Pete Raven 276 Posted July 22, 2004 Surely not Martin Peters?
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Are we counting loan players? If so, would it not be Jan Molby?
charlies dad 0 Posted July 22, 2004 if not.. robert fleck. or how about safri
Canary Jim 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Does Pape Dioup count?!
Arganth 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Martin O''Neill was in the NI world cup squad of 82 wasn''t he?
westoncanary. 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Chris Woods? Was he a squad player in 1986? Not too sure.
Robbo007 0 Posted July 22, 2004 bryan gunn on the scottish bench i believe in italia
sparky 0 Posted July 22, 2004 robert fleck....italia 90??!
BH0201 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Pape Diop definitely doesn''t count. It''s an extremely common name in Senegal. Not one of the Senegal squad with that name was the Pape Diop who played at Norwich.
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 So who wins then?
Pete Raven 276 Posted July 23, 2004 Good question. Unless a team sheet from the World Cup can be found Martin Peters wins!
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Ah, you would say that! Time for some research then......
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 I''m claiming it with Molby, as he actually played.......http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport3/worldcup2002/hi/team_pages/denmark/newsid_2022000/2022077.stm
Pete Raven 276 Posted July 23, 2004 Yeah, he''s probably our last loan player...
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Ok, a mention of distinction for Peters because he was our last England player to go to a World Cup - share the win?
Being Jan Kristiansen... 0 Posted July 23, 2004 I am sure that Fleck Played in the 1990 World Cup for Scotland.I cant remember the last time we signed a current, established International who has already played at the highest level though. Have we ever?
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Yep, on further investigation, it appears to be Robert Fleck........played against Sweden in Italia 90 and came on as a sub against Brazil........Sorry Pete, but it looks like neither of us won!

Because aren''t Mulryne and McVeigh established international players who played in the (albeit qualifiers for) the last World Cup? The difference is just that NI is a very lowly nation in the football rankings?

Pete Raven 276 Posted July 23, 2004 Well researched Templeton. Fleck is our winner. Still think Helveg is our only ever Champions League winner though...
Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Yep, not gonna disagree with that Pete!
Being Jan Kristiansen... 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Ama, when I said top level I meant the World Cup finals. This put Helveg out there on his own.The only other possible Champ League player would be Mullers but I dont think he was at Man U long enough to get a chance. Temp the Revelator 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Good try, but he never actually played - he was in the squad at USA 94 though
mat gore 0 Posted July 23, 2004 Well, technically we had Jose Maria Bakero (apologies if this is slightly incorrect!)didn''t he captain Spain and Barcelona for years and win several European cups.He only played for the reserves and a couple of friendlies though before we decidedwe didn''t want him !! He was about 37 though......
