn''t hide but kept trying. This result was a slightly improved second half performance (still not that good though). When he was substituted he was given a standing ovation and boy did he appreciate it! Burley (pause for a spit) paid tribute to our support and so did Craig Brown last week. Well done all. Well done Y''Army. The binners can''t even begin to kiss our feet!!
  7. Jarvis is a great prospect. ''An old head on young shoulders'' has never rung so true. There are a few on this board who seem to think Huckers going is a foregone conclusion. I am so sure..............!!
  8. I totally agree with your comments Jonathan. I also just can''t understand this constant moaning about Rivers. He was superb when he came on as sub against West Ham and was almost as good last night. Play him deep and ask him to tackle like at West Brom and he will struggle. There are many top players in the Spanish and Italian leagues that are played to their strengths and are not required to be ball winners. He can be frustrating but I find him exciting on the ball and he keeps his marker occupied. Now if you want a really good moan, how about the golden days of Sutch and Llewellyn? Can it be really true they both played in the same team for months on end? Last biased comment on last night''s game. Drury was fouled and it was a penalty. McVeigh won the ball cleanly - no penalty. Twice taken penalty was a bit harsh on Derby. Overall fantastic performance from all the team and still pushing forward until the end. Dear old Malkay worries me though.
  9. Well said Diane. Why on earth a little constructive critcism is contiually panned on this board is remarkable. Worthy got it wrong as he has got most away game tactics wrong. What is inexcusable is that since the three loan players have arrived and when he has decided to field a positive team we have looked a class act. We all want NCFC success, very few contributors to this board moan for the sake of moaning. I find most comments are well made interesting points, even if I don''t agree with them. Whilst writing - Well done Worthy with your rant about the Boothroyd incident. This board needs a constant kick to keep them ''on side'' or is the infamous Doomcaster weaving too much control?
  10. I have always had sympathy with your point of view WO, but when Worthy signed the famous three I thought - hang on I might have been over critical - and then after the first game with them he came on the radio and said '' I wont change my side for the opposition, they will have to worry about us''... then I really got excited... hey Worthy is OK I stupidly thought. There are not many games I miss but could not get to West Brom. When I got the team news I just could not believe it. I don''t like listening to Roy Waller anyhow (that''s why go to most away games!!) but on hearing that news I turned the radio off. You didn''t have to be a brain surgeon to predict the pattern of the game!! I''m sorry because I''ve always wanted to support Worthy but I just can''t make the bloke out. It is legend what Blackpool supporters have said about his tactics(?) but there was no excuse for his first half team selection. Select a positive team and go for it away from home. If you come away with no points but shown that NCFC play decent football that''s better than time and time again going to away grounds and finding the team we are playing are at the very least ordinary and we still miss out through negative tactics. I understand West Brom were dire - Nuff said. Well done Worthy for getting these three quality players but prove you can man-manage them and consider getting your head out of the ''coaching manual of football by numbers'' otherwise they''ll be off whether you and the board like it or not!! Look out here comes Mook and the others!!
  11. Hi Heraldo. How are you? Haven''t seen you for some time. I agree with you and Bury Yellow. More importantly however...Does anyone know who those girls were at half time parading around the ground? Let''s sign them up for Carrow Road. The whole night changed for the better from half time onwards. PS Don''t tell Doomcaster - far too exciting, far too adventurous!! Keep it Low
  12. Sorry folks I can''t beleive what I''m reading here. One of the great things that came out of last nights super performance was the way Rivers came in and ''did a Huckerby'' - well almost! Surely he can''t have a higher accolade than that. All this business about crossing a ball is one of the biggest discussion points with all supporters in whatever team you support. I agree Rivers can be frustrating but I understand his best position at Crewe was as a striker or just behind. Certainly that''s where he looked dangerous when he played against us. As I say; elsewhere on this board we are reflecting on a goods night work from both team and supporters and yet here we are reverting to Rivers bashing. Of course the great thing about this board and others are the opinions expressed by us all but for me he is, at the very least, a damn good squad member and did a great job last night.
  13. I fully agree with all postings on this subject. I have been one of the contributors not totally convinced about Worthy (still not re first team coaches) and in particular the attitude of the board but well done all connected with the loan signings. If it doesn''t succeed you certainly won''t hear me complain. All I have ever wanted is for NCFC to behave like a club conducive to the size of support we can attract and show it''s dermination by example and not just by cheap words. This gives supporters and players a big lift and hopefully the media will start to take notice. I admit this is one of the bees in my bonnet but you must have good relations with the media and it is important that the PR department at the club controls them not the other way round. As has been said on this board just compare the successful antics of Ipswich PR. Whether we like it or not it does help for players and agents to take notice of us in the first place. Anyhow. Well done Worthy. When Saturday Comes? Can''t wait!
  14. I can tell you right now where Ipswich fans would prefer to be and that''s with their board and not ours!! All this we are hard up and can''t do this and can''t do that really is beginning to irritate. The Board should either back Worthy and strengthen the side damn quick or sack him and prepare to pay for a decent manager (Joe Kinnear et al) but tell him funds would be limited due to paying off Worthy and his exciting coaches etc. Here we are one of the better off clubs in the league and all you ever get from Carra Road is how hard up we are. I say to the board, stop leaning on the good will of our fantastic supporters and start making some positive noises. Get Roger Munby to help in new player negotiation and not the Doomcaster. Sort our PR department out - the way the local TV stations treat us compared to Ipswich is a joke - don''t feed them such poor stories. If the club is not already aware, I can assure them the essential extra 5000 to 10,000 support that we have had and still need is already drifting away. These people are genuine supporters but they witness the entertainment on show, hear nothing exciting to entice them to a Saturday afternoon at the match and stay at home. These are not the supporters like you and I who turn up come hell or high water, or like some of us to most away games. These are people who love the club and are essential for the future of the club but will be selective and will not doff their caps to the board. I am sure the impression is not accurate but I just feel that board members are sitting on their hands and hoping something will turn up. For God''s sake can somebody from the club tell us some positive news. At least Ipswich have daily feel good news items even if they are economical with the truth!! I would accept that so desperate do I feel at the moment. Of course Delia and crew could always sell this very viable property company known as Norwich City Football Club. Go out of business? You must be joking!
  15. Well put Oh Spanish one. A most complete and concise posting and I totally agree with all comments. Congratulations for not mentioning maracas. Is that how it''s spelt?
  16. At a risk of upsetting all the Rivers haters, to me and all sitting near me the turning point was Worthy''s masterly substitution of Rivers. Really bad man-management. It was his game and he may have got a third. The team was balanced and controlling the game so why change it that early in the second half? Unless Rivers was injured it was another bad move as per Bradford away. He didn''t look too happy and went straight to the changing room I know everyone seems to criticise Rivers tackling ability, but the boy has skill and keeps the opposing fullback occupied. OK he''s not a world beater but I think he''s the best we''ve got, particularly at home. Why is it that if we are playing badly Worthy does not use subs until it''s too late but when we are controlling the game (Bradford Rotherham Wimbledon) he does the complete opposite? Having said all that, we played well and look a different team when the ball is played on the ground. OTBC
  17. Ah my dear Heraldo. Reasonable words but we do need a quality striker and another central midfield player. I am not a great Worthy fan but he must be given a bit more time. As far as Delia is concerned, it does prove she has a great passion for the Yellas but I make two points. a) Worthy is a master at getting beneath the skin of the ncfc board I think someone advised him to do this when he first took the job. Let''s be honest, as ''nice'' as they are, they lack somewhat in the entrepreneurial department. The PR and Marketing department do not help. To get good press from the media will always strengthen a managers hand to help attract decent players. It is well documented when players come here for a trial they are well impressed with the set up. I also get the feeling that the board would not welcome an increase of funds from a benefactor/business man. Why would that be? b) You mention those charming people at Portaloo. Whatever we have said or still do say, they really have got away with all their misdeeds. Compare their PR department. The media love them. The FA love them- The rewards for plunging many suppliers into financial difficulty is a fantastic prestigious game tomorrow night. Me? I would be happy for them to end up in the Ridgeons League I certainly would not miss a local derby. Saturdays game was a great improvement and we could certainly finish in the top six but I just can''t get too enthusiastic about our first team coaches. Worthy needs a really good assistant - come on Ewan complete your coaching badges!!
