morty 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Owain Tudur Jones returns for Norwich City today in the reserve fixture against Colchester United (2pm) at Colney after his loan spell at Yeovil Town expired on Saturday.Jed Steer will replace the injured Declan Rudd in goal with first team defenders Jens Berthel Askou and Michael Spillane lining up in defence.Few questions answered for me there, mainly :-1. Where is Askou?2. Why was Rudd not on the bench on Saturday?3. Why didn''t Tudor Jones play for Yeovil on Saturday?

Jacko 0 Posted March 2, 2010 By the way I am not part of the anti Lappin brigade. He has just played a lot of football and looks tired.
Heresyourfathersgun 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Lambert is clever enough to know he might need OTJ in the run in - thats why he went out on loan. Yeovil liked him enough to want to keep him but I expect to see him in and around the squad here between now and the end of the season. He''s likely to push Hughes for a place on the bench as he''s had more football.

Canary_on_the Trent 0 Posted March 2, 2010 Looks a fairly strong side, a lot of youngsters but the likes of Spillane, Askou & Tudor-Jones should provide an experienced spine.
Why not stick with 4 4 2 and play OTJ and Korey in the centre? The system requires two central midfield player who can dominate, and Lappin is simply too lightweight to do it, but OTJ may be more effective. I fear that a return to the diamond would require McNamee to be dropped, unless Lambert rested Wes (who has been under par for a while) and let Macca have the free role. Evil Monkey 52 Posted March 2, 2010
I fear that a return to the diamond would require McNamee to be dropped
I would do exactly that, Beau, since we''ve been performing well with that formation and returning Wes to the role where he''s previously been devastating might reinvigorate the side a little. I wonder, though, whether Lambert''s reluctance to do so might have more to do with Rose not being as effective in the wing-back role necessary to give the diamond width? The only possibility I could see is a variation of what Lambert did on Saturday. Where you play Oli and Holt up front with Martin and McNamee playing wide and swapping sides every now and again. While Martin works hard for the team, he is a striker and I dont want to see him playing out wide.

He misses too many tackles, and that''s thrown into sharp relief when you look at who he''s replacing. I think a lot has been said about formations, but it all comes down to execution. 442 isn''t inherently better than the diamond or 433, it''s still 11 v 11. What you have to do is cut your coat according to your cloth, and Wes'' presence pretty much precludes anything other than the diamond, yet McNamee has given us width and good delivery. I don''t see any way that they can be played in the same side against the "better" sides. Somewhat circuitously I suppose I''m saying I agree with you![:D]
chicken 0 Posted March 2, 2010 I thought Tudor-Jones was introduced when he was signed as an attacking minded midfielder. His height gives him that advantage when making one of those midfield bursts into the box to get on the end of something.I would almost be tempted to give Lappin a rest and play Smith in there as the Russell stand in and then have OTJ on the bench incase Hughes has another bad day at the office. I do doubt that somewhat however as I think Hughes is quite handy although a bit rusty due to a lack of gametime.

Some people seem to prefer that width and delivery that McNamee gives us, personally I''ve enjoyed the freedom and creativity Hoolahan offers in the diamond, and I have a suspicion that Lambert does too - hence not going 4-4-2 with McNamee until Rusty''s red...
