AndyJR 0 Posted May 6, 2010 Who would we be?I''m going for Liberal with a tinge of Tory. Liberal as in we''re a caring family club, and a hint of Tory as we attempted a hotel deal which makes us bugger all money. Down with the capitalism!

Houston Canary 0 Posted May 8, 2010 I don''t know how far left the Lib Dems lean but have a sneaking suspicion they are more socialist than Labor, at least in theory. I get this from posts about how they were closing in on the Tories for most popular but when push came to shove, people voted for the 2 big parties rather than the LDs. When I left Canada in 1987, the media was orgasmic about how the New Democratic Party (or socialists) had surpassed the 2 main parties in popularity and as such could win the upcoming election. Of course, when it was time to actually vote for real, like the LDs, they finished a distant 3rd, but unlike you guys now, there was a clear majority win (the PCs, or Progressive Conservatives). Ross Perot had a lead in the US election back in 1992 (or so) but when it was time to vote for real, most people switched to one of the BIG 2. It''s a shame, but these 3rd Parties rarely get taken seriously by the masses. As such, the system continues to get more bloated, the 2 main parties become indistinguishable, and everything remains pretty much the same. We now have the blossoming Tea Party which is very right wing. I think it is awesome. Republicans keep trying to cosy up to it, but too many of them are only looking for votes, not a real policy change. The Tea Party seems hip to this. The media (which is mainly very left wing) blasts them as extremists, but if you look at their stance on issues, it is what the US Constitution is all about - self reliance, minimal government, and the Munroe Doctrine (let the rest of the world do what they want, we will mind our own business). I won''t vote for them if they have no chance to win, but I sure hope they do have a chance to do so. 3rd Party politics is mostly a flare sent up by the disenfranchised who want their real party to get back in line. These days, the Republicans, Democrats, Labour, Torys, Progressive Conservatives and Liberals (Canada''s other leading party that has plenty of Prime Ministers to its credit) seem most concerned about being in office no matter what it takes, not about forcing agendas they are supposed to represent.
