Hardhouse44 289 Posted January 14, 2013 We can debate as long as we want about who it is that should make way for others but the truth is it needs to be somebody! and a change I think would do us good.Whatever you opinion is there is little doubt that we had oodles of possession but very little threat. Some may kid themselves that we had chances to win the game but not from where I was sitting and the stats say we had 3 shots on target. That not enough against a team who quite frankly came for the result they got.It didn''t work. I''ve said in an earlier post that for me Tetty was the one who should have made way for either an extra striker or a creative midfielder. But for goodness sake we must change things at home to become more offensive when the opportunity of a win presents itself.Like for like subs and one up front when you''re at home and on top is just too NEGATIVE and we could pay the ultimate price if things carry on that way. Sometimes you have to gamble.
Stig 0 Posted January 14, 2013 If we had the "previous manager" we''d have been 1-0 down and struggling to find an equalizer apparently... Yes a gamble may have paid off, or we could have lost a scrappy point and been five games beaten. I know which sounds better, and given that performance I think CH was well within his rights to keep things as they were. Yes this is a different tune to what I was singing after the game, but it makes more sense.
nu_matik 184 Posted January 14, 2013 You say we only had 3 shots on target, which I agree is unacceptable against a weakened Newcastle but the real problem was that we got into more than enough shooting and scoring opportunities and flapped yet again. We really need a confident striker to smash the ball at goal first time....We seem to be getting into that swing of trying to walk the ball to the 6 yard box too often as we have a few times in the recent past. We should have won that game 2-0 easy even if we were poor.
GJP 79 Posted January 14, 2013
I''ve said in an earlier post that for me Tetty was the one who should have made way for either an extra striker or a creative midfielder.
Think if had we have taken Tettey off we might have ended up losing the game. I know he gave away the ball a few times but at least he was getting involved and winning the ball. Bradley Johnson was anonymous for large chunks of the game and his lack of involvement seems to have kind of masked how poor his performance was because he simply wasn''t getting hold of the ball to do anything wrong with it. Unlike Tettey who was putting in a shift despite his use of the ball being a mixed bag. You''ve got to at least make a nuisance of yourself and Johnson (plus one or two others) weren''t even doing that.
Viva Marc Libbra 0 Posted January 14, 2013 For me Pilks has blown far to hot and cold this season. He is capable of moments of quality but then can go missing in games, sometimes for a whole half. For me Bennett deserves a chance, even if that chance Is a substitute appearance when there is more than 10 minutes left!Wes is a difficult one and a separate debate in itself. My personal opinion is that he does not score or create enough to sacrifice a second striker for. He is exceptional at linking the play but that may not be enough to warrant a regular place. Tettey is brilliant at breaking up play and was excellent in that respect against Newcastle. However his distribution was/is poor at times. I would like to see us play 2 up front at home. This would either mean sacrificing Tettey/Johnson or Wes.
ZLF 335 Posted January 14, 2013 We had three excellent opportunities to win the game. Wes fluffed his (wanted more time than he was ever going to get in the prem and to avoid using his right foot, although the pull back could have been better), Pilkington at least got his on target but Krul made a great stop and Holt should have got far more criticism for his last minute header than he has, a must hit the target from there effort which he completely mis timed. So while the passing was incredibly woeful its the lack of confidence in front of goal that is harming us. As for dropping tettey? get real - he was not even or worst defensive midfielder on Sat! Tettys passing was bad, but he was getting involved and winning the ball or being in place to receive a pass. E.Bennett should have replaced Wes and put some pace attacking the centre of their defence.

Surfbird 1 Posted January 14, 2013 Tetty was winning far more tackles than anybody else although his passing was not up to his usual standard.
