Howson is now! 0 Posted January 7, 2013 ... to warrant a bit more gametime? I was at the game on Saturday and I thought both had absolutely fantastic games and this appears to have been reflected somewhat in the votes for Man of the Match on the homepage. Have they done enough though to turn Hughton''s head their way? You could argue that it was against lesser opposition but you can only beat who''s in front of you and we did that comprehensively. I''m not saying they''ve necessarily fought their way back into the team off the back of one good game, but what message does it send to the squad if you play that well and still don''t get a look in? I could see Bennett perhaps getting a start ahead of Pilkington who I think has looked a bit off recently (despite scoring) and that perhaps Fox may have at least fought his way into Hughton''s thoughts for substitutions when we''re looking to retain possession. What does everyone else think? Would you play Fox with Johnson or Tettey? Should Howson still be considered ahead of Fox despite being a somewhat different prospect? What are your views on "earning your place in the team" against lesser opposition?
ron obvious 1,711 Posted January 7, 2013 Bennett definitely. In for Pilks. Not so sure about Fox. Lovely ball for Jackson, but I don''t remember much else. Might be worth trying above Howson though, who seems strangely subdued most games.
Salopian 1 Posted January 7, 2013 I think that Bennett deserves a chance, and would provide us with what is lacking in the team generally - pace. He has a good shot on him as well, and if he had more pratcie and more chances he might show us something of his ability. Snoddy can''t be dropped at the moment, so why not move him to the left and bring Benno on the right. He is not a big man, and he and Jacko are unlikely to score from headers. Not sure about Fox, but if CH ever plays Benno behind the striker, then we probably need Fox to create. Recently an awful lot of our attacking has gone through Wes, and if he doesn''t play for any reason, then we have to find another way through the centre. The doubt I have is on his defensive ability - Benno is a much better tackler and has the benefit of pace.
ZLF 335 Posted January 7, 2013 snod was outstanding for me but after him Jackson Fox and Elliott all had good games. However I dont think any did enough to push for a starting place this weekend. I think Pilks at home is excellent and just offers quality, and fox did not quite do enough to oust BJ. Jackson remains behind Holt and Moro for me. what I would do is ensure any of the three are introduced if teh starters dont bring their A game.
canaryfan68 0 Posted January 7, 2013 I think Bennett after his short part at west ham and the P''boro game has done enough to play against newcastle. Although Hughton doesn''t seem to share the same confidence in him we will have to wait and see!
Boris 62 Posted January 7, 2013 I watch the game on Al Jazeera 6 Qatar sport Chanel and also once more at next day so must say both Fox and Benno was top game.Fox is so calm never give wrong pass always have option with the ball top top game for lad no doubt he deserved more because is a class player and give use something different.Benno simply big pro since played 5-10 minutes per game he never have head down keep try keep run and was no doubt MOM !He is so fast with ball and have good cross can be at least away from home good treat on both flanks.Jacko good goal without doubt but still i believe against proper team not good enough...Must say that I''m shocked from what I see from home team they really have no passion at all and play like (I xan say conference team but since I see how Mansfield treat Liverpool hmm)pub team!Still very good game to back team confidence now we have great opponent not in form Newcastle who not win something like 18 games away and missed some very imp players...We must win this one and hope Holt or Moro to be back for this is absolute key game
andyc24_uk 79 Posted January 7, 2013 Benno must be pushing hard for a game after that performance... Only problem is we''d have to move Snoddy across to accommodate him, which might or might not work as effectively. Might be worth a risk against a struggling Newcastle with defensive injury issues.Fox I think is still just behind the regular two in the middle - Nothing he''s done wrong, just that Tettey and BJ are playing so well together. Definitely on the bench IMHO as an option, although I''d like to see Howson there too as he offers a different option if we need to change things up a bit. Jackson for me HAS to start if Holt isn''t fit... He''s performed well every time he''s been given a starting chance this season and puts the ball in the net, more consistently than our other options up front, despite his flaws. Kane just doesn''t look up to being the starting striker at the moment and Morison I''m sorry but I simply don''t rate as a Premiership player - Great in the Championship, but he''s just not quite at that level for me and doesn''t really get the opposition defences worried the way Holt''s skill or Jacko''s pace sometimes do. Highland Canary 78 Posted January 7, 2013 Would really like to see EB given a game against Newcastle at the expense of Pilkington. He made an impact in the short time on the field against West Ham.
GJP 79 Posted January 7, 2013 I would also stick EB in ahead of Pilks. I''m a big fan of Pilks but his performances are very up and down and sometimes I wonder if he could do with a bit of a kick up the backside.
ZLF 335 Posted January 7, 2013 Pilks home performances have been far better - so would start him against toon for that very reason. Snod is the away man, pilks the homie
lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted January 7, 2013 Yes I believe both Fox and Bennet should start in a midfield of; Snodgrass Fox Tettey Bennett
Greg 0 Posted January 7, 2013 I know it was only against Peterborough but fox had a great game on Saturday. He was always available and looking to receive the ball and every pass he made was perfect. He didn''t look like a player who has only 1 league appearance this season. People are doubting his premiership ability but he proved himself last year by playing a crucial role within the team.I think he should be given a chance against Newcastle, he deserves it. I would let him start in place of Tettey, who''s form has dropped recently. My suggested line up for Saturday:BunnMartin Bassong Turner GarridoSnodgrass Fox Johnson BennettHoolahanJackson
AJ 1,358 Posted January 8, 2013 I think Bennett has done enough to warrant more than 5 minutes game time, but Fox has stiff competition in the middle and I feel Tettey nor BJ have hardly put a foot wrong

Farkes The Herald Angels 0 Posted January 8, 2013 Whoops....sorry pressed the post button before writing anything.....Anyway, totally agree with greg_hull here. I would drop Tettey for Fox, although I''d be inclined to keep Pilks at home ahead of Bennett. I''d also give Jackson a start ahead of Morro if Holt is still out [quote user="greg_hull"]I know it was only against Peterborough but fox had a great game on Saturday. Yobocop 1,444 Posted January 8, 2013 Fox absolutely bossed midfield but don''t think I''d put him in ahead of tettey or johnson Bennett played well but id still pick snodgrass and pilkington
