SuperWesIrishWizard 0 Posted November 18, 2008 One that joined in the summer, and asked him what was going on. Im quite a blunt person, so just came out with it.I must point out that I have got to know this players a friend of the family, basically he drinks in my families local and they took to showing him round the area, he has been round to my auntie and uncles with his girlfriend a few times for meals. The crack is, none of the players have confidence, for a number of reasons. One of them is the regime, another is the fans frustrations (which this particular player understands). He said that when joining the club he was proud to sign for a club of our size and knows the fans, he is said to be part of what the club has become. He said that most of the players are petrified of questioning Roeder, who is determined to achieve results but goes about it the wrong way, this player blames the pressure in turn being put on Roeder. The board still expect a top half finish but Roeder has no money to play with at all, a few hundred grand in January. He said that a couple of the players have bad attitudes but the majority are professional and want to achieve, care a lot about their personal pride and desperate for the backing of the fans. Most of them are afraid to go out in the city centre for fear of abuse. Only one of the loan players doesnt care and frankly the fellow players would rather have his more than suitable replacement in the team every week instead of on the bench (hint: the replacement is very quick). The other is a player that is sitting out his contract, and would be given opportunities if he put any kind of effort into training. This player had several offers but chose Norwich as Neil Doncaster and another member of staff (former player) sold the club as one with ambition and money to spend, he feels betrayed by false hope and genuinely had the impression that the club had the financial backing to create one of the strongest squads in the league. He believes that the club needs more togetherness and a bigger squad, there are players every week that shouldnt be playing because of various injuries, and that one of those players refuses to put his career in jeopardy by playing with strains (quite rightly). Another player, on a one year contract (no prizes for guessing) will seek a bosman in January as, although he also feels for the fans, feels equally betrayed as he also had numerous offers of games in pre-season friendlies and could have gone back home. One of the players most hit by a lack of confidence is Jamie Cureton who, when asking for a loan, was desperate to go anywhere he could to score a few goals - even league two - and just wants to play football. If he cant play football then he wants to retire. This player said that he hadnt noticed the lack of confidenc (because he is new) but other players who were here last season have told him that Jamie is at a low ebb. All of the players believe that Leroy Lita is quality, by far the best striker at the club (obvious). There is no chance of us keeping him any longer. This player wants to leave the club at the next realistic opportunity (end of season) unless the regime changes, morale is very low and professionalism is compromised by money. Lastly, I asked him about the youth team. This player said that the current crop of youth players at the club has several players that are already better than some of the first team squad, but that they also have low confidence and do not feel as if they will be given a chance by Roeder. The sale of Joe Lewis and the loaning out of Mickey Spillane only go to show that Roeder does not have faith in the youth team. Which puts Roeders big speech about developing youth completely out of the window. And thats all I can remember......

lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted November 18, 2008 i dont know whether to believe you or not! you dont name any players but then you make them blatenly obvious who they are!so you reckon you spoke to hoolahan, well if this was true i can generally believe that he is very unhappy and wants out, which is a shame because this guy in the right team is so talented
AndyJR 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Not sure who it might be: ''I spoke with a senior player'' yesterday and ''This player said that he hadnt noticed the lack of confidenc (because he is new''. A new senior player.

Im not naming the player, i made some of the other players obvious, but these players joined:David Bell, Sammy Clingan, Dejan Stefanovic, Wes Hoolohan. So make of it as you will, but I could be talking about any of those players. Like I said, I wont be telling you which one.

Could have been Stewart Nelson as well, but well.... that obviously erradicates him already.
InLambertWeTrust! 0 Posted November 18, 2008 I think its either D. Bell or Wes Hoolahan. Another poster has already told us about meeting D. Bell''s girl friend and Wes Hoolahan is short of confidence..... If it is D. Bell, can you get me an autograph?

John 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Cheers SuperWes.Like macdougall''s perm said, it''s interesting, yet bleak. This is all just horrible really, there''s got to be a change of sorts at the club, otherwise i doubt we''re going to be achieving the standards Roeder hopes to reach by the end of his 3 year plan (rather in the other direction).Wes, could you ask this player if he thinks it would be for good or worse if the fans were to protest for a new change in regime?Of course if anyone were to replace Roeder they would be short of a transfer budget, but bring in the right character, and considering the quality available to him it would most likely prevail, if the board were to make the right pick. Mr Brownstone 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Anyway, where are my manners?! Thanks for the info. Very interesting, but unfortunately as everyone else has pointed out, it does not make very nice reading.....

He was incredibly polite and didnt beat around the bush, just said it how it was.I regret not asking about Huckerby, I also regret not asking whether or not we were interested in Iverson, and also whether he knew anything about James Hollman etc..... I would like to have gathered his opinions on Chris Martin, although I know he wouldnt have trained with him for too long.Could go on forever, just grateful that I could gain some sort of insight i guess. I probably talked to him for about 20 minutes in total, but at the end of the day he probably has to talk about this stuff day in, day out..... he then preceeded to talk to my cousin about where he went on holiday last year and how he had somebody in decorating his house, which is fair enough really...... I was hoping for some positive news, but there wasnt any. Except the bit that most of the players, including all but one of the loanees, do care about performances..... which is nice to know when your near the bottom of the table! lincoln canary (& Golden Coppel) 0 Posted November 18, 2008 if you are not talking bs can you please tell wes not to get to downhearted because his time will come, and if results continue he will be here for longer then roeder anyway. tell him i have every confidence in him to deliver and that we are desperate for him to be the new hero!!!!! hoolahan is the last player i would want to leave

That leaves 4. We dont have 4 players named Wes Hoolohan. Thats a 25% chance of the player being Wes Hoolohan, now I suggest that you dont get into gambling if you are prepared to speculate so rashly on odds like that. Secondly, I am not going to be seeing player x again in the near future, I do not have his email address, his telephone number. I do know where he lives, but im not going to be sending him a letter. WeAreYellows49 0 Posted November 18, 2008 I wouldn''t blame any one of our players for walking away if GR is how you describe, and spirits are that low at Colney.

Daphne 0 Posted November 18, 2008 Yes it''s beak SWIW, but also not without hope. I would expect any player in a squad that is consistently under-performing to feel pretty low. From what you say there are only a couple of players whose attitude is out of line - it could be worse, and in PG''s time was most likely a lot worse. Thanks for the info - don''t care who you spoke to. [/quote]Cheers anyway. At least we have some sort of insight into the atmosphere at Colney, as bleak as it may be.Whoever you spoke to, it''s a shame they want to leave, be it Clingan, Hoolahan, Bell or Stefanovic, cos their all good, then again you can''t blame them if they do want to. Can''t help but feel that it seems bloody typical for Neil Doncaster to deceive players in order to bring them into the club. The nasty thing, after all this, is that Roeder eventually leaves, the players also eventually leave, and the board leaves, and when their all gone, it''s more likely than not, taking into account what seems to be our current course of progression, we''ll be the fans, sticking by a club rotting in the lower divisions. There''s no hiding away from it, this is a nightmare for any ardent Canary fan, and that if we are to be saved, be it by owner, manager, or player, they will be the night in shining armour that saved us from oblivion. We can only hope they arrive before it''s too late.
