3 tigers Norwich, Swansea, QPR deadlocked on 8 after 7! Ah what symmetry. Who will burn the brightest?

Recommended Posts

TIGER, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?
In what distant deeps or skies5
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?
And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?10
And when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?
What the hammer? what the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp15
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?
When the stars threw down their spears,
And water''d heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?20
Tiger, tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye

Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Blake also said:

"The tigers of wrath are wiser than the horses of instruction."

Sounds like he doesn''t rate Grant "the horse" Holt as a Premier League player...

Bring me my bow of burning gold!
Bring me my arrows of desire!
Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold!
Bring me my chariot of fire!

I will not cease from mental fight,
Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand,
Till we have built a dynasty
In Norfolk''s green and pleasant land.

With apologies to Billy.

Like how this Blake chap signed off with an OTBC. The song might predate him, of course, but was he the one who wrote all that scrimmage malarkey?

[/quote]The tune to Jerusalem was written by Hubert Parry (1848-1918). Looking at those dates, maybe he wrote OTBC as well?[:D]

"That is uncanny how it also took Mr P just half an hour to write his ditty"

Uncanny, indeed, especially as it reinforces the poem''s theme of symmetry.

However, I think you''ll find that the colons are missing, and so this cannot refer to the time taken. Personally, I cannot believe it didn''t take at least an hour to pen our club ode.

On a personal note, my colon has long been missing, hence my regular contributions of the brown stuff.

PS. This Blake chap, could he be a direct descendant of Darcey Blake, the Cardiff player?

Oh, and along similar lines, has anyone else spotted that WB Yeats poetically foresaw Ipsw1ch fans'' attacks on the Fortress Carrow Road toilets:

"Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world"

Wasn''t that to do with the Great Missing Colon Conspiracy of those days?

Who ate all the Colons?

Who ate all the Colons?

You overweight fellow

You overweight fellow

You ate all the Colons

Have done some digging around, Crabby.

According to The Cat''s Pyjamas: The Penguin Book of Cliches (ISBN 9780141025162), the "Who ate all the pies?" chant was first sung in 1894 by Sheffield United supporters, and directed at the club''s goalkeeper William "Fatty" Foulke, who weighed over 300 lb (140 kg).

Love the "Fatty" nickname, but seriously 300 lb???? Makes Holty a bit of a stick insect.

He should have Foulked off down the gym omce in a while.

No Canary soars too high if he soars with his own wings

And one for you Babes - The man who never alters his opinions is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind

Oh, I wish I''d looked after me teeth,

And spotted the perils beneath,

All the toffees I chewed,

And the sweet sticky food,

Oh, I wish I''d looked after me teeth.Pam Ayres

I am a raven
Freer than a breeze
Beholding to no one
Doing what I please

I am a raven
Watch me fly
Aeries are for
eagles
Not me!
Don’t ask me why

I am a raven
Eating what I please
Sleep anywhere I want
Have no one to appease

I am a raven
You’d better let me by
I’m a bit combative
Might pluck out an eye

I am a raven
Better left alone
Unless inclined to marry
Have ravens of mine own

I am a raven
Feathers
black as coal
Robbery my stock in trade
So stay clear
Or I may steal your soul

That''s more like it, Chopsy, a nice straight forward piece of verse.

Hmm....

I hear old Berty actually dashed this off in less than 5 minutes on a couple of sheets of British No. 3 some years ago whilst trundling into Nowich Thorpe late one evening...............

The question that continues to wrack the minds of many however is just who he had in mind.........
