Just returned from South Africa...

so nice to meet so many Norwich supporters and flags (and opposing football supporters that were full of admiration for our club), honestly no one had a bad thing to say about us, even sc*m and Leeds fans.South Africa is an amazing country, obviously the football (England) was a huge let down, but on the back of the season we had at Carrow Road... who cares?  I did keep upto date with goings on at Carrow Road with texts and internet cafes, Surman is a brilliant sigining i think. But what ever happend to Taiwo? I was never that bothered about him (Cardiff certainly didn''t rate him), but i felt sure he was going to sign? Can anyone enlighten me?

I don''t think it''s ever been officially confirmed, but as he was known to be here and then the deal didn''t happen it seemed a logical conclusion.

Glad you liked SA. I get really annoyed by the stereotypical image that''s presented in our media, ie that it''s riddled with crime and unrest. I''ve travelled widely over there, often with kids in tow, and have never experienced anything other than kindness, politeness and helpfulness. How much of it did you see, and what were your highlights?

This has always been what I have found when talking to fans of other clubs. We are not the laughing stock that many posters on here would have you believe.
I landed at Jo''burg, travelled north to Madikwe game reserve for a day and a half, it was fantastic (saw the BIG 4, missed the leopard unfortunately), lions were amazing.  Travelled back to Rustenburg for game (nightmare situation with regards to administartion), eventually got away at 0130 hours!  Back to Jo''burg to get Premier train overnighter to cape Town (brilliant), Cape Town for 5 days, Cape Point where we saw Whales, Boulders Beach for penguins, we walked up and down Table Mountain, and of course the game, brillaint stadium.  Then the Garden Route, Mossel Bay for a cage dive with Great Whites, then Knysna and Jeffreys Bay, before PE for the match, then a 13 hour drive to the Drakensburg mountains which were amazing, before heading back to Jo''burg.  On my flight to Niarobi i could see Mount Kilimonjaro and on my flight also was Stephen FRY.  All in all a amazing time [:D]

Wow, you really packed it in! Madikwe is amazing ( and very few catch the leopard!). We stayed at Tau Lodge many years ago and are back there in August at Buffalo Ridge. The guides in Madikwe are the best we''ve ever had. Cape Town and the Garden Route are also stunning. We were there in February 2009 when the stadium was just taking shape. It was typically South African in that this wonderful building was emerging on one side of the motorway, yet a few hundred yards on the other side was a shanty town. I don''t think I''ve ever been anywhere where the juxtaposition between wealth and poverty is so obvious that South Africa.
i do feel as if i need a holiday to recover, it is such a vast country,

even the scale of it blew me away, we stayed in Mosetlha Bush Camp, it

was a lot less expensive than the Lodges, but brilliant, good

accommodation and fantastic food, and of course Madikwe shares the

reserve and the guides are all in communication.
the only thing that saddens me is there is obviously still a obvious divide between black/coloureds (they still use the term coloureds in SA) and white people, as mentioned in previous post the divide between rags and riches is there for all to see.  But you do get the impression the country in pulling its weight and moving forward, i would definately reccomend a visit.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Canaries Utd.As you say, many people have many misconceptions about Africa. That''s one of the reasons I love reading Alexander MaCall Smith''s ''Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency'' because he''s so positive about Africa, and Botswana in particular. It''s easy to get bogged down with all the negativity despite the many wonderful things this continent has to offer. The other week I went to an event where a mission link from Sudan was talking and asked us what we thought of when she said Africa. These were just some of the suggestions from the congregation: Tarzan, big skies, World Cup, lions, elephants, amazing worship, snakes, plains, sand, hot, AIDs. She was surprised at how many positives we came out with.Great to hear so many people had positive things to say about Norwich too.

Honestly PL, they are the worst thing ever for an atmosphere, i hope they will be banned from Carrow Road and every football league club in the country.

Have to agree, Sth Africa is an amazing country, pity the football wasn''t half as good, But still never mind, as you said we had a great season last season, and I will be going back to Kenya in October, and don''t miss any home games while I''m away, now thats a fluke result, we get back on the 18th just in time for the palace game on the 19th

Whilst I partly agree with you, there are areas of real danger in SA especially after dark. It is a wonderful country but you must be extremely careful. I have family who have lived in Jo''burg all their lives and hate how restricted they sometime feel in their own country
