Transfer Activity

Recommended Posts

Geez, it''s deadly quite on not only our transfer activivities but also most of the league.

Apart from Cahill''s move to Chelsea and some lower league movement it''s been fairly benign. I guess with only 15 days left it might start and get a bit busier.

There has been nothing reported over here as to what we are doing this transfre window. Can any of you local guys provide some sort of idea of information (if any) as to what may materialise over the next 15 days as far as new players arriving.

BW, as it''s quite I could do with another one of your exclusive sources.

I''m not fussed. We''ve been linked with a bunch of attacking players like Rhodes and Bridcutt but why do we need attacking players. We''re just starting to bed in the likes of Bennett and Pilkington alongside Surmnan and Hools, we''re scoring more than anyone else outside the top teams, so why do we need to change that?

All i''d consider is an experienced centre back but i think i''ve changed my mind about even needing that with the emergence of Ayala. I was convinced we were going to get our first clean sheet at WBA. Shame it was Ayala himself who stopped that happening! But i think we''re improving defensively as the back unit becomes more settled.

I agree with this man:

"The thing is, what can you get in January?" he said at a news conference.

"I have said this all the time. The players who are available that we would like, we won''t get. What do you do? Do you take a second rate player? No, of course you don''t.

"I would rather stick with the ones I have got than bring someone in who ends up not having a game anyway because they are not good enough."

Can you guess who it is?

Nobody is going to spend unless they have to or can get the targets they want. Hardly any teams will let players go in January unless they have to, or have a replacement in line. Lots of potential moves get priced out. If you''re good to go, you may as well wait til the end of the season.

I think we have enough in the bag to stay up, and I''d rather Lambert spends his money wisely in the summer with good deals, than splashes out in panic now (AHEM, QPR)

Lets not forget that this window is mostly a merry go round and someone tends to need to make a big signing to get it moving.Bolton may now look to replace Cahill and that may get it going or more likely someone will sign Samba- but that money may not be reinvested with the way the owners there seem to be. Might take a surprise move for someone from Everton or the likes or just Hughes bringing in his own players at QPR to get people juggling their squads. If we are going to do anything very exciting it will only be because someone offers Lambert silly money for Pilks or Tierney as far as I can tell.

I doubt whether we would sell either Pilks or Tierney at this point. They both have been fantastic for us. I know silly money is good but survival this year is most important thing.

Looks like you were right Yellow Shirt, Hughes looks like he is bringing in Henrique from Sao Paulo. Apparently he was the hit of the Under 20 World Cup in Colombia last year.

And whilst we are talking transfers, does 7m for Cahill seem cheap for an England international. I would have thought Bolton could have got more.

At this rate, Samba would cost around the 2m-3m region.

It was sir Alex Ferguson a1 and I have to agree. This is the one window I''m not bothered. To improve the squad I think we need a quality complete central midfielder but that can maybe wait until the summer. We look like we have enough in the tank to get over the line and have a cup run

I agree about the fact there is no urgent need for a new striker or defender but the central midfield is the area we need to strengthen if we are to press on this season and build for next. Despite our ability to weather storms and pull out results from difficult situations, such as West Brom, QPR and (first half) Fulham, we do lose the ball too easily and our defence does constantly seem to be working overtime.

For me it''s all about one or two central midfield players with a little more quality than Johnson, Fox and Crofts - all decent players but just not quite the level we will need for next season in terms of our first XI.

Clearly any such comment is heresy but, for me, that''s the chief weakness to address.

He''ll probably be great for them............next season. Young players from South America don''t exactly have a reputation for settling quickly in the Premier League in mid-season. However I''m sure Kia Joorab.....sorry I mean Mark Hughes...knows what he''s doing.

I''d be interested to know (if you could measure it with any accuracy) how many transfers made in the January window prove to be successful for both parties. You get the impression that teams plan their summer transfer strategy very carefully but then injury or loss of form or a key player wanting out means they need reinforcements. So they enter this window where everybody is overpriced and desperation rather than planning drives many of the transfers. It''s no wonder that teams end up with expensive flops like Carroll and Torres.

I share the same opinion - unless a previously identified transfer target becomes available on decent terms (possible, but unlikely) we should go with the very capable players we already have. Based on league position alone, what we already have is a talent resource better than eleven other teams in the Premiership!

This is the first time in years I''m less-than-fussed about spending anything - and I''m grateful we have a resilient manager who is prudent in his negotiation stance. That said, the Chief Exec is ambitious and if an appropriate deal was there to be done I think he''d ensure the club fully backs the Manager. That''s what makes the next few days exciting!...

You can only really do business with teams abroad in this transfer window unless it''s loan deals (which we have already filled), the other club is desperate to sell due to financial troubles or they are just disrupting the dressing room and if a players contract is running out in the summer.

I''ll say it again....Fergie signed Vidic & Evra in the Jan window...managers say quite a bit to throw the press and other teams off the scent.

At the end of the day, the squad we have is great, why mess it about and add two or three new faces upset the ballance trying to settle in. No I believe we have the players to keep us where we are, And not forgetting Vaughan he''s the striker we are looking for,get him back fit and he will be musterd

I''m not so sure if it''s a case of improving the squad, getting in someone better as such, but more as back up to those we already have. We''ve been ''lucky'' (or for whatever reason) and have not suffered too many injuries so far. What I think Lambert is looking at is similar to that with a relay team. All pretty much equal, so getting in a few more spare players whot can come in and do the same thing as the others - pass the baton so to speak.Maybe the players aren''t the most individually skillful etc and are having to play a more ''energetic'' game. Nothing wrong with that, the results have demonstrated that and when we are on the ball it is positive play rather than the s.ite you get from Stoke. However this is taking it''s toll on the players and a few extra bods to lighten the load will not go amiss. There''s too much money at stake to start slipping down the table to 13th/14th. As it stands we are on £9m prize money and that is a massive boost to our club - we got £25,000 for winning league 1. Problem is we can''t do what we did before with bringing in the likes of Rose, Elliot, Vokes and Paceco to push us over the line. The rules are different and those we sign will not be expecting to stay only until June. They will want a two/three year contract costing a few million on wages alone.Still, these are concerns that we would have called the dreams of madmen were we to have been asked in August 09 what would be causing debate in a couple of years time. Sat in 9th place in the Premier League wondering who we can sign to keep us going and whether we really could turn Chelsea over at Carrow Road in the forthcoming game.If we don''t sign anyone it won''t be for the want of players willing to come here, however I still expect a couple of new faces before Feb 1.
