a1canary 0 Posted February 1, 2012 I think some of us need something else to talk about other than the Sunderland game.Watched this on iPlayer this evening (once i''d turned Goreham off) because of the obvious Norwich connection to Justin Fashanu, and it was presented by his rather lovely niece Amal Fashanu, daughter of John.Really excellent and thought provoking documentary. Still shocking that in today''s society no footballer feels able to come out, for reasons ranging to fearing it will damage their transfer value because clubs might not want them, to certain managers not accepting it, to opposing fan reactions.Quite moving too when she uncovers the way her own father reacted in 1990 to his brother coming out, saying in an interview he wouldn''t shower with Justin. With his own brother Ffs! When this was the experience of the first and only British pro footballer to come out, it''s no wonder that 22 year''s on not a single player has come out.Pretty appalling state of affairs if you ask me and (another) poor reflection between football and society. No footballer has come out since. Don''t you think it''s ok to explore the myriad of issues the whole affair raises?

Being 10 at the time I doubt she had very much to do with him on a day to day basis so naturally her views will rely largely on hearsay. I don''t care what his sexual orientation was and I think it''s a sad old world when it is an issue like this is deemed worth digging up after all this time. It''s like the recent ''Titanic'' survivors family get-together. What the feck was that all about? The nearest any of them got to flapping around in the sea was on the beach at Butlins.
canarydan23 4,761 Posted February 2, 2012 I know you probably say most of what you do to get a rise out of people and if I or anyone else had any sense we would ignore your mindless, senseless, brainless ramblings. Shyster 0 Posted February 2, 2012 I knew John - trialled with City at the same time and spent many an hour socialising with him - of course John had it particularly hard (pardon the pun) because he was both black & Gay in a non-PC time when it was deemed acceptable to call an overweight person in the street, fatso, for instance. It was tragic how, through verbal abuse, John ended his life prematurely, but I have to question the validity of a debate about homophobia in football where these very PC days are concerned - are there really that many Gay & homophobic players to warrant this being an issue? At any club in the country. And there haven''t been since Justin. So there clearly can''t be any problems with homophobia in football.

BW 0 Posted February 2, 2012 I agree with you Cluck. It happened how long ago? And now shes someone without a decent job in this economy she looks awfully desperate for some type of fame here. Society and the youth today make me sick if this had happened in my family we would of moved on by now and forgetting the hurt that this suicide had caused not throwing it into the limelight and getting the odd dollar here and there for it. a1canary 0 Posted February 2, 2012 Ahhh, it seems as though you''re not all that comfortable with a bit of ramming then Cluck!?Ridiculous pathetic nonsense as it is to suggest this thread is forcing anything on our delicate cluck, it is an issue that needs tackling head on and maybe it needs ramming down some people''s throats. Even Joey Barton is able to understand and accept that. It''s not about Justin, it''s about football and society today.

Who would want to play in the same team as someone who gets off on looking at your dick in the shower? Homosexuality is a psychological abnormality and should be treated as such. If I chose to dress in women''s clothing I would no doubt come in for much ridicule, but I would have to except the ridicule because it was my choice to dress in women''s clothing. Ginger people get ridiculed all the time, but it wasn''t a lifestyle choice to be born with ginger hair - if ginger people can get on in life with all the stick they get, why can''t Gay folk take it? Why should Gay people be an exception? I think Gay people thrive on the attention to be honest.
