ryan1992 0 Posted February 9, 2012 As somebody said to me, I don''t really believe Rangers were that interested in signing Holt. They are in a big trouble financially at the moment, so will not be able to go around splashing £3/4million on players, which is probably at the lower range of how NCFC would value Holt at. It just seems they wanted to calm dowm some of the fans fears that they are going under, and by putting in bids for players, it would reassure the fans that the club isn''t in such a bad situation as they feared. They knew that a bid of £500k would never be accepted by us, so no danger of them having to spend any money!
Feel The Force 0 Posted February 9, 2012 Sounds like a PR exercise all round. We refuse to let our talismanic captain leave = we have ambition. Rangers bid for a player = they are active in the transfer market and perhaps not as broke as people thought. Anyway glad he''s here and scoring goals and has stopped falling over so much. star_manic 0 Posted February 9, 2012 seems totally strange, just sold jelavic for m7£ so we knew they had a bit of brass, but it turned out to be a brass neck.
AJ 1,377 Posted February 9, 2012 I''ve heard it was around the region of £4M, with an initial fee of £3M.Either way, glad that we can finally stand up for ourselves!
Yobocop 1,474 Posted February 9, 2012 finally AJ??!!Where have you been for the last 2 and a half years??> No major sales in the transfer windows for a good 5 years in fact> News of the World? > BBC dispute> Ticket allocationsWe certainly know how to stand up for ourselves nowadays AJ
CDMullins 503 Posted February 9, 2012 I think it may have been a Rangers PR Stunt, to keep their fans happy. After having a bid turned down for Grant Holt, they then agreed a fee for St Johnstone striker Francisco Sandaza, he was in Spain and due to fly to Glasgow for talks, for some reason Rangers then told him not to come and the deal was off. Of course they didnt sign anyone to replace Jelavic and have now picked up Daniel Cousin on a free.
